- On July 14, 1944, Hitler left the Obersalzberg and moved to his headquarters in Rastenburg in East Prussia. He is reported to have said, "I will either come back victorious or I will never see the mountain again."
In the US.Army attack order, the attack target was defined as follows:
Target A: Eagle's Nest on the Ober Kehl Alp (Kehlsteinhaus).
Target B: Wachenfels at the village of Obersalzberg.
Target A is at 2 miles South East if Berchtesgaden.
Target B is 2 miles East of Berchtesgaden.
25 April 1945 at 9:35 a.m. 380 Lancaster bombers of the Royal Airforce launched a 3-hour attack on the Obersalzberg.
Many of Hitler's art treasures were found in the bunkers. The Kehlsteinhaus remained largely unscathed thanks to its remote location. Almost the entire inventory was looted by the American soldiers. When the Americans returned the Obersalzberg to the Bavarian state in 1948, they made the demolition of the ruins of the Nazi grandeur a condition. In 1952, the ruins of the Berghof and the houses of Göring and Bormann were blown up and removed.

Ich war 1964 auf einer 3 wöchigen Kinder- und Jugendfreizeit in Hallein. Ich war damals 7 Jahre alt. Wir besuchten auf einem Tagesausflug den Berghof und ich erinnere mich an folgende Begebenheit: 2 unserer Betreuerinnen (Alter ca. 40-50) liefen vor mir her und tuschelten miteinander. Das interessierte mich natürlich. Die Eine voller Ehrfurcht: Stell dir vor auf diesen Fliesen stand der Führer! Die andere: psst, ich bekomme eine Gänsehaut!
Damals konnte ich es nicht einordnen!
Eine Woche später hieß es: Wir machen einen Tagesausflug mit dem Bus nach Simbach am Inn. Von dort überquerten wir eine Brücke und waren plötzlich in Braunau am Inn. Wir blieben vor einem Haus stehen und die beiden tuschelten wieder. Auch das empfand ich damals als komisch.
Erst Jahre später ging mir ein Licht auf.
Interessante Geschichte. Sie ist wohl ziemlich bezeichnend für das Nachkriegsdeutschland, in dem viele Nazigrößen noch mal Karriere machen konnten oder ein unbeschwertes Leben führten. Das funktionierte nur, weil sie mitten unter ihren Bewunderern lebten.
@@fdsfsdfsfd Was mir noch einfällt: Beide waren Angestellte des hiesigen Stadtjugendamtes! Weiterhin wurden wir nicht über den Grund des Ausflugs, noch darüber was wir da sahen oder über einen geschichtlichen Hintergrund aufgeklärt.
Die wurden bestimmt ganz feucht dabei, die Nazischrullas.

@@Murfi57 Die Reste wurden vor einigen Jahren entfernt, weil immer noch viele Ewiggestrige im Wald herumstolperten auf Trümmersuche.
Die Bunkeranlage, die du meinst, ist vom Hotel zum Türken aus begehbar und gehört den Hoteleigentümern.

I was in Bechtesgaden 3 months ago and i saw all those places. Berghof seen in 0:05 - its all forest now; nothing left here but retaining wall.

Hitler got it as a present for his 50th birthday but was actually only up there three times as he wasn't comfortable with heights.

Also erstens ist das im Bild am Anfang nicht der Berghof sondern das Kehlsteinhaus welches die Partei, also die NSDAP, unter Federfuehrung von Parteisekretaer Martin Bormann dem Fuehrer zum Geburtstag schenkte und zweitens steht das immer noch und ist so viel ich weiss heute eine Jugendherberge
Heute eine Ausflugsgaststätte. Von Hitler und Co. wurde es als Gästehaus genutzt.

From this footage, it looks like the huge grand piano in the Berghof drawing room might have survived reasonably intact. presumably it was buried in the rubble when the building was demolished later.

The berghof was his home. The other place you are showing was not his home and a gift for his birthday. Rarely visited. It remains today. The berghof was damaged on the second to last bombing mission of the war then detonated in 1952.

When did the word reasonable ever appear alongside the name adolf hitler in the same sentence? He pinned all his hopes on defeating the soviet union quickly. He reasoned controlling that much territory and resources would give him everything he needed for a long drawn out war with the USA and brits. There would be no blockade and starvation of germany like ww1 as it would be self sufficient and democracies simply wouldnt be able to tolerate the casualties they would undoubtedly have to sustain to liberate all the territory Germany would control. And also they would have to fight japan too in asia pacific. It was a huge gamble and when his armies were stopped outside moscow he knew he was in deep shit.
@@leonpaul9443 I agree, the only way he would have defeated the Soviets is by capturing the oil fields in the Caucases. A two prompt attack on Moscow and Southern Russia perhaps would have done the job had the Germans attacked in spring 1941 leaving Leningrad to be captured by the Finns. Moreover, the Germans should have coordinated their efforts with the Japanese attacking the far east, therefore no Siberian divisions to relieve Moscow. Then, Hitler shouldn't have declared war on the United States. With the Soviets defeated, there would have been a revolution in Britain eventually and the incoming government would have sued for peace with Hitler. This is the best case scenario for an Axis victory. Its either that or negotiation with the Soviets as per the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact or a modified version of it in 1940.
There was never intention to fight France or invade Britain, the Germans had experienced what Communism had done on its own streets and Lenin had promised western Europe the Bolshevik steamroller, Roosevelt even offered Stalin the full deportation of all Estonians and the NKVD had deported about a million to the Gulags most never returned, Latvia had experienced much the same and one small segment of the Latvian roundly applauded the arrival of "their bretheren", read Donald Day's "Onward Christian Soldiers" of his time as a staff journalist in inter war Latvia, even Churchill had said in 1936 that the push to war was quite deliberate, it was nothing about "fighting Fascism", it was about securing economic hegemony, just as now, what do you imagine that "Covid", "vaccines", and "the war in Ukraine" are about, the same thing!
