There are at least 3 versions of this excellent book, the 75, the updated 78 and then the expanded 81. Only the 75 contains the extras and bootlegs information because they were dropped, possibly for legal reasons, for the later reprints. The 1981 version apparently contains a correction made by none other than John Lennon himself. Some fawning fans will no doubt find the straight talking opinions here somewhat difficult to digest, nevertheless this remains one of the most clear-sighted accounts of their career. Even John Lennon agreed.
The first edition of the UK Yellow Submarine album has the words ‘nothing is real’ on the cover as well as two red lines across the back cover later changed to black.
The book was published by New English Library in London. Yours is a US edition. It was written by two British journalists. Roy Carr is very famous here in the UK. He died about 5 years ago.
For Pinoys out there.. You might recognize some of the photos here was used for the Jingle Beatles Songbook. Even to the way the photos were outlined. The best example is the photo at the right around 5.09.
Very nice! Just a small correction: the 2014 US albums set does use the unique American mixes. The difference is, for those songs in which the mixes were the same, they used the remastered tracks, since the sound is better (Capitol got 2nd generation tapes for their albums). Also, they replaced fake stereo and mono with real stereo and mono, but that's common practice in re-releases (even the Beatles UK catalog).
Everything I've said in these videos is off the top of my head so thanks for spotting the gaffe! I was planning on buying The US Albums box set but I kept reading comments about how it wasn't as "authentic"-sounding as The Capitol Albums sets, so I ultimately decided not to get it.
@@tapsilogic Well, the Capitol albums sets are more "authentic" to the original albums, because they used the Capitol tapes, But the US albums is not "the UK mixes in the American order", as some people have spread around.
Got a question; I swear I saw in a 70s Beatles book that they advertised for outside songs for the Help soundtrack album. The book even showed the anonymous advert. I thought it was in the Beatles Forever! book . Do you recall seeing this?
Yeah, I gathered as much from skimming the text. I got it for the album covers though, so I don't know if I'll ever devote time to reading it. But it does remind me of a paperback I've read years ago - The Lives of John Lennon. It wasn't exactly flattering of John.
One of my first and greatest Beatles book. Purchased my copy in 1976 and still love it.
I purchased this wonderful book when I was 15 in 1977. It’s outstanding. Listening and collecting Beatles music and film remains a lifelong passion.
Wow , I received this awesome book in '77 , I was 10 , I still have it , still love it . A life long passion of collecting my self

There are no cartoons on the back cover of the UK version of Yellow Submarine. Only the U.S. version has them plus entirely different sleeve notes.
