There is way more detail to this, this is a very fast summary which is not detailed, Shia Islam is based off of details and little things that make the most difference. For example imam hussain didn’t challenge yazid, he was called upon by yazid to give his bait (vote) to him but imam refused to give his vote to someone who neglected Islam and its meaning.

There are so many errors in this you said Hassan didn't challenge Muawiya that isn't true he was ready to fight against him. His army actually did fight off Muawiya army. Some Sunni recogise Imam Hassan as the 5th Caliph. They didn't do the peace treaty until after he was betrayed by his own army. some had been bribed by Muawiya & deserted him or switched sides. There was an assassination attempt from someone in his own army. I get you were doing summary but you can do that without it being misleading one imam chose to fight and the other didn't. Wasn't like that at all. You should have said ultimately Imam Hassan was betrayed by his own army who desserted him. He had little choice but to do a peace treaty. As for Imam Hussain raising against Yazeed that is a false narrative used by supporters of Yazeed to justify his brutal massacre. Lets use common sense if he was rising against Yazeed would have took an army with him but he took his family & few supporters. Even Charles Dickens a non muslim can see this so not sure why you couldn't use that logic. Also let take Imam Hussain own words why he refused to give allegience. Yazeed was far worse than his father he was open in his disbelief. Being slaughtered for not giving allegience and rising against the leader are two different things. Yes Kufians offered to support him but betrayed him and he never got there. He knew he wouldn't as Prophet have prophesised he would be killed in karbala is very well known. He was offered an army in Yemen why didn't he go there? He clearly didn't plan to topple Yazeed he made a moral stand in refusing allegience. Also you said the follower of Ali were know after karbala. That is not true at all. We had terms like shia of Muawiya and the shia of Ali in his lifetime. It might have carried different meanings to different people but even in the lifetime of the prophet he used the term of shia of Ali for his true followers not the political ones. I have only watched the start. If I watched more there be more errors you need to be careful on the sources you are taking from. As mentioned all your sources were non shia. If you think Momen was a shia no he wasn't he was Baha'i he got things wrong in his book even a layman can spot. Would it hurt you have used one shia scholarly work to actually know the shia side from a shi'i
Well to be honest Imam Hussain Was going to Challenge Muawyia's Son Yazid. but He was abandon by his follower. He only had 72 of his Follower which were Slaughter and killed And Massacre. so that is not really a Battle. Because Imam Hussain stick with his Believe of Justice and Dignity If you think about it that is 100% unjustice and Unfair for the Muawayia's Son Yazid Army to even Start to Slaughter Imam Hussain and his follower since Imam Hussain was the Grandson of Prophet Mohammad ( peace be upon him) That is why we Shia still think about it. Killing and Massacring the Prophet's Grandson is the Tragedy as Ashura.
@@mohammadbazzi3072 You are confusing Imam Hassan with Imam Hussain. Imam Hussain abided by treaty that was agreed by his brother. That isn't the error on video Imam Hassan did have war with Muawiya. He said he just agreed to Muawiya which is false
Also there are two things that establish the Imam , Nass and Ismat. Designation and being sinless. As the verse of Imamat states in the Quran in regards to Abrahim (as). The Quran designates Abrahim as an Imam and says his lineage will have Imams who have no evil (sins etc) . We all agree in the designation in Ghadeer and no one can point a finger of any evil or sin from Imam Ali (as), he is tathir (completely pure) as the Quran states The claim of being sinless is a big one that none have made except for the Imams of Ahlul-Bayt (as) and no one has been able to prove they ever wavered in Islam.
5:30 its well known that both ali and hasan were there in karbala and ali was taken captive to syria and hasan was brutally injured but was taken hostage and both have decendants to this day
As a Christian, I'd say Shi'a have been persecuted for ages. Began with Abu Sufian and his gang who abhorred Ali and followed with even A'isha (wife of Muhammad) did not like him. Hassan was plotted and martyred, followed by Hussein, my habibi, and his family. This didn't stop, all of their descendants were martyred by these people who say that love them but at the same time revere people like Zubair, Talha, etc. Just like all the apostles, Shi'a Imams also suffered persecution. I don't know if people know this but the foundation of Sunni Fiqhs like Hanafi or Shai'fi, were in Shiism Imam Jaffar al Saddiq. Also, it's sad that so many splinter groups happened in Islam that everybody keeps calling each other a disbeliever. Only the Almighty has that right to judge us. Similarly, I wish Shi'a brothers have some peace as we all know the alliance of some radical Islamists who always keep supressing them. Prayers and blessings 🙏🏻
Very Good Comment. And Yes I agree with you. The Hanafi and Shafi Were Founded and Teached by Imam Jaffar al Saddiq. So If you do the Research most of islam should Follow The islamic schools and Branches.
One major theory has gone into Shia twelver. That is when these other names were mentioned and rumored to be Imam, it was to protect the actual Imam from the ruling party who were oppressors. We see this in the case of Imam Ali bin Hussain and Muhammad Haniffiya, Muhammad Haniffiya died on the bait of Imam Ali bin Hussain and abandon the claim to Imamat . Imam Sadiq and Ismail, Ismail never actually claimed to be Imam but was always seen with Imam Jafar sadiq for that to be the implication for his eldest son. Also Zaid bin Ali also never claimed to be an Imam and was well respected and praised by their supposed opponent Imam, Mohammed Baqir and Imam Sadiq , Zaid bin Ali was never treated as an opponent (these are later claims by his sons and followers). So in essence these other non-twelever Imams were used to protect the actual Imam(as). Now in the case of waqafia, they started saying the Imam is in ghayib, based on the teaching of ghaybat from the teaching of 5th and 6th Imam, who’s they? They were 7th Imams (as) tax collectors and had compiled much money and didn’t want to give it up. This is also substantiated. This is the actual reason why twelevers out performed the spread of these other “Shia sects”. protecting the actual Imam, it took the entire network of Banu Hashim to do so.
We also find a similar example with Abu Talib not professing his eman. All thou he was a believer he would try to be a middle man with the rest of Qurash, which he was able to accomplish by mot professing his faith and looked as an elder rather then a believer . However His-story (history) says he never believed in Islam but his lineage disagrees. This is such a deep topic…

Out of all your sources used not one was by a shia. Hardly a balanced view. What makes you think non shia know shi'ism better than shia? There are plenty of a shia academics with scholarly works. I have actually read one of these books a couple of times and layman like me can find errors in it. Even then it looks like you put your personal opinion on the video. Without doubt the information you gave comes across as very much as some anti shia. You portrayed shia as a sect that came along later. Where there is plenty of evidence to prove that wrong. This why your getting so many extremist declaring shia disbelievers praising your video for the way you made shia look. Isis and Al qaeda would love your video
I think the real history has the Shia movement starting in Morocco among remaining Umayyads after Abbasid take-over. The story of Ali and the Imams were inserted into the Sira for political reasons. Bloodline of the prophet probably means bloodline of the Umayyads.
I'm saying is that religion and politivs aren't intertwined it just depends on your perspective and sometimes just the general look but even then it isn't the same case.

Nice presentation of a very complex subject. Only problem is some of the icons that you created for the characters have the arabic text reversed left to right and should be written right to left.
This video is far from truth. The real and first early Shias were called the few companions of prophet Muhammad pbuh and stood up with Ali Ibn Abi Talib against Abu Bakar. Salam Al Farsi, Abu Zar Ghafri were few of the Shia companions.
The Imams knew what they were doing that is why they didn’t wage constant revolts. It sounds nice but for the greater good it was better they didn’t and they knew that. May a Allah bless the prophet and his progeny.

I wonder what your opinion is of the scholarship showing Muhammad is mythical, Mecca did not exist in the 7th C and the Rashudins and the Umayyads were both Christian? Scholars think the Abbasids invented Muhammad by Koranic revision and the addition of Siras and Hadiths. I think the Shia movement started in the remaining Umayyad lands in the far west. So the bloodline of the Prophet probably refers to the Umayyad Caliphs. This might be why some Sunnis say Shia are not Muslims. If they are from the Umayyads then their origins are Christian, blurred with Islam in the 9th C.

story of Shia in Yehudi's view. Islam is not about successor, no ayat(sign) for who must be successor rather worshiping one God and follow the prophet's way.
So do you think it is wise for God and his prophet to leave muslims without guidance regarding whom they should follow? Don't you think that might make it difficult for people to agree on who should rule muslims? Haven't you heard the Hadith of the prophet "Whoever I am his Mawla Ali is his Mawla"?
None of this action is taking place in the Hejaz. All is happening thousands of miles north in Damascus and Kufa. So you needn’t pan down to Mecca and Medina every time.
I think the strongest reason why to believe in the later of the 12 Imams is because of Uthman al-Amri. Uthman had more than enough ability to claim power for himself rather than stick and adhere to Imamate doctrine. He could've easily made away with corrupting Shia Islam for his own benefits, but he didn't. He stayed loyal to the Imams and would die for them.
Couldn't you say that maybe he did possibly claim power since he announced himself to be the 12th imam's representative, and so all the khums payments and questions to the imam went through him. He couldn't have claimed imamah since it is an inherited position so that was the next best thing.
@@stuffsummedup22 Being a Shia at that time would've gotten you arrested, exiled, persecuted, tortured, killed, etcetera. Persecution was at such an all-time high. To propagate a lie would just be useless nonsense for the deputies when they could have easily renounced Shia Islam for a better life. And we know Uthman's life story with the Imams, it would be virtually impossible for him to betray them as he was close like family to them. He was one of the closest companions to the last few Imams. The Imam said to trust Uthman which means he had to act in accordance to their rulings, not on his own accord, and any way to fall short of said-rulings would have been obvious.
@@masteronmace I don't doubt the abbasids did persecute the shia but it was the zaydis who the caliphs would have paid most attention to since they were actively rising up against them unlike the 12ers. And the financial incentive of collecting khums is a pretty big advantage of making the claim of representing the imam. With regards to the questions, wouldn't we have seen kulayni cite the 12th imam and his deputies more often in al kafi if the shia relied on them that much for answers about rulings?
@@stuffsummedup22 Also, Al Kafi isn't a book about just the 12th Imam. There's other books such as Kitab al Ghayba for that. Kulayni in his preface stated that he wanted to grab as much traditions as he could from all of the Imams. If there was nefarious intention from the 12th Imam's deputies it would be obvious but we know their lives plain and simple. Even though it was the Zaydis who received the end of the stick most of the time, 12er Shias are included in the group of kafirs too and were persecuted or silenced. Bukhari, the collector of Sahih Bukhari, himself says in his own words not to trust any narration from the Shia because they are Shia.

After the death of the holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his immaculate progeny), Muslims had two options for seeking guidance from; the ahlulbayt (, family) of the holy Prophet. Others. The ahlulbayt are those family members of the holy Prophet who grew up in his blessed lap. Islam, Qur'an and the Shari'ah was revealed in their house. The angels descended with the blessings, mercy and grace of Allah into their house. Muslims are obligated to send blessings upon not only their holy Prophet but also his holy progeny in their namaz/salat. Allah testifies of their purity, infallibility, cleanliness and perfection in the holy Qur'an. The holy Prophet left behind him the Book of Allah, the holy Qur'an and his holy progeny. They are the inheritors of the holy Prophet's knowledge, wisdom, understanding and guidance. They are the best examples, role models and ideals after the holy Prophet. Who can understand Islam, Qur'an, Shari'ah, the sunnah of the holy Prophet and so on better than the people of the house? This is why the Twelver Shi'as follow the ahlulbayt and none else. As regards to others, we are not sure of the state of their iman, source of their knowledge, information, understanding and guidance about Islam. The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of Muslims are victims of prejudice, brainwashing, ignorance, misconceptions and misinformation when it comes to the school of the ahlulbayt. Muslims ask Allah at least ten times a day in their namaz/salat, "guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom You have showered Your blessings, mercy and grace; not of those upon whom You sent Your wrath and gone astray" As a Muslim, have you ever paused for a moment and asked yourself as to who are the ones upon whom is Allah's grace, blessings and mercy? In the same salat/namaz, Muslims send blessings upon not only their holy Prophet but also his holy progeny. Again, have you ever thought for a moment who this progeny of your Prophet is upon whom you are obligated to send blessings? Their names, status, contributions, sacrifices and so on? www.al-islam.org www.imamali.net/?id=2390

I'm not a muslim, or have any stake in this, but honestly the Shia sects just sounds like Ali's political supporters having sour grapes and then just turned their political movement into a religious one to give their guys claim to the head of the religion more legitimacy. Kind of like how King Charles VII likely used Joan of Arc to turn his losing cause for the French throne into a mission from god. All these Shia sects seem based on succession of the leader of Islam instead of an actual theological arguments like the Christian divides over the nature of Jesus with the Nestorian, Monophysite, and Chalcedonian branches of Christianity. All these Shia sects like the Fathites and Ismailis remind me of succession factions in Europe like the Spanish Alfonsists and Carlists and French Legitimists and Orleanists. I don't think when Mohammed predicted Islam would break up into competing sects this is what he had in mind.
no theological arguments? have you even googled what shia islam is? like seriously, even the simplest google search shows that shias certainly do have a theological base for their beliefs. next time, try doing some basic research before commenting, its ridiculous.
Well prophet muhammad did say hold onto the Quran and his Family. He even appointed Ali as the successor at the event of ghadir khumm. Please do your research and don’t be ignorant
There is so much wrong in this comment. What you said is nothing more than your guesswork based on very little knowledge of islam let alone shi'ism but on a flawed analogy to christian faith. This video by none muslims is far better and less bias even though it has odd error too th-cam.com/video/-85dXjgMiSU/w-d-xo.html But to be fair to you if your view it was based on this video no wonder you come with such a poor assessment, this video was far from neutral and very biased virtually anti shia. 1) You claim it started off as political movement. Not if you you actually knew about the Prophet life in more detail which he doesn't touch on at all. The Prophet never left the muslim community without someone in charge never. Your telling me he didn't leave a successor. There numerous evidences he left a successor and who that was. The quran actually states clear God representatives are choose by God until the end of time. Prophet actually gave guidance of what muslims should follow. Depending if you follow it or don't you get a different theology. th-cam.com/video/ku7pNxE7u1s/w-d-xo.html 2) It certainly isn't sour grapes the shia view is it doesn't matter if they never became the political rulers they were always gods representatives regardless. So it was people lost not theirs. 3) All these shia sects you do realise the overwhelming sect all one sect there are only 3 really now most these sect who did rise to try take power didnt' have any basis and died out. He forgets to mention that. He intention makes a big deal of number of factions. There are many factions in all faiths sunnis have, christians have, Jews have. 4) You claimed the Prophet Muhammad didn't predict islam would have all these different sect all muslims agree he did even the quran warns of it. So your completely wrong on this.
The prophet Muhammad peace be upon him prophicies that muslims will be divided into 73 sects and only one will be on the right path , i agree that shia are not real muslims , they insult the wife of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him , so they are heretics .

I wonder what your opinion is of the scholarship showing Muhammad is mythical, Mecca did not exist in the 7th C and the Rashudins and the Umayyads were both Christian? Scholars think the Abbasids invented Muhammad by Koranic revision and the addition of Siras and Hadiths. I think the Shia movement started in the remaining Umayyad lands in the far west. What do u mean ???
@@stuffsummedup22 Kulayni does wdym- Kulayni knew the final deputy personally and lived within their lives
Very informative and well done, BUT I wish you had mentioned years in which things were happening.
The path of those upon whom You have showered Your blessings, mercy and grace; not of those upon whom You sent Your wrath and gone astray"
As a Muslim, have you ever paused for a moment and asked yourself as to who are the ones upon whom is Allah's grace, blessings and mercy?
In the same salat/namaz, Muslims send blessings upon not only their holy Prophet but also his holy progeny. Again, have you ever thought for a moment who this progeny of your Prophet is upon whom you are obligated to send blessings? Their names, status, contributions, sacrifices and so on?

It’s not that Jafar Al-Sadiq (as) didn’t appoint an Imam , as you mentioned he was the one who said the next Imam has to be announced. Also you said the sect “seveners” believed Ismail went into occultation but this is incorrect, they believed Musa ibn Jaffar went into occultation not Ismail and hence rejected Ali ibn Musa (as).
Never mind . Waqafia were also believed in 7 Imams but Seveners mentioned were different and believed in Ismail being in occultation. Interesting ..
Any how that was interesting. But the Imams stem from the Prophets (as) Hadith that there will be 12 Leaders after me. Interestingly enough this is narrated in books by their original opponents (sunnis). Lot of things I want to dive into and thank you for the time and effort you must have put in to make this documentary.
It was a very well researched video,
But please refrain from showing pictures of our Imam's ,it is against our beliefs
It would be easier to understand if there were drawings of these men. All these "Mohammad Abu ibn" names accompanied by Arabic script don't add to making this history less confusing.
it wasn't well researched it not a shia narrative he was giving. It is like he taken from non shi'i narrative one that wants to make shia like they were sect who came about later ignore evidence during the time of the prophet (sawa)
Waiting for your video of a “story of another time”
Too bad a lot of information is Sunni influenced. I would advice you study history from the sources of Shia like www.al-islam.org
Exactly it is like he taken from non shi'i narrative one that wants to make shia like they were sect who came about later ignore evidence during the time of the prophet (sawa)
Great video- I’d just be more careful with the Arabic writing you used cus it did not translate well 😅 the letters were written left to write instead of vice versa and the letters also didn’t connect as they should have
why didnt the abbasids try to unite caliph and imam
The soundtrack for this sounds epic. Could you please drop me the link? The one playing at 4:14 ?
I'm searching for this soundtrack for a very long long time, I've asked many to give the link or at least mention the name, but no one gave. Very pathetic people.

in a nutshell.. few skipped details.. but overall its not missleading in such how even most islam channels delivers it, and yeah we basically holds on the prophet saw teaching and heritage via lineage.. which i found the most convinient and adquette way to practice, "the most straight path" so far that took efforts to find with all those politics and powers in play..

@@lobstered_blue-lobster You want me to remember from over a month go. Why don't you go read the other comments I listed loads of them. But if your that clueless you don't know what they are, your unlikely to understand it anyway. Or you have a blind bias that doesn't want to see them. Or naivity that everything a non muslim puts on youtube is correct.
@@lobstered_blue-lobster
1) Hassan didn't challenge Muawiya? Completely false they actual fought against each other before the peace treaty, so factually what is said is false. Sunni historical sources record the fighting. There are reaason this guy calls himself the casual historian he doesn't know much. Since when do you refer someone as not resisting when they fought battles where people died! Since when is that no challenge? You don't make false claims like that unless your completely clueless like you and him.
2) Some Sunni recogise Imam Hassan as the 5th Caliph. They didn't do the peace treaty until after he was betrayed by his own army. some had been bribed by Muawiya & deserted him or switched sides. There was an assassination attempt from someone in his own army. So there are sunni's who during that time see him as the legimate caliph.
3) As for Imam Hussain raising against Yazeed that is a false narrative used by supporters of Yazeed to justify his brutal massacre. Lets use common sense if he was rising against Yazeed he would have took an army with him but he took his family & few supporters. Even Charles Dickens a non muslim can see this and actually statement that if Imam Hussain went for powere I don't understand why he took his family. In others words he clearly doesn't agree. so not sure why you couldn't use that logic.
4) Also let take Imam Hussain own words why he refused to give allegience. I think he knows better than anyone why he did what he did. He was offered support to stay in Madina and he was offered an army in Yemen why didn't he go there? This was after he knew of the betrayal too. He clearly didn't plan to topple Yazeed he made a moral stand in refusing allegience. If he wasn't unbias since your claiming I am why give his opinion as factually when at minimum it certainly isn't the agreed opinion.
5) Also he said the followers of Ali were known after karbala. That is not true at all. We had terms like shia of Muawiya and the shia of Ali in his lifetime. Even non shi'i academic speak of this.
It might have carried different meanings to different people but even in the lifetime of the prophet he used the term of shia of Ali for his true followers not the political ones. This is in sunni sources again,
I have only watched the start. If I watched more there be more errors there other errors like you comment your replying too!!!! He also likes a comment there someone mocking a point clearly shows he has pre conceived opinion of what he thinks happened from where ever he taking his opinion from. I have read one his sources many times doesn't say the stuff he claiming. The opposite if anything and that by non shi'is all his sources were.
Either you have blind bias the very is reason your actually acting like there were no errors or you completely ignorant on islamic history even accepted by the other side. I not even talking of shia sources. You claim I biased I am making all these points from non shi'i experts will even agree with if honest.
The claims of other Imams were to protect the actual Imam , not all but some were also claimed Imam for their dead father and not the father himself ever claimed Imamat like Zaid bin Ali. This is a good effort but really paints an inaccurate picture.
Very good video. I congratulate you for managing to explain the madness of Shia sucession. As a former Muslim, and someone who investigated Islamic sects kind of rigurously, I didn't know how many factions existed, I mean, this is better than Game of Thrones in that regard.
better than the ummayad caliphate an abbasids who never EVER came close to the prophets teachings

Interesting the casual history liked this comment mocking shia belief show how disingenious he was in making this video. He certainly where not knowledgeable or partisan.
If casual historian had any real knowledgeable of islam he would know all islam hold some belief in occultation. They hold same belief about jesus that he went in occultation and there were other prophets too which all muslims accept so it nothing new. The fact Imams where killed it also happened to Prophets through out history. Yes many groups tried to use to take power but the whole red herring of all these sects he forgets to tell you most died out and the overall shia belong to one sect and there are only really 3 different sects now.
Where may I listen to your talk without the (to me at least) annoying background noise?

Very generic summary
Why not add drawings of the men in question or photos of actors to accompany all the "Mohammad Abu ibn Mohammad" names ?
It would make this less confusing to people who want to understand this material but aren't auditory learners.
not really all the pictures would be made up how they going to help someone. Imagine a face what is the difference.
You remind me of Markerpliers friend bob
Yes, its a nice topic, Im also curious when shiite starts to distinct themselves from Islam.
12:25 yep, thats why Sunni never consider shia is part of Islam and should consider themselves new religion, changing rules, even what Quran and Hadits (the main source of Islamic rules ) already established, as they saw fit that in the end only to legitimate their own lush of power... Its not different actually, because whether Sunni os Shia, Islam, or Jews, or even christianity, there will be some of them already in power twisting the law of their religion to justify their own act.
Well, that's just a unbiased very summarized version of it.
In actuality it's that age doesn't matter when it comes to divine leadership and it is backed up by the story of Jesus' birth in the quran where he proclaims to be a prophet of God as a baby.
That's the full argument shias use...

This video by none muslims is far better and less bias even though it has odd error too th-cam.com/video/-85dXjgMiSU/w-d-xo.html
But to be fair to you if your view it was based on this video no wonder you come with such a poor assessment, this video was far from neutral and very biased virtually anti shia.
Depending if you follow it or don't you get a different theology. th-cam.com/video/ku7pNxE7u1s/w-d-xo.html
2) It certainly isn't sour grapes the shia view is it doesn't matter if they never became the political rulers they were always gods representatives regardless.
The prophet Muhammad peace be upon him prophicies that muslims will be divided into 73 sects and only one will be on the right path , i agree that shia are not real muslims , they insult the wife of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him , so they are heretics .
thats because historians portray it that way, its far from reality but people usually arent bothered to go into nuance and complexity.
