Expensive? Here in Portugal they cost just a little over the regular D'Addario strings and much less than other "hyped-up" brands. And I have to say, they're the best strings I've ever used!
Link Freeman 3-6$? I wish i could get strings so cheap. A regular pack of D'Addario is around 9$ and NYXL are also around 12$. Elixir for example would be at least 16$
Andrei, that more or less the same they cost here: 13€ for the NYXL and 9-10€ for the normal sets. When I bought my last set of NYXL's, the Elixir's cost 21€! O_o
People salty they can't see his fingers like it makes a difference, you ain't going to learn swybrid picking, odd time signatures and thumping just by watching, gotta put In the work
Tosin Abas is an amazing virtuoso band Animals As Leaders. Their two guitar approach with drums (each guitarist can play bass notes) is unique, beautiful, heartfelt and technically challenging
That's literally perfect what he said. It's exactly how I feel on it. An extension of your voice, and feels unnatural at first, and feels more and more natural!
These strings are fucking amazing. Only strings I’ll use until I find something better. The difference is HUGE! Especially when you’ve got a standard neck but need tension for lower tunings, these are the strings.
It's cool hearing Tosin show more of the expressive/soulful side of his playing. Would be cool to be able to see his hands though. Same atmosphere with a touch more light would have been ideal.
I love that he's kind of shying away from the whole Axe-FX thing and going back to traditional amps. I mean, I have no hate for the digital amp modelling thing, it's come a very, very long way since my old RP200, and it's starting to sound just about on-par with a "real" amp, but I guess I'm just a bigger fan of that whole old-school tech mentality and it makes me giddy to see such a modern guitarist embrace it.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I think the Axe FX and Kemper and Helix stuff is great for touring. One of my favourite bands, Pain of Salvation, did a tour where their guitar rigs were nothing but their instruments and some Helix floor units, and it sounded great. Like I said, I have no hatred for digital amp modelling. :)
The Axe Fx II is well built, but it has its place. Periphery, for example, uses it to instantly switch their tone and sound through MIDI programs so that they dont need a pedal board. Doing that also makes things less complicated for the band's performances, although they sacrifice the organic sound of a real cab.
NYXL strings are so good for almost anything. I use different Daddario strings for my Hollow body guitars, Jazz Strings for my Godin 5th ave guitar (has a wound g string and are like a mix between acoustic and electric strings), and Light round wound chrome strings for my hollow body guitar. I think these, even the light ones are some of the strongest strings ever. They are worth the price. One of my friends bent his strings like 1 and a half steps so many times and they didn't brake. I remember someone broke some strings in a performance at the music school I go to just because he was playing hard and I was like what strings do you use and he was like, I go for the cheap ones or something like that. Some people don't notice a difference between these and older daddario types of strings, but I have good ears and notice a slight difference.
So is Tosin Abasi using NYXL strings? What's his opinion? I think they sound great just seems vague on what's trying to be communicated. I'd like to see flatwound NY steel strings someday! that'd be so awesome. ---as a side note.
...from a D'Addario email I clicked the TH-cam link on, NYXL Strings Tosin plays a custom set of NYXL strings on his 8-string Ibanez. You can build your own custom set as well with over 70 single strings and 23 sets to choose from.
not only do they sound great, they are specifically designed to resist breaking when you whammy like crazy, which is why Adrian Belew, The Twang Bar King, uses them. I whammy the crap out of them and. they. do. not. break. And they sound fantastic
Tosin did a Clinic in Chicago the other day, and he said that NYXL are his favorite strings. He said he was using 9 1/2 gauge strings on the 8 string he had there.
Chris Jackson Oh I really do. see... you don't understand. I was born with a rare birth defect, and the doctor could only describe as something he would've seen in a Tim Burton movie. As he pulled me out of my mothers stomach the confusion set in on everyone's faces. It wasn't until further inspection that they realized what they had witnessed... I was born with picks for fingers. That would be great and all if I had one normal hand for the fret board, but god's cruel joke was to darn tootin birth me with picks for fingers while also making it my destiny to shred. The only thing I can play is the intro to Nothing Else Matters, but only the first four measures on repeat. It gets so old, and I guess I could tune two guitars to two different chords, but what's the fun in strumming one open chord and alternating between two guitars? So as you can see, I'd do anything... ANYTHING to play like Tosin Abasi. I'd get on my knees on a pile of razors and used needles to suck that fuckin cock. I'd let him cum wasps all over my face. I'd sell him my soul to let me live out my destiny and return back to hell to be a sex slave for all of eternity. I would take it up the ass by a footlong demon cock with a 6 inch girth for eternity just to play like Tosin. That's how badly god has fucked me. The irony of being born with picks for fingers has been a burden I can hardly bare...
So I see all these other guys making videos about some Ernie guy. I tried those and broke one while stretching, which means I have to send them back for a replacement. I'll tell you though they stay in tune nicely, even when compared to the regular slinkies. I have a set of NYXLs in the back burner for myself and I put them on my brother's guitar yesterday. They felt silky smooth. We'll see.
Maybe Daddario is doing a series with guitarist playing songs using their strings? otherwise it doesn't seem to be a "review." If it's a performance series then that's great IMO.
Yeah, as much as I love him and daddario, you'd think someone would be like, "hey maybe we shouldn't make it so dark, ya know, so we can actually see his hands?"
This guy is straight up just one of the greatest guitar players of this generation.
*all time
Actually, yea. Tosin is gonna be remembered throughout history
He looks like a Djedi
HAHAHAHA made my fucking day
Are you blind? He is Djedi
dresses like a Jedi, on the set of TRON Legacy, musical Genius
kyle grossi I think you mean, “Deressed like a Jedi”.
Is this why they are so expensive? So i can see Tosin play in Tron?
LOL in Tron +10
Expensive? Here in Portugal they cost just a little over the regular D'Addario strings and much less than other "hyped-up" brands. And I have to say, they're the best strings I've ever used!
they usually cost around twice as much here in the states, they're pretty consistently $12 for a set and normals are anywhere from $3-6 for a set
Link Freeman 3-6$? I wish i could get strings so cheap. A regular pack of D'Addario is around 9$ and NYXL are also around 12$. Elixir for example would be at least 16$

"THIS SHIT'S INSTRUCTIONAL"
"FACES WILL BE MELTED
..BRAHH"
The looped riff is a variation of a 5/8 groove from "Inner Assassins"
Sam Haupt yesss!!
It isn't 5/8 it's 4/4
They use stresses (i dont know if it's ok)
Sam Haupt It is in 6/8 if i am not wrong
You're wrong lol ^
2:49 is literally that moment you have no control over shifting your volume from from 5 to 50
The music world needs more like him.... not enough jazz in metal and rock....
JN Woodard The whole prog-metal/djent side of metal is fully jazz inspired though. More so now than before I'd say too. Just my opinion though
The force is strong with Tosin... so strong that he can bend strings and musical notes to his will.
This dude is a legend in my book. He is just so awesome. The way he plays is greater than extraordinary.
Damn Tosin looking like Luke Skywalkers dark skinned side.
lordrichvaca dass raycys
Tosin is the dark side, and his guitar skills are what powered the Death Star.
i always knew he was alien but i thought he would never reveal his spaceship
DJEDI?
Walter Nievas 😂😂😂awesome dude
nice name, racist
youre on the wrong side of history
don't cut yourself on that edge, kid
Engelbert Twinkleton ???
People salty they can't see his fingers like it makes a difference, you ain't going to learn swybrid picking, odd time signatures and thumping just by watching, gotta put In the work
Tosin Abas is an amazing virtuoso band Animals As Leaders. Their two guitar approach with drums (each guitarist can play bass notes) is unique, beautiful, heartfelt and technically challenging
Tosin is a master, I love listening and watching him. Dude is a national treasure and not enough people know it.
That's literally perfect what he said. It's exactly how I feel on it. An extension of your voice, and feels unnatural at first, and feels more and more natural!
I wish there was more of this sound! The heavier stuff is great, but I can listen to this all day.
When you successfully completed all the assignments for Shang Tsung and finally found some time to play the guitar
Why is this man so good, he's sapping the talent from the rest of us
It's no joke theese strings are amazing. 👌
this guy is impessing me more and more as a player,...he seems to be embracing many more styles,......sounds great!
0:50 - 0:54 is how a candelight dinner with bae should sound like
I have never heard that inner assassins Rift that clean before it sounds so beautiful
Tosin has arrived at some higher level of guitar playing that many of us will never achieve. Stay humble!
This guy is just amazing 🙌🏾
These strings are fucking amazing. Only strings I’ll use until I find something better. The difference is HUGE! Especially when you’ve got a standard neck but need tension for lower tunings, these are the strings.
To me he's like my generations new Steve Vai he's so amazing!
Wow! Talent, sensitivity and attitude wrapped up in musical ability. This man is destined.
This is gold i'm speechless..
When You tour with Plini.. You tend to get Pliniterized... And then end up composing such beautiful mellow music..!! awesome..Tosin is a genius...!!
Soo wonderful it's very calming in a weird way
It's cool hearing Tosin show more of the expressive/soulful side of his playing. Would be cool to be able to see his hands though. Same atmosphere with a touch more light would have been ideal.
Love Tosin. He's so awesome.
tosin you are the real abasi ma man. great musician

touring with an axe fx vs and amp though, pretty much a lot of the reasons why they use it

Thumbs up for PoS- they don't seem to get enough love.

a lot of prog sounds better when its not organic in a way too though
I need this as a track on the next album!!!
Pure Bliss
Remarkably restrained for Tosin. I like it.

Sweet laser tag arena
He is a true treasure
Amazing setting!
This man always has me lost for words
Dad?
Tosin and I are on the NYXL train! Get yourself one today!
no doubt!
jazz and classical guitar fusion. cool
Best strings without a doubt. No question. The reason other brands don't don't to A/B them is because are simply superior.
So is Tosin Abasi using NYXL strings? What's his opinion? I think they sound great just seems vague on what's trying to be communicated.

Omnesia Band I agree they sound great. I didn't know about the resistance to breaking . Good to know.

TOSIN ABASI USES THESE STRINGS.
I love Tosin. I'd suck satan's sceptic serpent shaft to play like him. That doesn't make sense but I wanted to make that hard to read.
TheSamuraiApocalypse idki thought it was pretty poetic myself
berkah89 oh you like that?prickly purple pickle perky perilla picker, that's a horrible one. Fuck I can't think of another one
So... practice? Then you won't really have to suck Satan's shaft.
Chris Jackson Oh I really do. see... you don't understand. I was born with a rare birth defect, and the doctor could only describe as something he would've seen in a Tim Burton movie. Incredible!
Mace Windu is that you?
The quote is about challenging his hands and fingers and his face is the only thing that is lit.
2:50 my godddd
Dude keep doing shit better and better
That was beautiful.
those fishman pickups are on another level
so sick
Awesome sound !
Uffff. Such flavor.
this was beautiful
Amazing!!!
I want both the guitar and the 8 string pack of NYXL's please! Thanks.
Sick!
Legend......
This can solve my math homework.
Some of the noodling reminds me of the jam at the beginning of John Petrucci's Rock Discipline DVD.
Ever Upward. We are going to win the League this year!
great!!
HOLY FUCK!!! He's like he's from the future! This is amazing.
Tosin is the real Last Jedi.
A god...
I️ love this video of him
Awsome!!!
Looks like a dual rec but is that an AX8 on the floor? P.S. NYXLs on all my guitars.
awesome
What an fucking excellent video
That strident bass note in the loop distracts me so much! Still this is a cool video. Love Tosin.
His guitar tech must be top-tier. Seems like if you slacked the truss rod an eighth turn the entire guitar would just explode.
Maybe Daddario is doing a series with guitarist playing songs using their strings? otherwise it doesn't seem to be a "review." If it's a performance series then that's great IMO.
the goat of prog
nice video production my god
T0000SIN!!!
Remember kids. If you use these strings, you still can't play like this.
Jedi master Tosin
He's become more powerful than any d'jedi
hopefully ill be this good one day
Sure would be nice to actually see him playing.
Hahahahah
Yeah, as much as I love him and daddario, you'd think someone would be like, "hey maybe we shouldn't make it so dark, ya know, so we can actually see his hands?"
heath dobrich Thats the joke dickwad
Really tho.
"Sure would be nice to actually see him playing." But this way we get to see the distribution of skin oils on his face. That's just as good, right?
WHAT AAL SONG IS 1:43 FROM? IT'S BUGGING ME SO MUCH
My nyxls were too short for my 8 strings, I was so sad when they couldn't fit.
Sicarius Bladehart nyxl makes extended 8 string sets man! Go get em!
Thanks alot dude, I did not know what.
Tosin stay dressin like a Jedi or secret agent in all these videos
So if I buy these strings? Will I be able to play like this
Aaron Anderson yes
Tosin looks like a jedi
What string gauge and tuning does he use?
Smoooooth....loop
