  • We are at quarters of District of Columbia Fire Department Engine 11, Truck 6, Battalion 4, and Ambulance 11 at 3420 14th Street NW, where we see the Engine and Chief as they get toned out to a Box for a structure fire at the Brookland Ridge Apartments at 300 Taylor Street NE at Harewood Road NE. Engine 11 was 5th due. Engine 14, Engine 17, Engine 12, and Engine 26 were 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th due engines respectively. Truck 15 and Truck 9 were 1st and 2nd due truck respectively. Battalion 1 and Battalion 4 were 1st due and 2nd due Chief respectively. Rescue 3 responded, as did Ambulance 12 and Medic 17. As it turned out, food was left on the stove in an unattended apartment. Luckily there were no extensions to the kitchen or the rest of the structure. All units returned to quarters, with Engine 14 and Truck 15 remaining for investigation and ventilation. Engine 11 is a 2018 Seagrave Capitol. Battalion 4 is a 2020 GMC 2500 HD. Enjoy the sounds of the tones, the rapid response from the house, as well as the view of the rigs and the sirens. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on December 11th, 2022.

    The DCFD is one of only a handful of departments in America that have an Aide to drive the Battalion Chief. Much safer practice than sending someone alone to drive, activate warning devices, look at pre-plan for the building, and communicate with 8 companies responding on the Box Alarm among other factors.

      I always heard it was one of the best gigs in the DCFD. Being the aide,you drove the buggy and got be the eyes and ears of your chief on the fire ground. I knew a Battalion Chief's Aide way back when.

      It was. D.C. gets a lot of Structure Fires. Mostly Smoke Conditions and Medical Calls.

    When I trained in Detroit our House Battalion Chief 5 had a Firefighter assignment for him. What they do now I have no clue.

    Are the tones similar to FDNY tones? Also, nice video!!

      Thanks. Yes, I think the tones are similar, since the department uses the Purvis System, just as NY does.

    I've wanted to visit that firehouse so I have a couple of questions so How did you get into the firehouse? Where is the best place to park your car? And is that area safe because there are some areas in DC that are unsafe is that area still safe to do fire buffing ? Is that station also busy

      I knocked on the door, introduced myself, and asked if I could take photos of the rigs. I parked about a block or two away on a side street, but there are plenty of meyer spaces on the street in front of and around the firehouse. It's a safe area. Fairly busy house.

      There are some good side streets around Truck 13/Engine 10 as well. The area is a bit rundown, but I didn't feel unsafe there.

      @@FL92002 ok so is In your opinion is engine 11 much safer than engine 10

    • @FL92002
      @FL92002  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The area around Engine 11 isn't any more safer or dangerous than the area around Engine 10.
