I worked at Wheldale from 15 to 37 years of age the canteen baked fresh bread daily the smell across the pit yard on a cold frosty morning was to die for the canteen was famous for their "growlers" a secret recipe for their Cornish pasties hot gravy required to soften the crusts lol, bless the lads and lasses who past this way
@@DonkeyDave269 he was born in Longford Ireland and came over to work down the mines at 14 before the war, he married and had 3 children and settled in Airedale then glasshoughton, my other grandad also was a miner at fryston pit...I will subscribe to your channel Dave, all the best mate 👍
@@DonkeyDave269 yes mate his family still has the farm in Longford, he had 14 brothers and 3 sisters and he didn’t even tell his family he was going to England he left a note as there wasn’t enough work there for them all, so he came over to make a life but never forgot his roots and went over to visit all through his life...Loving the contact from some proper Yorkshire miners, have a good day lads 🇬🇧
