How is this video not more popular? Even though the jokes are 85 years old, they still ring true today. Hilarious!

Very funny and informative! Took me getting halfway through to realize this was satire.

1:23 The Old Stone House in Georgetown is the oldest house still on its original foundation in DC. It doesn't have a connection to George Washington, but it was that folklore that saved it from being demolished. It's now protected in it's own right because of its age.
2:51Author of the Star Spangled Banner, Francis Scott Key and his family lived in a house practically bordering the contemporary (Francis Scott Key) memorial from circa 1805 to 1830. After serving as a series of private businesses, the house was eventually dismantled and stored at the location of the memorial in 1947 for the construction of the Whitehurst Freeway.(copied from NPS website)
3:48 the buildings to the right in the video (left of the Lincoln Memorial) stood from 1918-1970 (look up "Main Navy and Munitions Buildings for details.)
4:27 This house at 1239 30th St NW isn't the smallest or narrowest house in DC. It didn't even fit that description when this film was made. The narrowest is probably 2726 P St NW and the smallest is12th Street at C Street NE (Capitol Hill).
4:38 The Octagon House at 1799 New York Ave NW,
was the temporary house of James and Dolley Madison from September 8, 1814 (after the burning of the White House by the British) until February 17, 1815 (6 months).
"The Dolley Madison House" is at 1520 H Street NW. She lived in it from November 1837 until her death in July 1849. It is known as "The Dolley Madison House" where as the other(in the video) is known as, "The Octagon," or "Colonel John Tayloe III House"
5:07 The Lemon Building stood at 1729 New York Avenue NW it was demolished in 1971. It would have been right behind the previously mentioned Octagon House.
5:30 St. John's Church stands at 1525 H St NW.
5:39 Library of Congress is at 67-69 First St SE
6:08 the NRA he refers to is the National Recovery Administration (abolished 1/1/1936) and not the National Rifle Association. The building (Herbert Hoover Federal Building) in the video is at 1401 Constitution Ave NW . It houses the Department of Commerce amongst other things. The facade as seen in the video is on 15 St NW.

The old stone house here is the one on constitution, not the one in Georgetown

@@Jackson-mb9cp the one referred to in the video, that he said was George Washington's last sleeping place, is located at 3051 M St NW. It's very clearly that house. The one on Constitution and 17th is "the Lockkeeper's" house (built in 1837 -making it the oldest on the National Mall) which sat alongside the Washington City Canal . They do look similar, but if you look closely you can see that the entrance is upstairs (the Keeper's is ground level), there's a building on the B side (where 17th St would be at the Keeper's) and there are fences and houses behind it (where the old Navy buildings should be at the Keeper's). The Lockkeeper's house wasn't constructed until a few decades after George Washington had died (which would definitely put the kaibash on the "Washington slept here" folklore the Old Stone House falsely has)

Oh and the chimneys were added back to the Keeper's house by the National Park Service when they moved the house back away from Constitution in 2017.

I think it’s super cool how we can listen back and the English is exactly the same as it is today. Imagine people in 500 years if our language was still the same and they could look back and watch these videos. The narrator was super funny too. Love the video

3:45 Lincoln's body was still warm when this was done. He was killed just 69 years earlier. People living then probably still remember when Lincoln was killed.

Some but not many. Avg life span in first half of 20th century was about 60-65. Maybe some 75 and older remember. But not many
