Investors can choose from three investment options: aggressive (75% equity), moderate (50% equity), and conservative (25% equity).
Returns from NPS investments typically range from 9% to 12%.
At age 60, investors can withdraw 60% of their corpus as a tax-free lump sum and use the remaining 40% to purchase an annuity that will provide a regular pension.
The pension fund will pass to the investor's legal heirs after their death.
To achieve a monthly pension of Rs. 1 lakh, an investor would need to accumulate a corpus of Rs. 1.8 crore by age 60.
The required monthly investment amount varies depending on the investor's age, ranging from Rs. 2,700 for a 20-year-old to Rs. 225,000 for a 55-year-old.
