Been with the mother of my children for 28 years, but it wasn't always good. In fact, it's been mostly terrible for the last 17 years. I am a lifelong songwriter & quite prolific with 2000+ songs written, rehearsed & performed. My heartbreak is only a component for some of these, but passionate, even cynical at times, political, social, humourous, and pointed. And humble. Heartfelt. I let God & the Holy Spirit speak for me. The lyric in question is of a young person's experience with "love" and obviously not seasoned. The definition of the word originally was "charity", long before Hallmark got a hold of it & turned it into a feeling & not the action word it actually is. Raising two kids on love/charity alone, and with very little help, if any at all, informs my understanding of love. But, yes, I get my heart broken every single day, all day long. It's life lived to the fullest without fear of being hurt that does it. I GET the lyric. But it's oppressively driving home a point that few with lifelong wisdom find deep. It may be soothing for the young listener who needs a quick fix bandaid. I don't expect pop artists to force their clientele to think or feel too deeply. This would prove counter-productive to their record company & producer's goals. I expect you to buy it. It's a good product. But art & depth are in other "genres", for lack of better term. Perhaps the term is "demographic".
