Really cool idea! We found they would turn our PVC multi-mineral feeders. We used metal strapping exactly like you. We solved the problem by simply running a short screw through a hole in the strapping right into the PVC.

The nursing kids will get what they need in their dam's milk, they're just curious about this new thing in their environment.

@@SunfireWoods Yeah. I think she mentioned building something for the kids to stand on.

Thanks for the info, Sarah! I'd be interested in your opinion on our situation. We give free choice Purina loose goat mineral and baking soda (separate containers) for our 3 wethers. Between the three of them, they can go through 1-2 cups of loose minerals within a 24 to 48 hour period. The amount does fluctuate, but it seems to me that they're consuming a lot of loose mineral, so I wonder if there's a deficiency or overage in our well water causing the consumption.
They're on a basic diet of free choice orchard grass hay, with a nightly treat of Timothy grass pellets and BOSS, however right now they're on an 80% Orchard/20% Alfalfa mix because the straight Orchard hasn't been available. Any amount of alfalfa makes me uncomfortable because of the potential for UC, but it's all we have for them till the first cuttings start in June.
I'm wondering if we should get our well water tested for mineral excesses and deficiencies. Can you share where you got your water testing done, and how much it cost you? Thanks!!

I should add that they are ND wethers; a 4 year old, a 16 month old, and a yearling. All are small in size.

That does seem like a lot of minerals. Be careful with the Boss as it's high in phosphorus. Just make sure to keep their calcium to phosphorus ratio 2:1
I don't typically like Purina minerals. I would look for a better quality like sweetlix or mana pro if you didn't want to try the buffet style.
I would definitely check your water as well. You can go through a local water company to see about testing

@@fishorpriceranch6172 thank you so much! That's great advice; I will discontinue the BOSS and look into getting the Sweetlix or Manna Pro minerals. Did you get your water tested at the store in Vernon? Should I request a specific panel? Sorry for all the questions! You've opened a can of worms, lol!

Lol I know I've opened a can of worms for sure😅 with so many having problems, I'm glad I did.
Yes I did have the Standford store test it originally but was only for contaminants. Still working on getting a full panel done
