I was born in 1954, been a Man U. fan since I was 5, I remember England winning the World Cup IN 1966 (Bobby Charlton HEADING the winning goal in the semi-final against Portugal!) Gordon Banks making the best save ever from Pele's header - Pele was the real deal, unlike Maradona who was a cheat.
Martin Ellis, I'm 10 years younger than you (I was born in 1964) and a Liverpool fan since 5 years old, but the two players I loved watching play as a child were Pele and George Best. I could literally watch them both for hours on end! To this day I still feel that outside of Man Utd and N Ireland fans, George never really got the credit he deserved. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
Pele is still the GOAT, in my opinion. What must be taken into account are the following: The ball. A heavy ball that when wet used to hurt and sometimes even stun you when headed. The boots. Heavier stiffer boots than those used today with moulded studs. The Pitches. Not your smooth green pitches of today but more like a bumpy muddy ground like you'd get at the local park where people walk their dogs. The tackles. Tackling from behind was allowed. So you could go through a player to get to the ball. Red and yellow cards weren't introduced until the 1970 World Cup, Pele's last. Yet everything you've seen Messi or Ronaldo or any other skilful player do skill wise, Pele did it before any of them. He was even performing the rabona back in the 60s! He was just simply decades ahead of his time!

RIP to the best of all time BOAT ⛵ and the greatest of all time GOAT 🐐.Pele was a pioneer and that still remains the case because nobody has been able to do what he did with an efficiency rate that is same or better.
Pele was technically better faster, stronger, well balanced in such that he wasn't just an all-round great player, his all-round abilities were very high unlike most all-rounders who are just average all-around.

He played in anerica after he was too old to play competitivly for Brazil....He came to the States as a promotion to get the American people interrested in the sport. That's why he meet President Ford...And it worked. People packed the stadiums to see him when he came to play in a city (he played for New York). He was a big thing when he came to a City. He changed the game soccer from being obsure to a national sport.
I 've nenver seen no one like him even Maradona or Ronaldo or messi.

He played most of his career at Santos (from São Paulo State), but debuted as professional in a combined team between Santos and Vasco da Gama (the first club to allow and defend poor and black people on Football), that's why you saw 4 goals when he was wearing a white shirt with a black diagonal strip on it. He also fisnished his career at Miami Cosmos, from USA. Oh, and of course he played for Brazilian National Team and won 3 world cups of the 5 Brazil have.
