Why is watching Lionfish hunting so relaxing? Maybe I am just marveled by the shear number of lionfish and then relieved at how easily a crowd can be dispatched?
Just moved to Puerto Rico and after a year of living here our little snorkeling reef now has lionfish. After watching several removal videos, I like your setup the most. (side handle on your containment bucket! Perfect distance on the spear length) . Can you share with the class what equipment you use? A video with your gear would be greatly appreciated.
When the lionfish are shoved in the buckets -- I keep thinking they are poking each other with their spines. Just because they produce the venom doesn't necessarily mean they are immune to the venom.
Cool long video, only thing I wish you would have done was slow down a minute or two and pan the camera around slowly so to show the variety of other species swimming around you, it's interesting to see the different kind of fish. I'm not a diver but every once and a while I'll catch something I don't know what it is (and I've been salt water fishing my whole life, at least 50 years), for every one I catch there must be a hundred different ones I don't know about.
the bucket is a 7 gallon food grade bucket that has a screw on lid which was too stiff so i cut out the top and replaced it with the top of a home depot bucket lid which was more flexible.
If I could sell lionfish directly to restaurants... I would, but here in FL you are prohibited from doing so. You can only sell to a distributor who then sells to the restaurants. We eat the ones over 10".
If you get a 50$ saltwater products license and bring them to his restaurant, he'll buy them straight from you. no distributor needed. www.grillsseafood.com/lionfish-invasion/
That's great to remove 300 plus lionfish. But to think that one female can lay 10,000 eggs that float on the current until they settle on the reef to hatch. It's an up hill battle. But, I'm glad to see divers helping out before they destroy the reef eco. Looks like you guys had a great day and that's what counts. Friend diving and pure fun doing it. Not to say that the meal was worth the whole trip. Great job and very good video.
hey Patrick.Looks like i snagged one or two from u from under that ledge.Nice video.Thats a great area for lionfish and for lobster.Really sharky tho.Im definitely going back during lobster season.I seen u pointing the cobs out but i really wanted to put up a few more numbers for the tourney.I like the bucket u made for the lionfish.
Cheers! But it may get more efficient if you use a spear without barbs or rubber bands and transfix them quickly in line, only descarting them off the spear after catching six or more using a long knife to get sure they are died and don't loose time in store all of it , becsuse they are trash.
People have been killing invasive species ( except for horses ) for years yet the numbers and areas you can find lion fish, snake head fish, bighead carp, silver carp, common carp, boas, wild pigs and numerous others just keeps growing. The world is changing we all see it but we seem to be having a hard time accepting it.
That bucket is going to get filled up fast. Then you'll have to surface and dump and go back down. Get a larger fish keeper. Something akin to a small duffle bag.
Oh my goodness how are you guys not afraid of getting stung by a lion fish or afraid of the sharks swimming in the area? I get nervous just watching! Lol
DebbieeeCo You are most likely to be born with a conjoined twin then get attacked by a shark. Sharks are just interested in what you are doing but when they see a vulnerable fish at the tip of your spear they will go for it. Lion fish just like any other fish, if they see you then they'll swim away but lion fish are more cocky due to not having any natural predators
it is gonna take every diver working hard to control these rascals - here is my contribution to the effort in Cayman - th-cam.com/video/YLAeeYwfcl4/w-d-xo.html - feeding snapper and th-cam.com/video/6_BdtOFi_mg/w-d-xo.html - Feeding Moray
it doesn't matter what fish it is, it's wrong to shoot young offspring in front of its mother. if the juvenile is on its own, that's fair. but when its still with its mother ... that is stupid.
@@Chakeeper f****** Christ you snowflakes are stupid! Fish don't care for their young for more than a day or two then they're set off to do their own thing! It's not like mama shark goes out and gathers up food and brings it back to her babies so it makes no difference cuz that's shark is very likely not is Mother!
Chakeeper & dean Nelson, that wasn’t a shark pup. That was a Cobia, a great tasting sport fish. That fish provided a good number of meals. Cobia are sometimes mistaken for small sharks by people not familiar with the differences.

Right? I've been watching these videos for an hour now. It's like watching high quality cleaning
KrazyKoto ASMR
they totally are! i love watching these too... and i just got my open water cert in hawaii last month, definitely set this as a goal for nest year!
No sharks were harmed during the production of this video...
😂😂😂😂
From 11:00 , most satisfying thing to watch!!
Good job guys keep up the good work. This will give the reef baby's a chance to grow and bring the reef back to life for all to enjoy.
Very nice! You should teach your dive buddy to keep his feet/knees off the fragile reef...
Cut it out
I live in New Zealand and I am a keen diver/fisherman. So glad we don't have loin fish here. But wish I could come there and help slay them.
This is great. Florida needs more of this.
Resting your bucket and other equipment on the reef can do damage to it. Also touching the reef or leaning on it.
11:00 this is awful to see...thank you for clearing them up!

Sherry Trujillo Boyer i am from PUERTO RICO too
Go to www.zkstore.com/ there you can buy lion fish removal gear.
For $11, you can make your own with Home Depot supplies
You're a hero to the reef!! :)
Great job guys and thanks.
Sharks (Perception Check) "I know there is food here, and I know you are stabbing stuff!"
Bucket (Deception Check) "Hi, I'm a bucket!"

Great job...! Question: how did you made the top lid of the bucket?, how many feet where you at?, thanks, keep up the good job

awesome. we need more!
Seem like quite a bit of coral damages. Or many just the sounds
I bet the other fish are so happy and thankful afterwards!! The second five was like a jackpot
i live in Jax and didn't know we were so inundated with these guys... I need to get back into diving its been years since last dive
Do you know of any restaurants that sell lionfish?
@@TruckTaxiMoveIt yes sir :) North Beach Fish Camp had em - They Cook em whole :D
Does anyone know where I can get lionfish to eat in Jacksonville Florida?
Why are you harpooning sharks lol
It wasn't a shark
Cobia look similar
Bro... try to not touch the corals next time, you damaged them and this might be even worse than leaving out one lionfish...
Great videos! Just one question; Are the fish being sold to local restaurants or something like that?

keep it up take all out
Where do I get that bucket?
Why attack the shark ???
What depth were you at during the 2 dives?
how big was the cobia @15:55 ? 60lbs?
It like picking up trash. And looks dangerous too...Good job!
how much do you get per fish?
Great job guys
So awesome. I want to do that so bad
Great work.
What depth are you finding these lionfish? Doesn't look to bee too deep .
We typically find them off NE FL in 90+ feet. These dives were 90 - 105.
why'd he shit the fish?
That is really good your killing all of them keep it up
So transfixed on watching i got dizzy.
Aren't you scared of the sharks? Damn if it was me I'd shit bricks
Lucky it's not you
Or me.
Pickin up the trash

Crap that's a lot of lions.. On the east coast the numbers are lower but the fish are usually pretty big. Great job!!
Like pissing in the ocean to raise the tide??
The dudes were just chilling there
I am going to start the “Save Our Lionfish” SOL campaign!
Change my donation: negative million dollars
Yay!, only 7,698,369 to go.
Good on killing lion fish but poor techniques by the divers are rough in the coral
Great Job. keep it up
Well done guys!
Why do you not feed the Lion Fish to the Sharks and train Sharks to take the Lion Fish as prey?

So you figure you are winning?
Omg ! We're infested. Nice cobia. Thank you , you showed them who's boss.
How deep are these dives?
100'
Why the shark?!?
it’s a big fish that taste good apparently
So many lionfish. Government must mandate all american eat lionfish at least once a week!!
job well done!
Nice reaction on that Cobia
did anyone else get motion sick when they speed this thing up?
It’s extermination, those things are EVERYWHERE.
Holy sheep shit that's a lot of fish!!!
16:20 why shoot the shark?
That's not a shark.
Cobia, great tasting fish.
Cobiaaaaa
All I can say is. Wow! Keep slaughtering them!

not a shark
uhm ok, what was it then?
Cobia
Its a cobia jesus christ
And what about all the damage to this reef?
Lol looks like you're just walking your pet fish on a leash like it's no big deal!
Nooooo sharks noooooo!!!!!-🙈🙈🙈🙈
...hmmm good job but why shoot the shark
יואב שיינמן wasnt a shark
my bad ,you are right
Why not just pop the little ones and leave them for the lobsters? Give the biomass back to the reef.
I was thinking the same but maybe it's because the remains might not be eaten and then algae might become an issue.
Why did you kill those sharks?
thehumuyopi76 they werent sharks
what is it?
Cobia
thehumuyopi76
So why did you kill them anyway?
@@mazenabiazar9844 for food?
Great job. Thank you so much we need to control them
Atravieso123 but not like them, the coral damage might be even worse
Why are you spearing the sharks?
4:35 I thought for sure you were dead.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I wonder why you collect the little ones and not just kill them
Decaying fish will leave ammonia in the waters and also attract sharks
They even sell and eat the small ones

Its not a shark dumbfuck it was a cobia know what your talking about before you talk shit
Pistolero.....
why don't you kill the lion fish and let the sharks eat them. just my thoughts
they will think a diver around means food.. wich can get annoying and dangerous
They need to start hunting them themselves and not just rely on us.
Andrew Villanueva because why would they throw away cash?
