The only components I liked to write in the tag syntax were pure sql "repositories", where I would only use the tag. I find it a bit easier to sneak in a (maybe if I only wanted to count of a query), but of course can also get quickly verbose and unnecessarily complicated. Overall I don't think it's a bad idea to remove tag based components / classes.
