Cheers 👍 lot of advantages to an overground drain, mainly the ease of access for cleaning etc. Good luck with your build

Nice man I'm about to do something similar to this but no plants 😢 hey what did you use to paint your top copings of the pond with if it's regular paint that's not bad for the fish have you heard?

That’s pretty good low nitrates with only 10% water change. How much (in weight) are you feeding daily? Great update.

Great informative video series Neil ! I can now see where I went wrong in my past koi ponds, by not having a bottom drain and just a single small box filter. You must have saved a loads of cash on your filter system, by using items from a hardware store, rather than branded Koi pond products? I am currently planning my new koi pond, so want to get it right. If I fit a non removable bottom drain, how would I keep the inside of the 4" attached and hidden drainage pipe, clear of fly larvae that's stuck to the sides of the pipe? Also what water testing kits do you use, maybe you could do a video on this? Cheers....... Mal

Hey mal. With 4" pipes larve is not really an issue because the larger diameter compensates for any loss in flow but there is plenty of ways to clean a below ground drain if you want. Simply purging the pipework helps but you could also send a filter brush on a rope through the pipework

As for water testing I just use the regular api water testing kit. Best of luck with your build👍

I have an idea that if you can wifi control the water fill, you can also wifi activate aeration for the pond. But I guess if the power goes out while you’re away, a solar pump and battery pack will have to activate till the power comes back on…
