Uncle Cy was laughing during the whole video... like a kid who just received his Christmas wish... That convinced me... I just ordered a G388 with a 25" bar for myself....
Hi Cy,just ordered one of them. Years ago I owned and ran a few of the 038 Stihls. I really loved those saws. Hopefully these saws don't let us down. I bought a G660 and am really pleased. You don't have to break them in on 25 to 1 mix. The G660 recommended 50to 1 not 25 to 1. 25to 1 just clogs them up. Don't waste your time. As long as it is properly adjusted it's just fine to break them in with 50 to1. Have broke in many saws with 50 to 1 and never had any problems. Just don't put them directly on a mill and run it wide open continuously for the first few tanks. Take care!!
Uncle Cy, you're getting good at this. Looks like they solved a number of the Chinese saw problems. Have the 106 cc Chinese saw BUT I'm not sure I can manage it to mill logs. Not a lot of milling , but I have a big 30 inch walnut sitting in the parking area and no one willing to mill it for me in my area. Son-of a- Have a 28 inch bar on my 450 rancher which is lower in cc's and worked on smaller logs. Will watch next video. Looks like we're gonna have to call you "Chaisaw Man!" LOL! 5 inches of snow and cold . Log will have to wait.
I have a few saws of my own, five in total. Not a very big hoard but it's getting there. Three of them work, one needs a total rebuild and the last one is just a small parts saw. I wouldn't mind adding one of these to the collection, especially the 070 clone. Ya, it's not a true Stihl, but the old Stihl's go for crazy money if you find the right one. So these clones are a better choice. I've also been looking for the older Poulan's back from when they were an actual competitor to McCulloch. So far I only have one of those. :)
I've had good luck with their bars and chains holds a decent edge and cuts good. The chains do have some stretch to them thou and the bars are a tad bit heavy but seem to be holding up well. I have them in sizes 12" to 36" and .325 to .404 pitch
I might have missed you doing it but you'll want to pick up the end of the bar when taking slack out of the chain and holding up again when you tighten the nuts.
No! we all don't want Chainsaws for Christmas- I'm hoping for a Winning Lotto Ticket instead! Hahaha! : ) I've given over 20 Chainsaws away in the last 30 years and made at least 18 or 19 people happy? I'm sure 1 or 2 were PO'd they didn't get a bigger or bettersaw then what I sent them - Oh! Well that's Life -We can't always get what we want! : ) I Do still love watching you young Whippersnappers trying out your New & rebuilt Saws!
Y'all got your G660 in other packaging but I just got a box just like that that shows G660 on the outside. I'm thinking the box is small but I sure hope it's my G660 I ordered. Guess I better open the box before I head out to work.
This or the G372XP? Which is the better choice? Is one of them better out of the box? We need a large saw to fell some bigger trees, but can't justify spending big money as it will rarely be used.
If they are anything like the old 38 super av or the slightly slower, much louder 38 magnums don't hesitate. I ran one for years as a kid, and those saws are close to probably 25 years old now and have never been apart and still run good.
@@DIYwithUncleCy thanks for the reply . i am considering replacing my well used Ms 361 . Are you finding the weights are heavier on the holzfforma compared to stihl. I have a Dolmar ps-7900 and a Stihl ms 361 and a ms 260 pro and use the ms -361 the most because it is decent power and the weight does not ware me out as fast as the Dolmar.
My understanding is that the weight on the G366 is the same as the MS360. I don't know if there is much difference between the 360 and 361 weight wise. These clones so far match Stihls specs pretty darn close, the G388 is definitly a heavier saw but it was also an older model so it is kind of expected. I think my next one is going to be the G372XP. Used many Husqvarnas over the years never owned one (or a clone of one). My friends that own then have all switched to Stihl though.
Took about 2 weeks. but they were both available then. My understanding is that the G111 is out of stock. I know the G660 was but they keep building more.
Oh that sucks. I sure hope they release it soon would love to see what you think of it. I am beginning to think the G444 they are sending me has been snagged that way.

Hi Cy, question on one of your videos on the g388 you mentioned you were running 40 to 1 mix, is that Stihl? and if so is it the red or green?

I cannot speak to that as I have never used the G372XP. I can tell you the G388 has become one of my favorite saws in the collection.

How is this saw still ?
Do you buy all these saws or do they send them to you for free?
How well have the bars and chains held up?
Wow that's cool
Great video! any change you will get the G366 i think this is the clone of the MS361?
Oh I'd like to get one but have other irons in the fire at the moment. I think eventually I'd like the whole set that they make LOL

That's what i was wanting to know . Thanks for the information@@DIYwithUncleCy
Do you have to tighten the chain first before tightening the cover down all the way does it matter or no
Yes the cover has to be slightly loose in order for the bar to move when tightening the chain.
@@DIYwithUncleCy good to know thanks
I cannot get mine to pull. Any advice?
Hello love the channel !! Is that a rocket stove you are heating your shop with ? Do you have a build video on that if so ?
Yes there is a whole playlist with 10 videos all about the RMH.
How long did it take to get it I ordered a 660 and was wondering?
Took about 2 weeks. but they were both available then. My understanding is that the G111 is out of stock. I know the G660 was but they keep building more.
Do sthil chains fit their bars?
Yes
As long as the chain is the same gauge,,pitch and of course size or amount of drive links of the bar the name brand don't matter....
Cy, do you know if anyone has found a way to retrofit a decompression valve to the G388 for easier starting?
Not that I am aware of.
@@DIYwithUncleCy Thank you for the quick reply. I hope you and your family are doing well in this strange time.
Pushing the chain brake forward released the compression.
hmmm. ordered mine black friday still stuck in customs...they must like you!! reviews coming if i ever get it
