    Love this! I am flame coloring a pair of earrings, and one came out great, and the other one kept turning black. I just finish successfully coloring the second earing. Thanks. And now I have other ideas to work on. I'm excited!

    Hi, Nancy, love your enthusiasm and sense of humor, your videos are always fun and informative. But (you knew it was coming, right, lol?), it would help soooooo much if you could at some point, maybe at the end so it wouldn't require constant refocusing of the camera throughout the video, show close-ups of the results you got with the various media you are applying.
    All we get out here is your reassurance that something is happening, but we can't really SEE it! It can get pretty expensive to buy full sizes of the products only to find out that perhaps we don't like the effect after all.
    Thanks for your hard work making these videos, they are much appreciated!

    Liquitex makes a clear gesso. I haven't tried it - other than canvas prep - but I think it would be cool to prime and color and still be able to see the natural metal underneath. That aside, thanks for putting so much fun into your videos. Peace and happy things.

    Like your videos and always learn a lot. I was particularly interested in the nail polish. Try gel polish with added very fine glitter and a clear coat in the ultra violet thing like at the manicurists use. I got a set recently from Fred Meyers with the machine and four bottles of polish including the clear coat on top for under $40. Works great on toothed metals and is almost undistructable.

    Coolio… Another idea that I've used in past is the liquid sealer, that also adds a bit of dimension, that I used to use when making cards and other paper art…was the name Diamond somethingorother??? Oh, and crackle used for paper arts, too. Oh, and if you want to add ephemera, use resin. I did that with a scorpion! It turned out really cool. At this point, I think I'm sticking with torch color and LOS. But, you did give me some ideas regarding gesso. U R such my hero.

    Thanks Nancy for your wonderful videos! Do you have a way to protect your torch fired colors on copper? I have tried several sealants: krylon, vintag, mod podge, liquitex, clear nail polish, and permalac. They all seem to dull the colors or make some disappear. I believe the colors are called inference colors so I'm not sure you can protect them. Also have you tried producing colors on copper/brass using red rouge first then hitting it with a flame. A friend taught this to me many years ago. The wax from the rouge tends to hold the colors fairly well. Thanks again!

    Another fun video. I use alcohol ink to color Robert Dancik's Faux Bone using the traditional application of a felt pad and stamping tool. I use Vintage Glaze as a sealer.

      Haven't tried that as yet. I do have some pvc pipe that I've been thinking about using. I've also heated the faux bone with a hea gun and shaped it to make curves.

    Hi Nancy. Thanks you for these videos. Both you and they are great! I don't know if you check for replies at this late a date but if so have you tried the ceramic coatings that are out for cars now as a sealer for your jewelry? Maybe on top of a clear coat? The reason I ask is that I am just getting started into making and wouldn't know the difference anyway. Also, if you have a laser thermometer have you checked to see at what temperature the various colors show up on the metal? Thanks again and have a Blessed day!

    Nancy, I liked your tut and the personality you put into your presentation. However, the camera work leaves a lot to be desired. I would really like to see the effects you came up with on the metals closer up. And if you could hold the peices steady for a few seconds so we can actually see the results.
    Thanks.

    Stainless steel will also color with a torch and is really pretty, but it takes quite a lot and is tough to work. I like it a lot though, almost as much as copper.

      I think you might be able to set your closed captioning off by clicking on the CC on the bottom right corner of your video screen. When I have CC on there is a red underline under the CC and when it is off there is no red line underneath :) Hope to help.

    Hi Nancy! Your videos are always so inspiring...and FUN! Couple questions, if I may. Any particular types of colored pencils to use (or not use) for that technique? Oh drat, I already forgot the other question. lol Maybe more later....maybe. Thanks for doing these videos! Love them!

  • @maureenhouston1026
    @maureenhouston1026 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loved it! I have seen a video where they used borax and heated it on the metal and got great colors ... I cannot seem to duplicate .. is there a trick to this technique? Love your stuff!

    • @NancyHamiltonJewelry
      @NancyHamiltonJewelry  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mention that in the video information section. Mix borax and water, drop the hot metal into it. Usually, makes reds. You can also do it with salt water. Adjust concentrations to see which proportions work best. One of the images for the video (the red one) was done with borax/ boric acid and water. Thanks. Have fun playing.
