      I still gave you a thumbs up. Even though it’s almost like listening to the golf. At the same time there is so much in general loud and irritating people at work or when you come home or even when you’re just out at the supermarket as I struggle to contain myself when moms have their kids and they’re all screaming or asking for what they want and the mom is doing her best but of course with a raised voice and I’m just thinking how the hell can I get out of here fast enough!

      @@mikepattberg25 I really do enjoy storms because I love everything that goes on in the sky, it’s a little bit of a obsession however I never would want anybody to be damaged by any storm because the aftermath really does break my heart.

    I have a huge fear of bad storms and tornados. I can keep calm enough to make sure I’m safe, even when driving. But serious anxiety gets even when the wind picks up too strong. Your videos seriously help! From being more knowledgeable on tornados and getting to observe them calmly it just helps in so many ways. The way you capture them is beautiful. Thank you!

    As someone from a very tornado prone area (love Oklahoma, am I right?) tornadoes have always been a terrifying but fascinating thing. Most storm chasers are really annoying, but I love watching you because you're able to give the storm life and a personality. You and your videos are truly wonderful!

    • @markwarren7116
      @markwarren7116 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because most storm chaser’s don’t have the experience like Hank does and the patients. Most chasers I have seen want to be the first there and don’t care about anyone else’s safety. I have seen too many accidents because of selfish untrained chasers.

    Aloha Hank! I found out who you were from an interview you were on about tornadoes for a t.v. show on the weather channel today. From .56-58, a giant, menacing demon-like face is forming in the tornado, looking straight down to earth, it has thick lips, a flat nose, and a single horn on its head, at .58, it opens its mouth in a giant yell, closes its eye at .59, and disappears into the swirl....great, awe inspiring footage!!

    Brilliant shot at 4:49. Having seen your great videos with Dr Leigh Orf, I assume that what we're seeing here is the tornado weakening and splitting into two regions of coalescing subvortices, as whatever conditions cause vorticity to 'select' a single point temporarily dissipate. It looks like they merge later in the shot, but then it cuts away! Really fascinating footage

    05:15 That’s two tornados, one within the other-Matryoshka vortexes/tornados. The outer, upper, wedge/wide-shaped vortex is a condensation (conden) driven tornado. It is driven by the release of latent heat by water vapor condensing on condensation nuclei (CCN). Condens have their “engines” in the lower and warmer part of their storm/mesocyclone (meso).
    If not enough CCN is available for the conden to condense all available water vapor, excess water vapor passes up to the upper and colder part of the meso. There it may form a deposition (depo) driven tube or stovepipe-shaped tornado. A depo tornado’s “engine” is fueled by the latent heat released by the direct transition of supercooled water vapor to ice.
    The oscillating lower, inner, tornado seen here is a depo tornado.
    From 06:10 to 06:30 It appears that the lower depo tornado’s “engine” is growing stronger. The upper conden is about the same, maybe even shrunk some. Very cool.
    By 06:55 the lower depo dominates. Watch as the upper conden shrinks. The CCN has just about run out-for now-so much less condensation takes places lower down leaving more water vapor for the depo tornado’s “engine.”

    I have a great idea for you. Buy a long range microphone and mount it on a tripod and capture the sound of a tornado. Some of these are called "Shotgun Microphones". Others are mounted in the center of a parabolic reflector. You might have to make a type of umbrella to shield it from rain and you would need to glue some sound absorbing material to the underside of it.

    Ambient sound of the Tornado at ~ 6:00 is awesome and unnerving. There is a visceral reaction to the menace it adds to the images. Sound is the missing element in most tornado videos, because of talking, recording from the interior of a car or-get this-music. Well done, Pecos Hank.

      YES! And it's eerily reminiscent of the tornado sound from "The Wizard of Oz"--in retrospect I'm impressed all over again with that scene, which still actually spooks me quite a lot. Another video where you can really hear the tornado is one of the videos from the Tuscaloosa tornado of 2011--the one recorded by two dudes who were just hanging out when the tornado came and tore the roof off their house, with them barely getting down to the basement in time. Amazing, menacing sounds in that one, recommended.
