Santa not part of Christian faith. it was European fairytale...
It's paganism and it evolved like all religions do. Nothing stays constant. I don't associate Christmas with Jesus or Christianity to me it just means holiday or creating a festive atmosphere.
Actually the story goes back to a christian bishop named Nicholas of Myra who started the tradition of giving gifts to the poor on Christmas during the late third century. So Saint Nicholas became Santa Claus. The red coat, the reindeers and all the other nonsense were added later, however.
Santa clause character is inspired by the holy people in christian history who love sharing. The name is Saint Nicholas.
