  • We were lucky enough to have the National Trust allow us to film at the Roman Villa in Chedworth, one of the best preserved examples of Roman architecture and lifestyle in England.

This episode reminds me of another favorite show from across the pond, that being Time Team. These episodes here are the next best thing to going over to England and visiting these lovely places, and a great deal cheaper for folks like me that the trip would be a bit too pricey.

This was excellent. I am teaching adult education classes here in Scarborough Maine in the fall. The subject matter is a brief history of England , the monarchy, and what to do and see in the Cotswolds. I am having a tea with scones at the end of each class. All of your videos are so helpful Robin. Thank you!!

I've been a Metal detectorists since the mid 1970's, so I've found lots of coins and artefacts from the roman period.
Another really interesting video, thank you for showing Robin.

I remember visiting this place with my parents and brother in the 1980s. The mosaic tiled floor is something I remember very well. It was just along the road from where we lived (just outside Cricklade). Happy times. ❤

Yes, we are always lucky for the existence of The National Trust. Thanks for this brilliant combination - one cannot turn over a stone in England without uncovering history.

I’ve lived in The Cotswolds for 1/3 of a century and regularly visit the Chedworth Villa as part of my job, but I’ve never actually taken the time to pay a proper visit. Thank you Simon for once again reminding me how lucky I am to live here 😊

Delightful and informative tour of the beautifully preserved Roman villa in a magnifient setting at Chedworth. It was news to me that excavations are still continuing and have unearthed important archaeological remains from the post-Roman period. Thank you for a most enjoyable visit.

Robin thank you for sharing this wonderful place with all. Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the world as they knew it took a turn for the worse. In 536 AD, catastrophic climatic events compounded the problem.

Robin and Ross, I was in Glastonbury last week, not for the music festival but with a pal Siofra O'Donovan whose in the process of researching a project on Eleanor of Aquitaine. When you've finished with the Coswolds could you consider a wider exploration. I was in awe of the villages of Somerset and all the historical lore therein. Thanks again for your wonderful videos. From Ireland.

Robin, this must have been the heating system that was used in some of the big churches you were referring too. Connecting the dots so to speak!! Thanks!!! As you say, “Great fun!!!”😊

It would be interesting to know when the villa was abandoned. The villages nearby have early English (Anglo-Saxon) names, probably from the late 6th or early 7th century. So there may have been a period of coexistence.

Superb Robin! And maybe we should change the often quoted "Hail Cesar" to "Hail Claudius!" ( superbly portrayed by Derek Jacobi in the classic old BBC series "I, Claudius" ) ⚔🏛😊

@@osakarose5612 Yes, and Derek was in a recent series on the BBC too!
