It's not much the game slowed down, rather her options. Almost everyone can combo from Dair but Velma because all her attacks can't combo into it that well
@SOSO_CREPITUS literally never used that you had to get just the right distance to charge and hit you run across the screen light bulb up, jump and then use the air specials to hit and escape, and if you get the opportunity use the word bubble to lock on them send them into the air and launch them out the map with a word barrage
You forgot to mention Neutral Attack (megaphone) on the video. The distance is honestly quite good and has decent knockback. The recovery with her is also quite weird, because you basically have to spam up tilt off stage to get back, since as you mentioned, none of her moves help her on recovery. Outside of that, all points you made are true and I agree. She needs a massive overhaul in quite a couple of her moves. It's absurd how Velma did the biggest jump from a top tier character to such a low tier one in any game I have ever played. On beta she was amazing, but in release it's just so sad... I still use her, but you can't sugarcoat it lol

I only play 2s, my thoughts: Down special's cooldown buff is actually pretty good (2x speed I think), and in 2s it forms a shield for your ally. I'd like some on-cooldown version though, because it's a dead button for 90% of the match. Her grab is goofy, but a legit kill option that ignores armor. It's still hard to hit though. Make it throw as soon as she reaches a ledge so she doesn't get punished for landing it in 2s, and maybe let the player manually trigger her trip early and give it a hitbox. Air side special and calculator need something, anything. They could buff them or rework them, just give them a point.
I’m not super high-level or anything, but I feel like Velma and Adam notably have the least coherent movesets out of anyone else in the game. (As in, I don’t think there’s a crystal clear way to structure a consistent gameplan with either of them if you’re trying to play seriously; you end up just moving around and throwing out random s*** and hoping that something sticks.) Difference is, at least currently, a lot of Adam’s tools are obviously VERY strong, whereas most of Velma’s tools sort of just… aren’t. I do think that she’s actually quite fun to use. Like, really surprisingly fun, honestly. Almost everything about her feels a little bit weird, a tiny bit awkward, in a way that seems very intentional on the part of the developers. And for my tastes, that makes her super enjoyable to toy around with as an oddball in the cast. But it doesn’t particularly make me want to main her, personally, and I have a feeling I’m not alone.
For black Adam he’s very mix up intensive you are supposed to mix his mele combos with his lighting abilities the problem is a lot of people don’t know how to play that way a lot of people spam mele attacks or spam special but mixing both seamlessly is not everyone’s strong suit so then black adams end up just throwing out random stuff black Adam is good at knocking people to the side and knocking people up
Black Adam is arguably one of the best comboers(?) In the game since his hit box is huge paired with how fast he is, he can pull off a lot of different change ups.
They designed her to camp her enemies with projectiles so they gave her bad melee. But then they changed their mind and every camping fighter afterwards has twice as many projectiles as her and are also great in melee for some reason. She used to have great melee in the beta when she was the best fighter in the game but that was just because the hitboxes made no sense.
I used to main Velma, but now I just don't bother. It can be fun to win with her due to how limited her kill potential is. I just found myself being exhausted whenever I'd have to play as Velma in general. It just feels like I have to try way harder than the rest of the cast to win.
I almost bought her with my first 3K fighter currency, since i saw she looks like having a complex mechanic, and i thought "i could spend time mastering this". In the end i picked Joker and didn't regret it.
Multiversus STILL gets points from me for using the TRUE Velma in the game, and not the unspeakable abomination that shall not be named (extra points for not even bothering to include "that version" as a alternate variant.) That being said, while Velma isn't the best fight to use, I do like her special attack where she rushed at super speed, picks up an opponent and tosses them off the arena. It isn't much, but it is her best move that I like using when I play as her.
The side ground special would already be wayy better if you could simply dodge cancel it. Its actually pretty broken on the basketball map with the breakable walls, since you can carry an opponent straight to the blast zone and she gets a free kill.
Velma was such a Fun Character to play as in the Beta but They not only nerfed her, They made her worst to the point that she can't strongly Knockout Players They had her in Relaunch Trailer and Nobody is playing as her 😢 It's sad that the Devs have a Character like Velma sitting around in the Character Select Screen and She's barely played
I'm a dedicated Velma main, since the closed beta. I make exclusively Velma content on my channel. Interesting points, but I don't think this is a complete assessment of the character. One, this is only one aspect when you're talking about her tools for 1v1. You are correct pre mid-season patch she is not great. However, the 2nd factor you did not review in regards to damage is the Perks that helps with damage. You'll do more damage with the fire perk, 100/weaken perk, and the armor killer perk. Lastly, you have to utilize her tools on baits and opponent recovery frames. If you dodge properly, you can catch players in a lot of scenarios with aerial and ground side special. I'm a top 100 Velma in 2v2s. I have hours of my gameplay footage that would negate some of these points. No one plays Velma now because she's not a brain-dead character. You have to be creative with her toolkit and have great dodge movement. Her weakest asset is simply recovery frames. And with her adjustments now, you can actually combo out of a lot of the moves you specified that you can't like d tilt/d atk. Also her d special is now like her best move which leads her into other aerial combos such as d special into side special.
They just need to bring back old school Velma from the beta. I understood the nerfs back then because she was a menace but with the game being slowed down I think her old kit would have been fine. Megaphone is good but I do miss the fact that you could aim at teammates and then the move would reactivate wherever your teammates are. I do agree with the video though even though she still feels nice when I play her but it’s difficult to do anything with her
She didn't used to suck, she was my main in the beta, I don't know what they did to her but she used to have one or two strong attacks andbinsane mobility around the map, and the bubbles used to be able to be used strategically to push an ebemy out of the to of the map
velma isnt as bad as everyone says she is (coming from a 3k win velma). She does have combos like forward air into down air into forward air, dodge back megaphone (works 80% of the time) or down air, up special, forward air. her side air special is great for when someone is juggling you in the air. right as they’re about to hit you during their ladder combo, you can use it as a counter move and it often sends them flying into the blast zone. it can also be used to quickly create distance from your opponent, spam it twice and youre already across the entire stage. her megaphone is an amazing zoning tool that can be used incredibly effectively against characters like harley, batman, superman, finn, or anyone who needs to get up close to you. the main difference with velma is that you HAVE to play extremely defensively and react to your opponents moves. unlike other characters that rush in to do their combos, you have to wait to catch your opponent off guard or whiff punish. a lot of people dont like that play style and thats okay but it doesnt mean shes bad. i noticed that you tried to juggle your enemies with three up airs in a row which isnt very optimal. you can easily up air, up special, up air, up special for a low percentage to death kill IF you read your opponents DI correctly. ive damn near 0 to death people with that combo on stages with low blasts zones. its just not easy to pull off as finns 0 to death combo. you already touched on how good her speech bubbles are and her van. the van is an amazing way to make a comeback if you or your team are down a stock. its saved me countless times. the speech bubbles in 2s allows your teammate to rush in to start their combo with little risk as your opponents with get hit with the “toodles” and be stunned. her down special is very good in twos for the same reason as well as providing your teammates with a cool down which is very helpful for characters like WW and her shield. honestly my biggest complaint are her tiny hitboxes compared to the rest of the cast. it seems like everyone else has incredibly generous hitboxes while velma’s are very small. for example, jokers up tilt goes all the way around his character in a wide space, black adam’s neutral air, or finns backpack. i know everyone is going to disagree with me because ppl try her for 1 day, try to play her like she harley or finn, get frustrated, put her down, and complain about how trash she is. she definitely at high tier but shes definitely mid tier at worst. she isnt the easiest character to pick up, but once you master her, she is so much fun to play.
I’m a Velma main with over 1000 wins on her, and I agree with you on most points. Sad to see such a good character (not broken by any means, though), go down to one of the worst characters ever.

You can down smash jab twice the other way and down smash again your opponent can DI but it gets good damage. - some Velma main Edit: jab jab down smash is not very reliable but you can combine speech bubbles with and up b into up air to get a kill early. You can also combo the speech bubbles into a lot which is nice Also good video

Sadly the mystery van is broken no, sometimes it picks up people and sometimes it does…. Also down special in 1v1 so badd. the only good thing about velma is the match up check like you see big foot more then velma and people just dont know how the tools in her kit work i played her enough to realize a velma player worst enemy is another velma player
One cool idea I just had would be her being able to ignite the chemicals on grounded up b whenever she wants instead of just waiting. Give her a C4 type beat yknow? (Also add some emotes, whats the point in paying 3 bucks a month if i cant use :Arya_swag:)
