Hi John, just found your videos. The transparency of your tribulations and successes is much appreciated! Wondering if you have any updates on how this flame weeding technique worked for your hops? Did you only do the spring application? Could you go back once the plants have started climbing for further weed control? Thanks again!

John...I picked up one of these, but have been reluctant to use it. I had wanted to use it like you guys did...for both the weeds and the early shoots. I was super afraid to do that...was afraid the hops wouldn't grow back as it's a new/immature yard. How did they grow back? Do you use it during the Summer to control weed growth? If so, how do you protect the growing hops?
    Thanks!

Nice video...can you comment on how much success you've had with wood chips as a mulch in terms of weed suppression? and any or +/- with regards to your hops? Thanks

I wonder if something like that would work with market garden

Iain Robson It does. We've been trying it out thanks to the insight from Jean-Martin Fortier's book. I'll do a video when I'm confident with the system.

***** that would be awesome. I'll share with the in laws. They have a market garden so weeds are always an issue

I find it interesting that John went to so much trouble in learning, documenting, publishing and then not answering some of the question in public. For the most part, this seems to make this process mostly a one way communications, of which there is little or no light at the end of the tunnel.

Did it kill the weed seed? Did weeds come back as thick?

Hops are very capital intensive to start and take a while to be productive. I'd only pursue it if you are attached to a brewery or have experience growing hops.

for my home garden nothing works better than newspaper. I use whole newspaper the thicker the better. I dont know is this is practical for you. I think shreded paper may work well in your case. Might be worth a try. You could ask your CSA folks to save their pappers for you.
