    I had a dr. once explain that the extra cramps we feel when using tampons is because the tampons sit much more on our cervix than the cups, discs, etc causing our uterus to contract more at the foreign object pressed against the opening which therefore causes a much more painful or difficult to deal with set if cramps than usual. I hope I explained that correctly

      @PeriodNirvana  ปีที่แล้ว +44

      That does make sense as a possible cause. I felt more tampon undivided cramps when the product was fuller, or at least this is the connection I made at the time.

      I never had cramps before my IUD but also never used tampons! My be that was one of the reasons I was not hurting as so many women do

      I can’t handle sitting in a pad nor putting a cup inside me so

    I switched because I liked the reusable part and the idea of not spending $$$$$$$ on tampons every month was appealing. The fact that my worst cramping vanished upon switching was an added bonus. I still get cramps sometimes, but I've never had the "I'm gonna puke" cramps ever again. It's been almost 20 years. I don't miss them.

    The cramps thing is one of my big reasons. I also have an autoimmune/auto inflammatory disease & almost immediately upon switching my inflammation during my periods was 1/4 of what it was before. Cost is also a big issue. I don’t have to buy anything month to month.

    They dry you out, a cup does not change anything it just collects the fluid.

  • @AVspectre

    Finally someone mentioned the pee string! I always felt I had to change when peeing because the thought of pee potentially wicking up the string (even just drops) made me uncomfortable. I’m a bit of a compulsive hand washer etc so it was a pretty distracting thought leading me to use way more tampons than I would have to based on flow alone.

    • @bleeka325

      You’re supposed to hold the string out of the way when you pee

    Weird, I was just listing all of these reasons in my head last night while I was laying in bed to sleep… with my hello disc nestled comfortably inside me. Love it so much. Another reason is being able to wear my usual comfy daily underwear without any kind of backup. Even on my heaviest days.

  • @Jelleybean18
    @Jelleybean18 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yes!!! I remember those cramps!
    I stopped using tampons years ago. It’s literally a cramp I would feel on the cervix and it would radiate around the base of the uterus and sometimes toward my legs!
    *yes, some people are sensitive enough to feel exactly where the pain is and yes some people can feel in general which area of the uterus is contracting and yes some peeps can feel ovulation. My Mother and I are some of those people

    Switching to a cup did help me, I used to get cramps for nearly the whole period when I was hopping between tampons and pads but now it’s only like intense cramps for one day. And that day usually ends up being my heaviest flow day. Also I used to get a rash around that area that had gone away when I switch to cups.

  • @loviebeest

    I still use pads. I dont like having anything inserted. But i also have working memory issues so its more handy for me to have the visuel reminder that i needto change.

    After I went on the pill for my heavy periods and unbearable cramps, my flow got really light. Tried using a tampon with my flow and it always came out really dry and that hurts, iykyk.

    I like menstrual discs SO MUCH more than tampons and a million times more than pads. A cup didnt work well for me but the disc definitely does

  • @laurenvanacken
    @laurenvanacken ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was using a menstrual cup now for over a year while a was on the pill.
    But ladies be careful: don’t use it with an IUD. It’s known to higher the risk of getting the IUD out or in a wrong position.
    I now am on an IUD and hate that I can’t use it anymore. So I’m back to tampons.

    • @yanetybanez3301

      @@yanetybanez3301 To be honest, I think it depends too much on wich gyaecologist you have and in what country you live. It should be a basic right to have all the info about contraception and the right info. It’s scary how some people are misinformed.

    The cramps are your body revolting the toxic chemicals tampons are covered in! I stopped using chemically tampons and started using a natural supplement and my periods are shorter, lighter & the cramps are gone. I still use tampons, just non-toxic natural ones, and I’m assuming the cup is the same idea. Ladies please stop putting at LEAST titanium dioxide in there ❤️ I bought L. Organic just yesterday in a hurry (not reading labels) and have miserable cramping for the first time in almost a year! It’s a mess out there be kind your body ❤️

    I'm really forgetful and the stress of needing to make sure I always had pads on hand was sometimes too much for me. Im also paycheck to paycheck and sometimes needed to search couches for change to buy pads. A little saving and now i never have to worry about that either
    I still buy pads and I carry them in my purse for emergencies/friends, but getting a cup has literally made my stress levels decrease

  • @Zazabazaa

    For me, I found out that cups gave me more cramps... which is unfortunate because it took me so long to find a cup that didn't have edges for some reason, and then I found out that I can't even use them!!
    I have periods underwear instead, because I was already bleeding into my underwear a lot due to a lack of pads, and I wanted something reusable

    • @chaoticgood8645
      @chaoticgood8645 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's unfortunate and kinda sucks! But I'm glad period underwear has been working for you :) have you tried a reusable disc before? They sit higher than where a cup does so people who switch from cups to discs are amazed at how they don't feel it at all! I've never gotten a cup to work for me but trying a disc was an instant win for me!

    The opposite happened for me. Using a cup gave me cramps. I tried a softer cup but my muscles were too strong I guess and kept partially collapsing the cup.

    I had this too. And I often forgot to take Tampons with me so my tampin was full and I couldn't change it cause I had nothing with me but when my cup is full I empty it and put it back in. When I stopped using Tampons it hurted for 2 weeks after my period cause it was all dried out even with the smallest Tampons and the worst period.

    I mostly stopped having that kind of cramp when I switched to the cup too, but for some reason that kind of cramp is significantly worse for the first 24-36 hours or so. This is a new development, only happening for my last few periods, but it's ridiculously painful to wear my cup that first day now and I don't know why. Why is it only happening now, after over a year of wearing it? And why is it only during day one?

  • @MissySimpleM

    I switched from tampons to period pants and my cramps have disappeared mostly, except for the first day and i genuinely forget I'm on my period.
    Only downside is I have to wash immediately after taking off with cold water, washing powder and salt by hand and then I throw them into the washing machine when water runs clear just to make sure it's all out.

    How many tampons do you use in one period? Because in my country (argentina) we just use it if it's summer and we want to swimm. Or if we have to use something tight like a dress. So a box of tampons could last a hole year or more.
    I was shocked how many some people use them. Like 'thats not healthy, right?'🥲
