I've moved over to water based to avoid the smell of lacquer thinners John. I use Stynylrez primer (with a few drops of flow improver) and I've tried most brands of water based paints. My favourite is AK 3rd Gen, goes down really well and the colour matches are good. I use a thinner mix of 70% flow improver to 30% thinner and then add 10% retarder to that - and I don't really have any tip drying or clogging issues. I thin AK3G 60% paint to 40% thinner mix. Most of the others are better at 80% paint and 20% mixture. Hataka can even go 90% paint. I spray at around 16-18 PSI and keep the coats thin with a bit of drying in between. I've used the Atom paints for brush painting but haven't tried spraying them yet as I mostly do RAF aircraft and they haven't released a colour set for that yet.
Just to add, all the paints I tested also clean up really easily with just hot water. For the airbrush I then just quickly backflush and run through a little acrylic airbrush cleaner.
I did a bit of brush painting with it afterwards and it brushed on nicely. Not sure if they're anything special, just something different to try I guess. 👍
Hi John, Great video. I had heard of these, but you are the first I've seen actually use them. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

How was the Brush Painting for Atom Paints? recommended? thx.
@@southpaw5483 Yes, it went on well and levelled nicely. Finish seems nice and tough too.

Great detail for such a small scale.
Indeed Paul...They're fantastic kits.

Supposedly you can use these as a primer. I’d love to see someone test that.
