Episode 9 - Ghosts in Java

Ghost stories and encounters with spirits are common in nearly every part of the world. In Java, Indonesia, almost every other person has had a paranormal experience and it inspired Li Kim to find out more about these folk beliefs. Why is there a belief that when a pregnant woman dies, her spirit becomes an angry ghost because she can’t fulfill her wishes to be a mother and they transform to be a Pontianak/Kuntilanak? Why are negative attributes given to female spirits when the female energy is known to be loving and nurturing? In this episode, Li Kim speaks to two Dukun (shamans) who claim to perform rituals to invoke female spirits to prove their existence. Are these spiritual meetings real? Can the invisible make their presence felt and seen?
