  • Radix is Latin and means Root. Also, the puzzle looks like a sprout coming out of the ground. Every time I disassemble this puzzle I enjoy the complexity of its movements!

      It's back together now, but it'll be a while before I try again. :)
      Also, that step at 2:47 I just can't seem to do without considerable force. Took me at least 40 minutes just to get past that. No amount of jiggling seemed to help, and without being convinced by Mr Puzzle's solution I never would have got further.

    once again I'm impressed by the design, with such unusual moves and tight tolerances, I imagine the concept is made initially with greater tolerances as a proof of concept the the tolerances are tightened to try to prevent glitch solutions.
    would they do this with computer software? I mean there have been centuries of puzzles prior to the computer... While the solution remains impressive, the process of making the puzzle is astounding.
    do you do any puzzle design Mr Puzzle?

    • @Mr.Puzzle
      @Mr.Puzzle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Every time I see puzzles like this one I am thinking about the same questions. Maybe you are right and they do it iteratively. This is also the most likely way from my point of view. Anyway, there must be some point where to start from. I will find out in the future! I will visit some farys. Maybe I can meet some designers there!
      I didn't design any puzzle so far but planning to do so in the future!

    • @trod146

      Ben Hutten-Czapski I know that some people do use design software to come up with puzzles, but we will probably never know if the man who created this one does or not. I think using a computer to design a puzzle is a great idea. drawing it out on paper, and thinking of it in your mind, just doesn't have the same effect as seeing your idea in 3 dimensions.

    From time to time I would read an article on quantum physics for example and try to understand what I read. I usually blame the authors for not being clear enough. Just to say I am in awe about these physicists, cosmologists, the Hawkings, the Einsteins, and many others. AND NOW, I have also to consider the guys that design these puzzles. This one in particular is from a very twisted, wicked, brillant mind. And to top that, it is beautiful. I'm ordering it.

    I bought it. Watched the video several times. Solved it several times. But I still get tripped up almost every time. This video actually makes it seem much more simple that it actually is. Even if you know the sequences the odd shapes (they are
    not round curved cylinders, but like rounded curved half cylinders with sharp edges) and the tolerances are so tight that every piece needs to be in an exact position and orientation to the others to move somewhat smoothly.

    After much practice, I can now solve this puzzle in less than 2 minutes. I've now begun to try and solve it blindfolded. Master it blindfolded and you will impress onlookers. Doing it blindfolded, two problems arise - the "Beautiful movement" part where the two ends thread through each-other's loops (which occurs in both the dis-assembly and re-assembly and is hard enough to do already, even when you can see it), and the identification of the orientation of the "bottle-opener" when beginning the re-assembly.

    I'm not sure how but when I was really into puzzles when I was younger I had this one and solved it regularly in a much simpler manner. It's been years but it had something to do with sliding the thinnest part of one curve through the 'loop' of the other. Maybe it was a defect in my version or a 'cheat'? I'm genuinely not sure. Is there a version of this puzzle that is somehow easier? I just don't believe I'd be able to solve this so easily after watching this guy do it.

      All parts would shrink and extend by the same amount.
      Also, the shrinkage tolerances due to surrounding temperature change is very tiny on these small parts.

    There is an even simpler solution than that,Mr Puzzle. However,I feel like your solution is more creative and fun.

      Multiple secret solutions add to this kind of puzzle. Definitely one of my favourite Hanayama puzzles. I'd really like to see a few unboxings and reviews of newer Hanayama puzzles like Cast Cake and Cast Dial. Just an idea. Keep up the great work!

    my granddad got me the same puzzle off a blacksmith in the 70's wales uk but made from nails and a cut washer, the solution was almost the same

    Wow! Impressive. I would give it a 6/6. For some reason my weakness is metal interlocking puzzles. Wood, no problem, metal, nope. Unless they are mechanical like the puzzle padlocks. Those were easy.

    I've solved this puzzle with two different technics and none of them was so complex or using that much force! I just tried yours and I really think it is not the "right way" for solving it. By the way it is a nice and original one ;)

    • @Mr.Puzzle
      @Mr.Puzzle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually there is no force needed. It just get stuck sometimes when the angle is wrong. When recording a video I have no time to take care about too many details, since I try to avoid cuts during the solving. 😊

      Anyway if anyone wants another challenge with this puzzle, it is possible to solve it another way which only similarity with this one is the position with both piece at each side of the "base", but every moves to get to this point and to go from this point to the answer are different! It just asks a little force for the last move!

    I remember this one . I did it many years ago。My friend had it , i found it one day when we had mushroom tea (if you know what i mean) , i spent nearly 24 hrs having a very deep conversation on existentialism , with it 'the puzzle ) . But by the time i came down to planet earth, it was solved . Never knew how i did it though , this proves to me that shrooms help unlock some areas of the brain, because i have never been able to solve it ever again .
