The Golden age of cartoon animation brings back good memories and unforgettable moments in animation history that never should be erased. Bugs bunny is one of my favourite characters and always will be. I came across this title “buccaneer bunny that debuted In (1948) few days ago, I haven’t seen this animated short before but this is my first time watching as Yosemite Sam sailing to the island on a ship that kinda looks like the flying Dutchman to bury his treasure, but gets tortured by bugs because he disturbed him throwing gold down in the rabbit hole thats, also his home.

As this film came out almost 20 years prior to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland and 65 years before the first film, it might be better to say Pirates referenced Buccaneer Bunny instead of the other way around. Both Buccaneer Bunny and Curse of the Black Pearl reference a long tradition of pirate and naval themes including music that sounds nautical (just like some music sounds cowboy) and common piratical dialog. That's why all these movies feel familiar, it's the tropes.
This is a classic episode and one of the best cartoons will never be made like this ever again
There is just something about the way that Sam says 'varmint' that just speaks to my soul.

I remember this episode when I was a kid and I laughed a lot when Yosemite grot his teeth so hard and the match throwing. One of my all time favorite Bugs Bunny episode. Great reaction! I truly enjoyed the history lesson and nostalgia bringing the inner child in me.

The bit where Bugs blows the ship up, and bits and pieces drop onto the beach, alongside a whole section of deck where Bugs and Sam are still standing. Never fails to crack me up.
The nautical tune is the "Sailor's Hornpipe", famous on Popeye, and a thousand other shows. Mike Oldfield played it at the end of his "Tubular Bells" album.

The music over the title and opening credits is a traditional sailors' hornpipe, which does indeed also appear in Popeye cartoons. :-)

@@dunlopgreenwood2642 And the rest of it is known as "The Merry Go Round Broke Down." Daffy Duck performed a good three or four verses of it in one of his early cartoons. And then Roger Rabbit later did it as well.

This is one of my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons and I love the stairs scene it makes me laugh every single time.

Foghorn Leghorn is by far my favorite classic cartoon character! That bird is the best at talking smack like a gentleman haha!

Ya know who the unsung heroes of these cartoons are? The sound effects people. I think the technical terms is Foley Artist. The lighted matches, walking up the steps, splashing water, sharks biting. Amazing work for the period.
The "pepeye theme" is actually called "The Sailor's Hornpipe."
That cartoon is my favorite, I can just hear Yosemite Sam Everytime "blow his stack" when Bugs Bunny is involved with whatever antics is happening.

I'm just surprised that sam keeps getting blasted by the cannon despite the third part he thinks there was a cannon on the left as he checked it smart move but the cannon was on the right where he was standing since bugs is smarter than sam and the cannon on the 4 doors like out of nowhere 😂

6:36- Carl Stalling uses "When My Dreamboat Comes Home" to underscore the "door chase".
Yeah, we call him Yosemite Sam today... but, originally he was just plain Sam. In this particular cartoon he identifies himself as "Sea- going Sam."
i think theres another version of this, it might just be another with similar scenes. But the throwing the matches gag, in the one I remember the sign says 'powder room' not gun powder. After the third one, Sam runs away and Bugs opens the door, grins at the camera. We see a view of a ladies powder room (makeup table and such), Bugs says "talcum powder doesn't explode" and ,,, boom,, hes flying thru the air saying.. "I could be wrong".
There's two more: "Mutiny on the Bunny (1948)" and "Captain Hareblower (1954)"
Technically, yes, talcum powder can explode.

There was a lot of references to a film called mutiny on the Bounty, and this was made way before pirates of the Caribbean came out a lot of pirate stuff Pirates of the Caribbean borrowed what was already popular about pirates such as 15 men on a dead man’s chest comes from treasure Island, which is a book about pirates
