    Peter Pan is a good example. Based on the book at least, Hook just wants to leave Neverland. But Pan keeps him there because he wants someone to torment. And when Hook stands up to him...he cuts his hand off and makes him watch as he feeds it to a crocodile. If that weren't enough, Peter kills his own lost boys for growing up. It's something that they can't help obviously, and those who actually manage to escape are taken under Hook's wing and become his crew aboard the Jolly Roger.

      The book is an adaption (and I think there are several) of a story that’s originally a play. (OoT is also an adaption.)
      That said...I still hate Peter, although think the play basically turned Peter into a sociopath as “Why Children Should Grow Up...Eventually” as its main theme

      I really don't take the movie Malificent seriously. What people have forgotten is how vindictive they Fey were in Fairy tales and folklore. The idea of "good" Fey is relatively recent. They Fey originally were divided into evil and non evil. They only difference being the non evil would leave you in peace as long as you didn't offend them and the evil ones would do stuff for the evilz. The evil Fey were well known for disperpotiant retribution, targeting the offspring because of something the parents did and doing stuff just because they felt like it.
      Speaking of disperportionate retribution Beauty and the beast. One version I read the prince was cursed by a Fey who had a grudge with the prince's mother

    One more thing about The Enchantress, the servants say in the song “Be Our Guest” that it has been 10 years that they have been household appliances. From what I have heard during that time belle came he was 21. Now two things could have happened.
    1. The spell also caused him to stay 21 until the spell was broken
    Or
    2. He was 11 TRYING TO PREVENT AN OLD LADY HE DIDN’T RECOGNIZE INTO THE CASTLE BECAUSE OF STRANGER DANGER.
    (Its a big stretch ik)

    • @crystalraf
      @crystalraf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hmm, in the original tale, I think the beast was waaaayyy older than belle. Like it’s pretty obvious what this fairytale is really about here.....arranged marriages. Like back then women had to get married otherwise they would not have things like food to eat. So sometimes they had to settle for an old ugly guy. But this tale is preaching about what matters on the inside, (for the man, not the girl) and fathers can trade their daughter for whatever the hell they want, like a few roses (look it up) and everyone lives happily ever after. So, anways, the beast was like a middle aged guy by the time belle shows up in the real fairy tale.

    • @Iv1309
      @Iv1309 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@crystalraf I don't know but if she didn't truly love him she could have kissed him all she wanted and he wouldn't have changed back into a man. Although women don't depend on men anymore nowadays which is obviously better, I think many people have forgotten how to love and are judgmental of the old days when people were still taught that love isn't a feeling (that's infatuation) but a choice to commit and spend a lifetime together. People think they are falling in love nowadays while they only fall in lust. They share the bed and then leave each other. Or share the bed, marry, enjoy doing it until bad times arrive and then divorce. Most of the time children are the biggest victims of divorce. Most of the time this happens because the lack of intimacy at a certain point. And if intimacy was the core of the relationship, it's easy to understand that without it there's nothing left. No time era was perfect. And today certainly is not. I have decided to stay single for the rest of my life because this generation doesn't understand what love is anymore. People are not ready to love. They are ready to lust. And lie. And cheat. Abuse. Use. Etc. But love is something so rare among this generation! It's all just lust now. I would rather marry an old ugly guy that knows the true value of love than a fellow millennial that will leave me when my skin starts sagging and my libido goes down. But much better is not to marry at all. I used to be a romantic and I used to love the story of Beauty and the Beast. But I have learned the hardest way that you can't trust anyone but yourself. And cats.

He either was cursed to not age under the duration of the spell or he was curse as an adolescent and as another person mentioned, ten years passed making the beast (Prince Adam) in his early twenties in the time the movie takes place. As much as the idea isn't pleasant, but the most plausible explanation is the prince was cursed in his preteen or teen years. (What person in that age bracket wasn't a rebellious, mouthy brat during that time frame?) And with that logic, that makes the enchantress childish, hot headed and spiteful.

    • @alexanderchristopher6237
      @alexanderchristopher6237 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      That's the recipe of Disney movies: redemption arcs.
      Aladdin, in my opinion, is no different from Jafar. Jafar wanted power. By marrying Jasmine, Aladdin is poised to be one of the most powerful individuals in the kingdom. And that's not even counting his friendship with the Genie, the most powerful being in the movie. Let me ask you, which has more ambition: the vizier wanting to be king or the street urchin wanting to be the king's son in law?
      Ariel is foolish and curious, yes. But curiosity does kill the cat. And given what happened in the film, it was rightly so.
      Woody is kind of a jerk in not accepting Buzz into his toy family. He's selfish and always wanted to be Andy's no. 1 toy. Dude nearly don't want to go back home in Toy Story 2 and he was so adamant about going with Andy to college in Toy Story 3 that he's willing to leave his friends to the tyranny of Lazlo the toy bear. And I haven't seen Toy Story 4 yet.

    • @ellynmacgregor8210

      Excellent point, FantazyFangirl 13
      . The hero LEARNS from his mistakes; the villain does not, mainly because he doesn't believe the bad things he does ARE bad things. The vast majority of villains think they are doing what is right, and what everybody else is doing is wrong. Nearly every true villain is a hero in his own mind.

    • @stevenhiggins3055
      @stevenhiggins3055 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ellynmacgregor8210 A lot of the villains in Disney are narcissists who believe they're owed the world. Take Jafar, for example. He has several cut songs, only one of which gives is any insight into his backstory and that one implies he just feels entitled to rule. Not because he has any legitimate claim, but simply because his "charisma and mystique" (qualities he only believes he has) have gone unrecognized. Basically he just wants to feed his ego.
      People love to bring up "Twisted" and ignore the fact that it's fan fiction. Just like they love to mix OUAT backstories into the animated characters backgrounds and ignore that it's a totally separate continuity. I mean, I know the canonicity of cut songs and plotlines are dubious at best, but they're also the only insight we have to the intended characterization of some characters during production of the actual films in question.

    Also in Aladdin, you have someone dirt poor, homeless, living on the streets. He’s suddenly thrust into a situation that he couldn’t possibly have the mental, psychological and emotional tools to handle. Alladin’s moral guide was the genie and I don’t know about you but during a learning process you don’t get everything on the first try. Imagine having absolutely nothing in this world and literally in minutes you’re given an opportunity to have every dream you ever had come true. Google lottery winners gone wrong. This in no way makes any of these people bad or villainous. It makes them human and flawed. No one’s moral compass faces north 24/7. The whole point of character development is to show their journey into getting it, learning the lesson, accepting the morals and changing. Aladdin was thrust into a situation he couldn’t possibly understand and he did the best he could do which really wasn’t that bad at all. He was attracted to Jasmine, he never acted lecherous or untoward to her. Also he was willing to eventually tell her the truth if it came down to it and during the movie there were moments when he suffered immense guilt over Jasmine not knowing the entire truth, a truth he was ashamed of even tho he didn’t have to be. He basically lied and told her he was richer than she initially thought he was and what man hasn’t done some fake flossing to impress a woman. Again not villainous.

    I think you miss the point of the protagonist. Not only do we see the story through their eyes but a good protagonist is also flawed and part of their story is learning a lesson. Aladdin did deceive Jasmine, but his challenge was learning that he could not deceive her and have a happy life with her. Woody had to learn to accept that he wasn't always going to be Andy's favorite toy. This is very much like real life. No one is perfect, we all have lessons we need to learn. No one likes Aladdin because they think he's the perfect boyfriend or something. No, they like him because he is written like a real person, with flaws and all.

So of course the one thing parents tell the children not to do is not to open doors to strangers. And this is what he did he didn't know who she was so he simply didn't let her in. Also he was a child so he obviously going to think she is ugly because I mean he doesn't have sense and he probably thinks he can do what he likes. On his 21st birthday he will either turn back into a human or remain a beast forever. So for ten years he suffer alone in misery and all this started when he was just 11 years old he was just a child who didn't know what he was doing.

      Apparently you are forgetting what the Narrator said about the Prince *before* the Enchantress showed up: "Although the Prince had everything his heart desired, he was spoiled, selfish, and unkind." Also, the Enchantress could see "There was no love in his heart." His refusal to grant hospitality to the old woman--and remember, she gave him two chances--was only the final straw. He was *not* a nice, innocent little kid. And if the Enchantress was "100% of the villain in Beauty and the Beast", then why did she give him the Enchanted Rose and the Magic Mirror? A true villain would not have left him with such aids to his possible redemption.
      One more thing: if the Enchantress was "100% of the villain in Beauty and the Beast", what does that make Gaston? Please don't tell me he was the true hero of the tale...he was just misunderstood! Bleah! Some people have actually said things like that about that mega-jerk, Gaston. (Then again, people like that could easily be trolls. LOL!)

    1. The hyenas were banished due to over hunting and past treason.
    2. It was their father who made Mufasa king due to his selflessness.

    To be fair, Aladdin was originally written as a trickster character, his actions were never to be perceived as totally ethical or totally unethical. In today's viewpoint his actions are horrible, but when the story was originally written, they would still get a pass. We should always keep the time when such stories were written in mind when defining the character flaws and virtues.

    7:05 I agree the enchantress was the problem. The Prince was only 11, and this sounded like an old woman offering candy. He was offered a rose. But does that change a thing? Nope! She should have been just poor and NOT offering a thing. He would have let her in that way. Being old is just suspicious because he could have been kidnapped. She obviously didn't understand that.

    I don't agree with what was said about the enchantress. She didn't cast the curse on the beast because she was evil. She did it because of the poor way he treated her and for judging her on the way she looked rather than her character. She was only teaching him an important lesson. If he learned it ( which he did) the cruse would reverse itself, if not then he would get exactly what he deserved in the first place.

    Some people make mistakes, others get themselves into situations they never expected, and they feel that there is no other choice, but they are not bad, to be bad or good is an choice to make. Villains not just want to get what they want, they destroy others too, manipulate their lives, giving them false hope, hurting them in a bad way. There is a difference between a person who still learninh from his mistakes to be better, and another who enjoy hurting whoever he/she wants.
    People messed up, it happens, and it's a part of life, no one is perfect, but they can learn how to be a better person. While Villains is a very different thing, they choose to be like that, and they really enjoy it.

    2:09 I think the chief troll is the villain because if he hadn't tormented Elsa into thinking that her powers could hurt people(which they could) she wouldn't have felt afraid to use her powers. In the beginning of the movie,Elsa could completely control her powers. Her accidentally freezing Anna was because Anna was being reckless. If she hadn't felt trapped she wouldn't feel insecure. And therefore feel the need to run away where she couldn't hurt the people she loved.

    I think you are off base on Alladin. How you can tell if a character's actions are villainous is remove them from the story and watch what happens. Remove Alladin from the story. Jafar does not find his diamond in the rough, does not get the lamp and seizes the kingdom by forcing Jasmine to marry him.
