PERFECT!!!! I have the AT&T router/modem and I knew that I was going to run into problems with that since none of the other sites, especially the Orbi tutorial, addressed the router/modem setup like AT&T has given us. I was looking for using the Orbi as an access point and didn't even know that was what I was looking for. Thank you so much.

For anyone doing this, it's a great video. Couple of things to be aware of: First, when running your Orbis in wired AP mode, make sure you plug the satellites directly into the main Orbi. Also, you will lose features running in AP mode like Guest Network.

’m having Google fiber 5gb installed this weekend, so would you have any recommendations for configuring my NETGEAR Orbi SXR80 router and satellites? The Orbi is currently connected using Cat6 with Att gig fiber unit. Just wanting the best setup for optimal performance. Not too much posted on using my own router with google fiber. Thanks for any information you may provide. 👨‍🚒🚒

    Great video, thank you.
I'm pretty sure this is the solution I've been looking for. I'm trying to assist my 82 year old father, who lives in Wales, remotely from New Zealand. Thats a struggle in itself! He's using a proprietary, all in one, including digital voice for the landline, router/modem from his isp.
He has a Netgear Orbi mesh system (RBR350), 1 x router and 2x satellites, to connect.
I have a couple of questions:
    1) I am assuming that the Orbi router is connected to isp router via the LAN ports?
    2) At some point, if setting up the Orbi wifi ID and password to the same ID as the isp wifi and password (to avoid having to setup wifi connectivity with 3rd party devices again, such as TV's etc) that the wifi on the isp router will need to be turned off to avoid conflict?

I recently upgraded my Fibre connection (250 Mbps Download) from the node to the Premises and my ISP provided me with a modem/router all in one (TP-Link VX420-G2h). At first I connected my Orbi Mesh router (RBR50 model) in AP mode and connect to the ISP modem/router ethernet port. Then connect my Orbi satellite (on the second floor) to a Netgear switch (GS108) which is connected to the main Orbi router which is on the first floor. Wifi connection was hitting 245 Mbps download and Ethernet connection from the switch to my laptop, I was getting up to 269 Mbps. Then i decided to test something else. Set my ISP modem/router combo in Bridge mode and used my Orbi mesh router as the actual router instead as an Access point. My question is, which way is better, using the ISP modem/router and used the Orbi Mesh router as Access Point or used the ISP modem/router in Bridge Mode and use the Orbi Mesh as a router? Is there a difference between those two different configuration? Which set-up is better? With the ISP modem/router in Bridge mode and Orbi mesh used as the router, I noticed that my wifi connection on the second floor (where the Orbi Satellite is) is faster than when connecting my MacBook Pro via Ethernet to the Orbi router via the Netgear switch, with significant drop in download speed (less than 150 Mbps and at time even below 100 Mpbs). This is driving nuts, why the Wifi connection will do over 230 Mbps and the ethernet wired connection less. I can't make sense of it.

Excelent video i believe you could have elaborated more regarding which port to use on Orbi after downgrading it from level three to level two as the main yellow color ethernet port was assigned to be used as routing port can you still use this port.

Awesome video bro. I am in exact same situation as yours however, I already have the CBR40 orbi which is a modem+router device. Is there a way I can use this as an access point to the ATT modem?

ATT is cutting my speeds in half over wifi. You didn't have this problem?

I followed the exact same setup. I am all good and connected howeever, I cannot access Orbi app from mobile it says no router detected. What can be the issue?

Please advise how to add a failover capability to my Orbi RBK853 without having to put it into AP mode. I have Verizon 5G Home Internet service (330 mbps down) operating in IP Passthrough mode. I also have an (unreliable) Xfinity modem-only service (900+ mbps down) I hope to use as secondary/backup. What inexpensive failover router (e.g., TL-ER605?) should I use to feed the Orbi and is it possible to run the Orbi without it being in AP mode?

THANK YOU for this, it is EXACTLY what I am trying to do but I'm still worried about screwing something up. My ISP's modem/router is a Zyxel c3000z. I have found by going into it's configs via a web browser I can turn off the "wireless radio" for both the 2.4 and 5Ghz networks. I can also then go and toggle "ISP Protocol" in "WAN settings" to "Transparent Bridging". My question is, when I am setting up my ORBI router into AP mode and the radial buttons appear under "Choose IP Address settings on this access point", I know I should click the button that says "get dynamically from existing router" BUT...do I do this BEFORE I change my ISP modem/router into Bridge mode or AFTER? Meaning will the ORBI get the IP Address dynamically from the ISP modem/router if it has been essentially turned OFF and into Bridge mode?

I don't know much about the different types of hardware needed for different types of internet connection but currently my ISP in town has upgraded to fiber. I'm in a small Midwest town so currently our speed is 25 down. With fiber available now I'll be able to upgrade to 50 down for about the same price so obviously this is a good deal.
The trouble is I have a orbi mesh Wi-Fi 6 setup and they are telling me I will have to use the ISP equipment when upgrading to fiber. Currently I have DSL but is this a lie and can you use orbi connecting to the hardware they give for fiber setup? Is it worth keeping orbi?

    • @chgomez

You can use the ISP equipment with the Orbi system. Yo do not have to use any ISP equipment if you don't want to. I've done both. The first configuration ran from the ONT (optical network terminal) to the main Orbi and then into a 10gig switch where I hardwired my other devices. When I outgrew the 2.5gbps port on my Orbi, I started using the ISP provided router, which has faster ports than my Orbi. So now, it runs from the ONT into the ISP provided router (which has two 10gig ports, one input and one outputting to my switch), from the switch into the main Orbi. The satellites then plug wired into the main Orbi and the entire Orbi system is in AP mode.

If you change to AP mode can you change it back by a reset

    • @al.mayasa5261

Yes, it will. Just make reset with pin and you will have factory reset.

Thank you for explaining the ISP router vs Orbi router. Orbi documentation is meh and I have Verizon modem/router. This content has cleared the questions I was having setting up my 960s.

Just buy good AP'S instead of paying for the router
