Chicago was criminally underrated. This version really allows you to see and hear how so much is going on in their tunes. A perfect pop song, great memories of '72.
Would like to publicly thank my college room mate -Gary L of St Louis-for turning me on to Chicago, He had Chicago I and II.
Chicago was never underrated. They are ranked the #1 American Band in Billboard Chart history and overall #4 only behind the Beatles , the Rolling Stones , and the Bee Gees. There is no crime , and no one is doing time. They have sold over 100 million records, and one of the Longest running , best selling groups of ALL TIME!! They have not been underrated to repeat myself. Still great memories though :) And a great video and a great tribute to Chicago!!!

As a former drummer, growing up with the music of the 60's and 70's, I have never heard a band cover songs better than Leonid and Friends. They are perfectly orchestrated and you can see they truly enjoy what they're doing which takes them to a whole other level! Thank you one and all!

I've seen Chicago twice (80's and 90's) and Leonid and Friends twice. Honestly, I'd go see Leonid and Friends first from now on. Don't get me wrong; Chicago was great too
Seriously. Every time I hear the original now, great as it is, I feel bad because I secretly wish I were hearing this cover instead.. I can count on one hand the number of songs that's true for. And none of those others were absolute classics in the original. This is unique.
Every tribute song they've covered was just as good or better than the originals. I know we all hate comparing Iconic bands to others covering them is forbidden. But as an adult I've come to grips that our heroes often fall to someone better than them

I CANNOT stop watching & listening to this group! Since I ‘discovered’ them, here on TH-cam, 2 weeks ago I’ve played their entire catalog over & over (& over ...). As both a vocalist & horn player growing up in the ‘60s & ‘70’s in America I was obsessed with the great horn bands like Chicago; Blood Sweat & Tears; Earth, Wind & Fire, et. al.. I marvel at the exquisite musicianship displayed by all of these immensely talented people and only wish I could could ‘sit in’ with them!
Leonid’s ability to cipher these tracks - BY EAR - is reminiscent of the scene in ‘Amadeus’ (movie about Mozart) where Mozart hears Salieri’s march played once by the Emperor Joseph II ... which leads to Mozart sitting down and playing it and then running many variations off with ease.
Okay, back to the present from my obscure movie reference ... Leonid & Friends musicianship, obvious passion and enjoyment of playing keystone music from my youth has brought tremendous joy to me in what has been (like so many I suspect) one of the most difficult years of my 60 year-old life! (2020)
I am a disabled Veteran living in chronic pain and fatigue from Parkinson’s disease. My medical providers encouraged me to return to my musical & artistic youthful endeavors for ‘Neuroplasticity’ ... and it’s been one of the most effective means of pushing back on chronic pain and keeps me from falling into the twin abyss of dopamine deficiency induced Anxiety & Depression.
I, however, hit a very rough spot, 3 months ago and stopped painting and playing my music. That is ...
UNTIL I heard Leonid & Friend’s opening riffs of Chicago’s “Make Me Smile”. ... which, in a profound way they did!
Thank you so very much to all of you in Leonid & Friends for returning music, joy and hope back into my life!

Thanks for that awesome comment about drummers! I have been a drummer for over 40 years. Never had a lesson. It is definitely something you have or ya don’t. A God given talent to play any instrument very good. I can play any percussion instrument in the world but couldn’t even begin to play any other instrument in that amazing band. Thanks again!

God They sound so good, The guitarist exactly sounds like Terry Kath!!! I mean it's uncanny how close these guys got... I like how they honored the song, they didn't change any riffs up or anything just pure tribute to the AMazing Chicago
@@eddiemelikian2440 I think what that is...superior modern studio technology. I don't actually think they are better than Chicago, but they do have better sound men and production engineers now a days compared to the early 70s

As a drummer I TELL you the drummer is TERRIBLE.. those flurries of snare and tom and the end og each phrasing.. the People fouting people laughing is a solid drumming solo..
@@mickavellian You must have heard another drum track. This guy (Igor) is as solid as an anvil and has the feel for Danny Seraphine possibly better than Danny himself. I'm a drummer too and know how good both players are. Check out other Leonid & Friends covers then decide.

@@mikecee578 Yes they were. We can fully appreciate Leonid and Friends (they're phenomenal) without underestimating Chicago. If you all think that playing these songs is hard (which is the case with many of them), add writing, arranging/orchestrating them to that equation. Chicago's writing is beyond phenomenal, and so is its musicianship. I love Leonid and Friends...saw them live in Annapolis a couple of years ago. However, Chicago was just as good live AND they wrote and arranged all of these tunes.

Yes, it really is. I have worked on Grammy nominated records my Barry Manilow, produced by the amazing producer, Michael Lloyd. Between them they have a couple of lifetimes making records, so I have a basis of comparison. You guys are remarkable. I would LOVE to see you in person some time. Las Vegas baby ;-) Who knows, I imagine if you came to this city, you would work as much as you wanted. Well, Play, right ;-) Thank you for your efforts!

I was in my teens in the seventies. Chicago’s music was played loud. We smiled. We were happy. We definitely sang along with them. Leonid and Friends is the best cover. I dare say, even better!
They are touring the US now. June 2024. Saw them a month ago. The best classics.

It seems the genius in Leonid is in his ear and memory. He has the profound talent of being able to reduce the original to a musical score, *where there was none*, thereby making it repeatable. Then able to assemble the master musicians with the gifts to make it so.

Each member in the band reaches the highest level of performance for every song. Never seen such skill and execution by a group in a very long time. I play all songs I can find over and over and it just gets better with every play.

Leonid, I have been a Chicago fan since 1969 & the Chicago Transit Authority days. Of All the Chicago classics & I love them all. You so honored the immortal Robert Lamm with this one & I sincerely hope that Robert, Lee, Jimmy & Walt could hear what you've done with so much authenticity, homage to their 'sound', reverence & love for the music of Chicago.

As a musician and singer, I fell in love with Leonid and friends, not just because they are fabulous musicians, but it makes me reflect on how blessed we are in America to celebrate music, and the world celebrates with us!

As someone who grew up listening to Chicago, saw Chicago live several times while Terry Kath was still alive, and who still goes to see them live when they're in my area, my hat's off to your group. The vocals are right there, the instrumentals are letter perfect., but most importantly, the fun, the spirit, and the joy of Chicago was present, in a way that Chicago itself struggles to deliver these days.

Humbling. I was never a huge fan of Chicago but from watching this I now see what I've missed. Whoever's managing the Chicago franchise should put these guys on the payroll. They've woken me to what I missed. Truly impressive - both the original arrangements and the meticulous execution by Leonid & Friends. Btw, I've seen Chicago live several times and still didn't "get" them until now.

I was watching some videos from Hindley Street Country Club from Adelaide Australia doing cover songs, and theres "If You Leave me now" by Leonid, my favourite during late teens. Am 61 now, Wow, your band just blew me away, the accuracy almost Note to Note !

I am a lifelong musician, played with world famous people from symphony orchestras to blues bands in sketchy bars. I have seen performances from Beijing to Copenhagan. I have never seen a better performance in every sense. Personal warmth, joy, skill, taste. Excellence.
This entire friggin band is phenomenal. I haven’t heard them play anything by Chicago that wasn’t dead on. If you want to hear them cover a song and wonder if they dubbed the original singers and players over their video, watch the cover of September, by Earth, Wind, and Fire. I couldn’t believe how good they are.
