As always a quality antenna system, proper antenna tuning with an external SWR meter, and proper antenna grounding are all essential, for a great working system. I took around 6 hours with the old video for my cobra 29 chrome I have upgraded internals however done to mine but man oh man all that static that i use to get once i grounded and did the wire runs through the mirrors on a t680 took me forever but the longest part was the sanding but i tell ya after doing that and runnibg the power cord down to the batteries man oh man a world of difference now i plan to get a stryker 955 and or Ranger from the Petro down by blue flame in ATL but these videos are life saving thank you brother for all the input
Man 6 hours? Did you watch my t680/t880 video? I think it took 2 hours and that's with filming. Order the cord and capacitor from Big Rig Radios first, then Leo at Atlantic Coast can hook you up.
Great video. I up grades my power wire to 8 gauge from the battery. That made a big difference.

Thanks for sharing man. On my 955 in the dump truck the volume that I hear in the cab with my speaker or without was cut in half yesterday with a smell of burnt electric at the speaker jack. I noticed while listening to others my power was dipping into the 11.5v range when it started happening.
I think something is fried near the speaker jack but haven't seen anything real obvious yet. In the very far right hand corner it looks like a surface cap is gone. The schematic shows 2 there but only 1 is present in my radio. Its right to the right of the speaker jack with the radio upside down of course.
I've long suspected that I need a power wire upgrade also.

I removed the 3 pin connector and using a gray 50 amp connector and I got an extra volt with #8 to the battery. Easy to take in and out of the truck. Used a 6800uf cap

That's what it take some times. In this video we installed the capacitor wrong (kinda). It works like that, but it installs on the power pins inside the radio. 1 leg to the negative and the other leg to bridge the 2 positives. He will send you a card with a TH-cam link and show how he does it properly. You can do the ground straps without the solder pot. Just do it the old fashioned way with solder and a small torch.
And while it seems like a lot of money, it's less than what most spend on a cell phone every 2 years, and CBs last way longer than that.

The original power cord had plastic fuse covers that wear out do to amp draw.
But best thing to do Rremove the 3 prong from radio put Anderson powe chassis mount in radio .
You'd probably have to do it like the Rangers are, not sure You'd get much more if any, unless you went with a D-Rail tuned radio.
I did this mode 3-4 years ago on my Ver1 955 and Zane added the Capacitor. We got the same results you got... 605 in the BBI Powered Diesel Wagon. bump bump.

I have an older first generation Stryker SR 440 when ever I find the old 3 pin type connectors that can be opened up I snag them up. Then I drill the hole to accommodate 10 gauge wires solder them in heat shrink everything. Not sure I would try the capacitor swap because my soldering skills aren't very good anymore.

What are those wire connectors called to connect my positive and ground from battery box to the upgraded Stryker wiring ?
I’ve always been told run your equipment directly to the battery using fuses both pos & neg…Today’s over engineered junk creates a lot of problems & static. Hell, if you run your power through the fusebox, even a shitty light bulb can create havoc!

I have never used 10 A.W.G. wire for a 12v. battery connection. I assume battery lugs for the battery terminal post bolts are available at hardware stores?

Hey had a question on my Stryker 655 that doesn’t seem to get any reach out at all, constantly talking to guys within literally a couple feet say across the highway and then they’re gone that quick
Probably the coax, antenna or antenna location. It's rarely the radio
Hey man. I have a Stryker, and I’m getting excessive static normally around the 4 range. Changed out chargers, etc. I have a K10 predator antenna with generic Wilson Coax you can find it any truck stop. Is there anything I can do to reduce the static to a minimal?

Go buy a Stryker sr a10 mag mount. You’ll notice less static.
What size fuse should be used in line on heavy duty power cord going to battery for Stryker 655hp.

So my question is how do ya keep it from dropping voltage.. drain has 14.7 and keys down it drops to 14.4 .. not a whole volt
You may not be able to stop all voltage drop. But with a better power cord and the capacitor greatly improves.

Can u go to the fuse panel and draw power from the power terminals instead of going all the way to the battery and get the same results??
Some trucks yes and some no, just have try it and see if there's any voltage drop

They are great radios, however I'm on the Ranger bandwagon now. The x9 is smaller and has more power for the same money. Or, the 99n2 has even more power for just a few dollars more.

Or you can twist the wires in a spiral fashion to cut out the engine noise and also find a proper chassis/dash ground not the grounding terminal!
Will my factory CB jacks in cab be enough power to polish my Stryker 497hpc? Or should I go through trouble of wiring to the battery ?
You won't get as much power unless you go to the batteries.

I called nearly a half dozen times, even left several messages, and never received a call back. Apparently, they have so much business that they don’t need anymore or they would at least return a phone call.
They're getting a lot business, but I had no problem getting them on the phone last week. However they could be taking a few days off for the holiday.
I would say buyer beware, I just ordered the cord and capacitor this week it is not the same power cord that J Rich has. I did not get a 10 AWG wire, I got a speaker wire cord that appears to be of the same thickness, but does not say 10 AWG. I am not saying that it wont be a improvement, but I think you should know exactly what you are getting when you order products. I will say the transaction was fast and was shipped fast.

Does this Capacitor mod work for V1 and V2 of the 955?
Yes, however, don't remove the factory capacitor. Put the new capacitor where the power pins are inside. Bridge the 2 power pins with the capacitor.
@@jrichtruckincbtips the video shows you changing out the cap on the board with the larger one. So you are saying don't remove the stock one, instead put the 4700uf on the 2 power pins coming in? Negative side of the capacitor to the negative pin and the other leg on the 2 positive pins? If this is how I'm understanding, did you leave the jumper that was installed between the 2 positive pins or bridge them with the cap? Thanks for the videos. Keep 'em coming.

I was asking an ebay seller to make me a cord like this. He laughed and basically called me an idiot. Then followed with multiple emails,to further tell me how I'm wrong. It was like having a crazy ex on the other end. Haha. People are crazy.
Yep, people have their own thoughts and theories. But, Mr.BBI has a video with a d-rail 955 that does 90ish watts on the stock cord and over 150 watts with this same cord.

Did you try 15.5V?
Don't have 15.5v. 14.2v is about the most without major upgrades in a mobile setup.
Just bought a 955 from the place you recommended in your last video. You do not say how long this new power cord is. It isn’t going to help if you don’t go direct to the battery.
Big Rig Radios will make the power cord to the length you want. Just the cap and cord are worth 10 watts together on stock vehicle wiring. The cord, cap, connecting the pins, and wiring to the battery is worth another 15+.

@@jrichtruckincbtips i think what mat is saying is that you took a to a 2.59 diamter conduter [10 gauge ] and reduced it to 1.63 diamger [14 gugage,] i guess another way to look at is lets say you rant a 3 inch pipe of waters for 50 feet and then reduced 1 inch right before you got to your destination, technically your still getting more flow because there is a less resistance over all BUT if your gonna go 10 awg go all the way, i ran 10 awg right to the solder point, now there is no disconnect BUT. . with no reduction
@Mike Rivera JR what some fail to realize is this is a 3 wire plug. 2 power and 1 negative.
@@jrichtruckincbtips defintiley, that actually brings up a very intersting point. on certain high power inverters that are pulling well over a 100 amps, the manual will say can run thinner wire for the negative , for example 2 00 awg for the positive, and then 4 awg, for the negative, this also baffled mine because i thought that a circuit needs same current thru out the whole circuit, but i guess that not true, i know a lot to no more than most, BUT No nothing comparied to the engineers, out there, just did your mod 10awg to the pins, new cap and then beefed up the traces and man what a difference [on a quad 5555nII]
@Mike Rivera JR this was not a radio that I bought, just a test of what it will do before any tuning or mods. The power cord came from Big Rig Radios out in Phoenix AZ. However, Zane said we placed the Capacitor in a different spot than he does. He doesn't replace the factory cap, he uses the 4700uf cap to bridge the 2 power pins, then the negative leg to the negative pin.

No, I think not! It doesn't matter what meter, mic, whistle,, or if you scream in the mic. As long as you do the same for both power cords. This has been made and tested by others that are smarter than you and me combined. So go to the others and plead your case of BS.
