    Just stumbled on your channel. I like the production and your presentation. Contemplating the power tour for next year so will have to hear how you made out on your trip. There's nothing like firing up a freshened up engine!

    I love all these videos on old car resurections, I just don't know shit about old cars since where I live there doesn't seem to be very many old cars or anyone fixing them up often. I wish I had the room at my house to get one and work on it, just something about that thought makes me excited to do so.

    thanks for the bit on the 351w and 302ho firing order stuff, I've been doing a revival of my own of a 79 f100 with a 302 (pictured in my pfp) that's been sitting for 25 years and have been working on it for about a year now with little success, realize I've been using that 351w and 302ho diagram, not down there to try it right now, and will update if it turns out it does or doesn't work, but I've replaced just about the entire ignition system trying to get it to run.

    Firing order on a 302 depends on which camshaft. Both firing orders were used.

    The firing order depends on the cam. If you changed the cam you need to check the order - is it the 289/302 order or the newer and different 351 firing order. Just saying. Hope this helps others. And, I like your videos as they are entertaining and very informative too. Keep it up.

    15426378 is the standard Firing order for Ford's you will find that Firing order on most ford v8 motors the HO Firing order is the same as a 351w

    If you was going to all that work and spend that much time to build it you should have used a new performance cam and lifters the stock cam will not take advantage of the good flowing heads and intake. also if it is a flat tappet cam they really should be changed when you rebuild a motor unless you like to deal with flat cam lobes and dead lifters

    • @JunkyardDigs
      @JunkyardDigs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +oldschool Boost cam was inspected and checked out fine. The whole point of this motor was quick and cheap, and i was using the stock cam to limit the power it would make in order to help the weak c4 survive.

    • @JunkyardDigs
      @JunkyardDigs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +oldschool Boost fortunately, the build videos for this truck are a few months behind. Its on its second motor now, and has a proper built 5.0HO

    • @mwilliamshs
      @mwilliamshs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A) this motor is not being rebuilt, just had a few bolt-on parts changed out, to "freshen it up"
      B) no reason at all either an engine rebuild or the "freshen it up" job done here would cause a flat tappet cam to fail unless the lifters were installed wrong upon reassembly. Once a cam and lifter set is broken-in, it's very stable.

    What carb did you use? I think my 1982 f150 is under carbed. It has a 302 it pulls hard at 3/4 throttle than bogs a little at full. I got an exhaust single dumped before the axle and the vacuum lines pulled and capped off and an EGR delete so I don't think the stock 350 cfm carb does it. I'm thinking of getting a 600 cfm Holley

  • @positivenegative6525
    @positivenegative6525 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should’ve put the original exhaust manifolds on it. They sound better.

    I have a crate stock 300 six & a 302 that is from an unknown year ( 60's ) , runs good but puts out a trail of blue smoke . What is the gas MPG from your truck ? Not sure what motor to use , I have 2 trucks to build ONE out of .

    • @danoneill2846
      @danoneill2846 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a duel port 4 brl intake for the six & would likely put a 4 brl intake on the 302 with a rebuild . The old six had an off road cam also with headers & ran strong . Both got MPG that was not great . Thanks !

    • @JunkyardDigs
      @JunkyardDigs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I gt about 14 mpg and have 2.75 gear with no over drive. The 300 was bullit proof. Both great engines!

      +82SchoolBoy these are the Flowtech headers for this era f100 from summit racing. Good fit. May need massaging for the steering box. Only issue is they must go in before the motor does. It may be possible to put them in with the motor installed but defiantly not easy
