I have been watching you for many years. I grew up in Mormon church. And I met my husband and I became a Christian, asking god to show me his ways and to not be so so confused and he did. It was very hard growing up Mormon, but I am free indeed from them. Thank you for stepping out and write in this book.

I am listening to her book in audio. As I listened to her talk about Bill Gothard, I was stuck with how similar the "principals" sound to Mormonism. Not *exactly* the same but SO similar! I attended a Basic Seminar and an Advanced Seminar when I was engaged and newly married. It had a strong effect on my mind. I considered homeschooling my kids through the ATI program when they were old enough.
I finally truly understood and believed the Gospel when I was 6 months pregnant with my first baby, even though I was raised in a Christian home and faithfully attended a Bible Preaching church. The Gospel was very muddied through all the standards and rules.
I let go of Bill Gothards teachings YEARS ago, but hearing them read aloud from Jinger realize how close IBLP is to Mormonism.

I have an LDS/Mormon background too! I totally saw myself in her book. Although we had a different set or rules and expectations, they were also man-made. Still trying to figure out where I fit in the Christian world, but I'm not giving up.

Watching your journey has been such an eye opening experience for me. As a young Mom our church got into Bill Gothard. It’s hard to put into words how that affected my entire life. 😢 I believe his teachings were a bit harsher for females as well. I’m now almost 70 and what a freeing experience this is becoming for me. Thank you so very much. ♥️ I look forward to reading your book.

Jinger - I just finished your book Friday evening and I'm so very grateful for it! My husband and I and our three sons came out from Mormonism 7 years ago. I related so much to your story of disentanglement and saw a lot of my own journey in it. Several times when reading the book I just burst into tears and had to stop and praise God. I saw so many of our family and friends leave 'The Church' and left God entirely. However, we left and found truth - the true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I remember telling God I just wanted truth. I knew I had not been taught correctly but felt like there was bits of truth mingled through all the 'philosophies of men' I had been taught all my life. So much I couldn't tell where the truth stopped and lies begin (and vice versa). Jinger's story her mother-in-law told her at the end of the book describes this so well.
Anyway, at the beginning of our journey out of Mormonism, I remember praying/begging God to just show me the truth. I felt him ask me what beliefs I was willing to give up. I told him, immediately, 'Everything. I'll give up everything because I don't know if any of it is true and I just want the truth. However, the only thing I know is that Jesus is my Savior. But, I know I don't even understand what that means!' God, then, in his absolute wisdom and loving kindness began to lead and teach us to the right teachers/books/sermons that taught us to true gospel and his true nature. It took a long time but he led us little by little. I remember when I finally began to understand The Trinity and was just so amazed at how much 'bigger' God is than I ever imagined. Praise god for his loving gospel and praise be to Jesus always for saving our souls.
Thank you, Jinger, for your dedication and courage in writing this book.

My heart explodes when I see you speaking the truth in love. I grew up IFB church/school and it's very similar to your upbringing. I rebelled from their legalistic teachings when I was a senior in high school. I knew they were twisting bible verses to mean things they didn't actually mean. Being unequally yoked (based on skin color and not salvation), women not dressing in men's apparel (meaning no pants, even though they make women's pants) ect. Thankfully, it was just at school/church/church activities, and not so much at home. To this day, the distorting of the Bible angers me, and now being an adult, finding out about the sexual misconduct that happened under our noses breaks my heart. So many men unpunished because IFB pastors swept it under the rug and were even perpetrators themselves. Speak it loud, Jinger. We are watching and praying for the hearts and minds of those that need to hear it. 🙏

I’m in my 50’s and still have things come up in my heart and I’m saddened but thankful the Lord is working in me. But it does take a while to work through these things. And yes continuing to study Scripture and only look at the Bible is key. It is sad how many follow sinful men above the Bible and then add to it. Truly praying your book helps others to want to dig into Scripture for themselves and gain freedom in Christ alone. 2 Peter 1:2-3

I too like Jinger was raised in a snake-handling church cult and have had the hardest time developing my own beliefs and not those drilled into me as a child. This makes me very, very happy. I kind of watched the show with her whole family when my wife started watching, but the intense legalism and never ever hearing Jesus's name spoken wasn't something I enjoyed. But because I worry about every person I come across, it was hard to forget - especially as other people new to faith could be very confused and fall into what I believe is legalism. Bill Gothard requires way more than one comment.
The worry/concern is often that people will realize they're in a cult, sitting under bad teaching, etc, and decide God was the problem. So as others have written, really so happy that Jinger did not walk away from God. He obviously never walked away from her. ❤ Praying her book will reach people who are in similar situations.

I'm so happy you could write this book. I'm so excited to read it.
I grew up in an IFB church under several pastors who were very much influenced by Jack Hyles and such. I even went to Hyles Anderson in Crown Point and First Baptist church for about 5 years. My entire life was wrapped up in church, and the fears that my pastors put into me about serving God , marriage, and Christian growth, and seperation.
I've not walked away from my faith in God, but I've learned over the years to change my mindset about how I treated myself and others. I do mot question my doctrine, but I do not condone the mistreatment of our brothers and sisters in the faith in the name of Christianity.

After 4 years of being told that I couldn't wear make up or jewelry that I can't wear pants and not allowed to cut my hair. I had it!!!! We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Not by what we put on or take off.

LIke you I've had some things to work through too e3xcept mine struggles deal more with neglect by my birth parents and sexual abuse by my adopted dad so different from you but I believe on the same level. Way to go Jinger; you are such an amazing woman. Thank you Jeremy for nurturing this woman and her gift, and for following your heart and reaching for Jinger as your wife.
I was raised FLDS; and yes it’s hard to keep the faith when faith has been used to hurt.
I don’t follow any religion, but I don’t close my heart (the bible says to join none of these, for they all teach the doctrines of man) My heart is his temple, unless he gives me an unmistakable sign that I need to attend a building.

I loved Ojai. You probably drove through my hometown of Santa Paula when you got off hwy126. God is doing alot of healing and exposing of wrong teaching! I'm from So Cal as is my family. I've considered leaving California due to so many issues here. We moved to Central Cal 16 years ago. I have to say that the freedom you've found in Christ has renewed my faith in the fact that it doesn't matter WHERE we live. It matters that we have FREEDOM in Jesus our Savior!! ❤️

The Lord really used your television show in my life. I was taking care and helping my father. We loved to watch 19 kids together. I’ve seen every episode I believe. You are loving just like your mother. Your parents are wonderful and they never meant to harm you in anyway. Does the rest of your family agree with you? Either way, they are wonderful, your family. I am thankful for all of you. I think some of the Bates have left Bill Gothard as well for different reasons. Both you and Jeremy have been blessed with wonderful parents.
Praying that your book will help those that have been hurt by the organization.

Jinger,, I just saw your interview with Allie Beth Stuckey. It was tremendous! I never knew where it came from, the teachings you were raised by, and this cleared up so much for me in my mind. Thanks for sharing your story and so happy to know things are clearer for you regarding God's word and its truth! God tells us that "man" is a screw up from day #1 so going to man rather than God's word for direction will forever be a fail. But God is SO GOOD and he gives us what we need, i.e. Jeremy!! LOL Now ... go conquer the world, Girlfriend. Much love and continued joy and blessings to your family!! Excellent job!!

You have grown and changed so much. Never regret the choices you made to leave the IBLP and your family’s teachings behind. Just be cautious as you continue to evolve and don’t get sucked in by more false teachings which might crop up. Never go back to believing that you must be under anyone’s umbrella of authority. You are your own woman first and foremost. I am happy to hear of your plans to encourage your girls to be the best they can be. You had to learn that later in life but the good news is your girls will have opportunities and education that you were never given. Bless you, Jeremy, and both your girls. I am excited to read your book. I hope your siblings take cues from you.

So proud of you Jinger ! The book is such a great testimony to Christ and an inspiration/ reminder to put your trust in the Lord not men. Also I hope that while it’s understandable that you have regret for all of those times visiting prisons or tlaking to other young women about your “Growing up Duggar “ book you didnt focus on Christ but externals , you and your family did draw some to Christ via your show myself included. I became saved after your family prayed on an episode and I looked up scripture and was saved soon after. Thank you for taking the time to share with us. My prayer is that you continue to seek the Lord and who He is and that you trust Him with your heart enough to allow yourself to be open and a little vulnerable with friends and loved ones. I still struggle with some social anxiety, so I know the battle it can be. Thanking the Lord for you !

Jinger, I have seen some of the recent interviews you have given about your book and I will definitely be reading it! I came out of the Jehovah’s Witnesses 3 years ago after being in for 27 years. JWs also have many, many rules that the members have to follow or else they won’t be accepted and loved by the other members. When I left, my mother and mother in law stopped talking to me because to them I have left God. Thank you for speaking out about the damage some religions can do to people.
