Nixon is an okay guy in my book.
Back in the day I had a paper to do in high school and it was about decisions made during his time in office.
As a goof I composed and sent him a letter that had some really hard questions about his time in office.
My teacher gave me an ‘A’ simply for the composition of the letter and my ballsy attempt to personally contact the former president.
A few weeks later I got the shock of my life when a large envelope from San Simeon, CA arrived in my mailbox. Not only was it a letter answering my questions point by point and signed by the president he also included a signed photograph in the package!
Replying to a crazy kid with tough questions was a real class move. Adding the photo demonstrated grace and kindness. When I showed the response to my teacher he gave me a ‘+’ to add to the ‘A’!
All in all it gave me a whole new perspective on the man who was so universally hated at the time! He certainly was a complicated and interesting human being!

People know clearly that age matters when you are serving in a high stress and critical job. Our US Constitution put a minimum age for service for various positions, and people back then died much sooner than now. Seventy-five years of age is time to retire from high stress jobs. The USA was in a bad position due to FDR hanging on when he was sick. You should watch all the Nixon v. JFK debates if you haven't seen them. There is a reason Kennedy very, very, narrowly beat Nixon and almost lost the popular vote. They were both excellent candidates and both very well spoken. They were both totally respectful of one another and literally everyone they were in contact with, at least in public. I fear I may never know what it's like to have 1 excellent Presidential candidate to vote for, much less two at the same time. Yes, but they chose not to put a number.. which might have turned out to be too low for today. Their idea was to hope that the electorate would and COULD do its job and vote for those best qualified. Lots of rules and perks are now in place, even for states that have a 'sitting' member who chairs a committee. The system has been compromised. I get it. But i deeply believe that there can be great experience, insight, honor, and good sense in those who are older. Not all, i know. But there are still quite a few.(Sorry, but good grief..look what turmoil and chaos has come from the younger members today..,)

@@SusanKay-….We had Donald Trump for 4 years. Despite the headwinds he was a magnificent policy maker. Now…after all this immense destruction they say he’ll erase democracy. Why would he? He’s past that test. What you are seeing now…is destruction of democratic institutions. Your 1st and 2nd amendments have been stripped from American rights.

@@itsjustme4848I disagree. He adored his family, especially his wife. He was a devoted Quaker. He resigned because he admitted to the FBI “I know about John.” (The JFK murder.) They had to get him out of the White House, so they set him up.

It is BECAUSE they have families that they keep their jobs. More than likely things are not great on the home front.

Great points, though today it could be a bit higher. E.g. first term by 55, out by 75. The wisdom of age is very valuable to leadership, but so is sharpness, energy, etc.
