She feels cold and empty and wants to fill her life with distractions to fill the void he left in her. That is what I love about Nana, how all the relationships and friendships shift and change just like in real life. It’s not always happy and like people who seem the perfect fit do not always get together. Ai Yazawa has this way of understanding humans that a lot of writers don’t get. I’d compare her to Murakami in that sense.

I have to comment...as it is the only thing I feel is right and what I can do to show my everlasting love for the song and the artist, Olivia Lufkin, who made this song. I found this song obviously like many people through NANA back in 2006, and have been consistently listening to this ever since. Other genres in my life, favorite artists, music and pieces have always shifted...and I only really listened to other music just for the nostalgic feel. Winter sleep and almost all of the album of NANA hits deeper than nostalgia. Being an adult right now working a 9-5 job...I swear it kills me. It's soul depraving as unfortunately it's not something which I really care about or do. I feel as if i'm losing myself. the dreams of yesterday have faded, and tomorrow only brings a repeat of what i had experienced today... but randomly just randomly my youtube auto playlist took me here and it filled me with much more than nostalgia. it reunited me with my younger self who had a head with dreams as high as the sky, and a heart with emotions as deep as the sea. it speaks volume of love, a love which after growing older which I seemed to lose ...but this song, olivia lufkin, trapnest/blast, nana, and of course ai yazawa has reignited the love which I thought I had lost - the love for oneself. While we're all going through our own journeys, struggles, and adventures...we will achieve our dreams. Just not in the ways we expect - just as how most of the events happened in NANA. The characters have gone through a lot, but I always notice they never let go of their original dream which they may have during a winter sleep...they keep living. Keep living and keep on dreaming

For me, this is more than just and ending. This is truly a masterpiece. Winter Sleep was love at first heard for me. Pure melancholy. As much as I love other animes endings like "waltz" by Suneohair in Honey and Clover or "stand by me" by Anna Tsuchiya in Nana and others songs that are not just "endings" but masterpiece songs. Winter Sleep from the first time I heard it and till forever will be above every other anime song (not just endings). The fact that they only use this song for like 2 episodes make Winter Sleep even more mystical. The 1 minute ending version of this song (less than the average ending length) was a perfect selection, it transmitted all the feeling of Reira. Winter Sleep is how an ending should be to be more than "just and ending"
