Great video ! I have a question. As a lead I tend to lean forward when I dance. I’m 6”2 so most follow are shorter than me. So I feel like I have to bend over when I dance . It’s giving me back pain. How can I fix that ? By the Way I’m a big fan of you Guys. I even bought the dance dojo salsa program. It’s awesome
Thanks for the love emmanuel! I would firstly realize that there's a difference between wanting to bend over and needing to bend over. Always keep good posture. if you can't lift your partner's hand over your head, don't - just put it on your shoulder or hip and let it trace around your body if you want to do a turn (See module "creating your own combos" > tracing). That's how you can adapt tp dancing with shorter follows but dont compromise yourself. I also recommend to every human on earth to lift weights to maintain a strong body - it changes everything. Checkout @rangeofstrength on insta and consider his basics course. hope this helps -robin
@@thedancedojo thanks robin. That was a very quick reply. I think I just do it automatically bending over. So I’m guessing I just really have bad posture. I see you have a video for posture for leads. I checked it out. I will start to keep aware of where me chest is. Thanks again ! I love you guys
This seems difficult to pull off and even harder to self correct without the tactile feedback and verbal report a lead can provide. How can we be sure, when alone, that we are practicing correct posture given the fluidity of dance?
Hry Magnate, just reminding yourself with the cue "posture" verbally or in your mind while you dance will remind you to stand taller. it's not about perfection all the time.but of building awareness and habits. until you build awareness of yourself and how good posture feels you won"t be sure. but that's what you're working towards, understanding a poimt of reference and developing the ability to self correct. -robin
Hello Patrick and Scarlet, i learn salsa by myself from videos and i have a question about upper body. It wouldnt be better to push it forward? Feels more jazzy that way.)
So my question is where to look. I'm not a tall guy but even then I find I'm looking at a trajectory downwards. If you are maintaining a posture, doesn't this cause you to look over your partners shoulder, not something you or the partner wants.
I wouldn't over think it, you can glance at your partner, smile, as you do a cross body lead you just look in the direction you're moving, then if you give your partner a turn you'll watch them turn. just don't stare directly.i to your partners eyes for minites haha. thats all. and if you're tall you can look down at your partner's face, just like you would if you were to meet someone for the first time who is shorter than you
Seems like good tips to be more visually attractive on a dance floor. But again classical ballroom dancer mistake of connecting looks and presentation to the technique and connection. The girl does not create a frame with her spine. She creates a frame by moving her hands together with the rest of her body. In different dances, the design of the spine will be completely different depending on the visual look we want to create. But if the girl wants to create a frame she'll be able to do it with any position of her spine. It's all comes down to wether she wants to keep her hands connected to the rest of her body or not. So she can not be compared to the table in this case, because if she doesn't want her hands to move separately from her body she has to constantly control them. It won't happen by itself.
you make great points! and yes salsa is definitely less about having a rigid spine/frame like ballroom. we need to remain loose and relaxed but standing tall (not hunching over) definitely helps allow shoulders/arms to relax and for us to be responsive when dancing quickly.
“She doesn’t have to use her eyes, doesn’t have to think, just like this table” XD
Hahahahhahaha
very much needed tip. Thanks a lot guys!
Thanks for this tip. Very helpful not only in dancing, but also your well-being overall.
Glad it was helpful!

@@coffyemmanuel no sweat, we all do it! I had terrible posture at first. that's why filming yourself helps so much. Keep up the practice! -robin
Thank you, i took some time on youtube and ive got it. The position of our body depends on what move we supose to do.
