    Do you think there is a replacement steering gear better than the Red Head on the market?

      I hear Blue Top are direct competitors to the Red Head

      I read some about Blue Top as well. I haven't seen anyone that hasn't liked the Blue Top steering gears. More the merrier, competition is good. It keeps manufactures honest and quality high. I haven't had any issues with my Red Head, but I think either one of these companies are upgrades from OEM units.

      100% psc sells a better box. Completely new not remanufactured, but you’ll pay for it.

      @@tatersalad3.7 With PSC's background in extreme off road applications, I think they would make a great product. If I ever need another box, I will probably try them out.

      I’m hoping to get a blue top within the next month or so. I’m so sick of this Napa POS reman they gave me, worse than it was before

    Thank you, that was very detailed. I’ve needed to do something like this because I’ve had and issue since I bought it….. Don’t know if it’s the pump or the head unit, but I’d need to replace one or both. High regards,

    Any updates on how it’s holding up? It seems like recently a lot of people have had issues with the RedHead boxes not lasting very long before developing leaks or prematurely wearing out. Fantastic video, by the way. 👌

      Before installing it, my steering was sloppy. Now it's good, no leaks and I don't even think about it anymore. I would still recommend. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Did you notice better turning at a complete stop? I want to replace my factory box. The issues i have are when backing up my 20ft centurion ski boat, it's a pain to maneuver the steering while applying the brakes sense they all work off the power steering. I got an 03 3500 dually 8ft bed, trucks a tank lol

      I didn't have increased turning power at a complete stop with the Redhead Steering Gear. GM and aftermarket companies have made "high flow" power steering pumps to increase turning power to help with slow speed maneuvering like backing up trailers.

      Do you feel like the Kryptonite steering components made a noticeable difference or more so replacing the steering gear itself?

    • @grumpyvetgarage
      @grumpyvetgarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ryllyduc1198 The replacement of my Kryptonite steering components happened a year before I replaced my steering gear. The Kryptonite parts tightened up a completely worn out front end that was causing tire wear issues. The Red Head Steering Gear tightened up the "dead spot" in the steering that floats from Left to Right.
      To summarize, the steering gear repairs steering control issues and the suspension/steering components repair control issues effecting ride quality and tire wear.
      I hope that answered your question.

      @@grumpyvetgarage Absolutely that's helps a lot thank you sir. The "dead spot" is what I experiences, it's not terrible especially considering it has a 6" lift and 35's but I'd like to get it as close to perfect as possible with little to no dead spot anymore. Sounds like the steering gear is my best bet to start with.

    How do you know of the pitman arm is going in the correct orientation? Is the gear box straight from the factory or is there a way to make sure it’s centered before installing the pitman arm? I missed that part on the video…

    • @grumpyvetgarage
      @grumpyvetgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The gear box comes centered from Redhead. I did check center off camera. It sucks to manually turn the box lock to lock and check, but it was centered from Redhead. There are "Master" splines on the steering gear to locate the pitman arm orientation. Use the master splines to orient the pitman arm the direction it was on the old gear box.
      Hope this answered your question.

      I had to leave everything loose, including the box mount bolts on the frame rail and the connection on the hydro boost. Give yourself as much play as possible. Once all the threads are started then you should be able to tighten fittings and then the box mount bolts.
