    I agree 100%! These BOZOs don't deserve a Z1900, they deserve a 3.5hp Briggs & Stratton go-kart!!! I really hope that bike was passed on to someone who will bring it back to all it's glory!!!

    Yes I also bought one in 73, I think the dealer was Johnson Motors, Vancouver Canada. The sound of that engine brought back memories for sure.

    I had a '73 Z-1 900 ltd. Fastest bike I ever owned. I took it apart to re-build it and life got in the way. I met my wife, we had some kids, got married. Then my mom sold the house where the bike was stored and I just couldnt go get it at the time. The worst part is, they just hucked it into a dumpster when my mom was cleaning out the last of the stuff before she moved. I almost cried when they told me what they did with it. I had the jugs bored out to 1200 cc's, had the head rebuilt, slightly ported and polished and a few other things I cant remember now. Oh well, life goes on.

      Really I have looked for this same bike for many years, I have the 72 single disc brake in the front, This bike can be made to run just as good as the new easy finance crotch pigs. I can get this 900 pushing 145 hourse. Mine is 145 back tire horse power. Know how to work on every nook and cranny. rebuild the whole bike ripp it down and putt it back together with much much improvement. all day!

    A common problem with a Z1 that has been sitting for a long time is stuck rings. No need to tear down the engine, just take it for a run of a couple of hundred miles and they will fee up.

    I bought that same bike, brand new in 1973. It was my everything. I babied the living daylights out of it. Let me take that girl off your hands and I'll treat it with the respect it deserves.I couldn't watch the whole video.... Couldn't bare to see you beat on it. Sad

      +Binder Dundat Mate I couldn't agree more... My last Z1 I bought for $1500 and then rebuild, she was my baby till I was forced to sell it for growing family reasons. The only photo I have of it from back then, is with my eldest daughter 2yrs - now 32yrs sitting on dads bike smiling up a storm. Now I've done a full circle, its time to find a basket cast and rebuild it. Kinda pissed me to see that dickwad fist that ol girl cool, even if a rebuild was coming.... Shame on him !

    1973 in Marquette Mi. ,I bought one new after seeing one pass by in the opposite direction. Didn't know what went by at the time but knew it wasn't a Honda 750. After discharged from K.I. Sawyer AFB I drove it home to Mobile Al. Alone the way got nothing but stares because at that time it was the baddest thing on wheels.

    @TDem73 its just a case of remmbering even at 10mph if you land your head on the concreate, your likely to fracture your skull open. and same goes for the other parts, the weight of the bike will likely cuase your ankle to snap etc

    My friend in Texas had 6 bikes given to him and got an old kz 1000 running and started driving it to work.I told him "get a new chain".He was too cheap and broke the chain 2 weeks later romping on it in a parking garage.Wrapped around the output shaft .He called me and said how do you fix the cracks radiating out from the output shaft?Junked it.Not an expert but I know the chain is very critical and they have gotten way better.Cheap insurance!

  • @rudftgi
    @rudftgi 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @caferacer7 I think it is a real 73 Z-1. The mags and discs were a popular update which made these old mankillers some what better bikes to ride. Like Kawasaki themselves did in the later years. I think the frame parts you are referring to are where the old restrictive four muffs used to hang on? Cool bike there TDEM73, please make more vids of it!!!

    @jmac5058 Which H-2? The 72 or 73 H-2 would beat it in the 1/4 by 2/10 of a second,but it was 12 mph faster in the top end. That Z-1 1/4 mile time was the same (12.5) until the carbs went from 28mm to 26mm in 76.

    I don't think this is an actual '73 Z1 900. Somebody went to all the trouble to fit mag wheels and a rear disk break if so. The frame just doesn't look correct at the swingarm area, however.

      @peterhoulis1184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    @toycollector10 would u know why some exhaust pipes dont heat up like they should???? i have that problem with mine, after i leave it on for a good time, i spray water at each header and only two dry up quick and the other two stay wet? ive checked the carbs and there clean, all the coils seem fine and the spark plugs are new. is it because its been sittin too long?? please reply thanx

  • @toycollector10
    @toycollector10 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stunter956 I'm not a mechanic but your bike probably needs the carbs cleaned properly. It's smoking too. If it had been sitting for a long, long time, the valve stem seals stick to the valve stems and as soon as the motor is turned over they tear. I would say just ride it and enjoy it as she is or pour lots of money into it to get it right.

  • @1100HondaCB
    @1100HondaCB 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I believe the Z1 set a land speed record in 1973 at an average of 160mph. I bet Honda weren't happy as the Z1 must have made the CB750F look slow.

    • @Yowman144
      @Yowman144 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes in 1973 Kawasaki broke 52 records! They set the 100 Kilometer speed record at little over 160 MPH and they set the 24 hour endurance record at an average speed of just over 120 MPH. They could have run faster but the tires of the day wouldn't hold up, so they had to maintain a slower speed than what was really possible.

    • @Yowman144
      @Yowman144 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I bought my KZ1000-LTD in 1977 when the CB 750's were the bike to have; they couldn't even come close to the Kawasaki, neither did the KZ1000 or the '78 Suzuki 1000 which was touted to be faster! My LTD blew away a regular KZ like it wasn't there. The '78 Suzuki GS 1000 was a little quicker. My room mate bought one and was really demoralized when we raced three or four times one day; every time I beat him by a good 4-6 bike lengths or better. Still have my KZ and am working on getting it up and running after getting the carbs totally rebuilt and a new set of valves...

    • @ashlieeddy4075

      I bout my KZ1000-LTD Spring of 1977...most of the bikes around back then were CB750s and KZ650s. I remember many a time, one of them coming up along side me and revving their engines, like they were going to race. Neither of those bikes could even come close to my KZ1000-LTD; for that matter neither could a regular KZ1000 or the Suzuki GS1000 in 1978.

    HELLO PEOPLE !!!! That is NOT a '73 ZI. Look at the reasons why. The 73 did NOT have dual front disc brakes. It did NOT have Comstar wheels, they were spoke wheels. The battery placement is 180 degrees off. Non stock exhaust. I'm thinking 76, 77 model. TDem 73, you need to treat that bike with RESPECT ! I have a true 73, and it is beautiful. Take care of what you have. They are getting fewer and far between any more.
