Many thanks to all of our supporters!
Finally CS-50 or CS-60 won't be needed to cannibalize for CS-80
Wow! Incredible work! And thank you for using discrete circuitry, so that it can be repaired even 40 years down the road!
Proud to support RetroLinear. This is so gratifying to see you do 1:1 the right way. Thank you.
Sounds incredible! Certainly hope you're thinking bigger after you've accomplished this MAJOR development!
This is the best news !!! Keeping the CS-80/60 alive ❤
Incredible work here. Looking forward to what comes of this, and I am sure plenty of people out there with CS in need of service are as well!
Much appreciated!
Brilliant
I built various versions of this sort of thing over the years, but not one meant to be a direct drop-in. Very nice.
It’s a while since I hung out there, but I think that you have been missed down at Muffs. Nice to see you are still in circulation.
Fantastic. The future is looking bright for CS80 fanboys. And this will mean a lot of broken CS synths will be salvaged from being scrap. Which is of course absolutely brilliant.
Mind blowing incredible
Wow, from owning a CS-50 years ago you really got the sound down too.
I had great fun with my CS60 until I just couldn’t keep it in tune …. this looks very cool!
Sounds exactly like my cs-60. Great work. Can we expect anything else from this great development? A rack mount two osc synth with these voice cards would be amazing. I would buy it.
Tim this is amazing. Congrats for you and whatever you are planning for these.
Thank you! Please share this everywhere!!!!!!!
Sounds amazing!!!
Thank you! Please share this everywhere!!!!!!!
Yes, but they don't smell the same, ha! Way to go Tim and team!
Great work !
Sounds very promising, love the CS sound 👍
That is very, very in tune. Like weirdly in tune.
Beautiful work on those cards. Are they your filters or the original????
So on point they might need to add an oscillator drift option to make it sound truly authentic 😆
I had a CS-80 about 20 years ago, even though it had just come from being refurbished at a famous tech place in SFO, it was generally a nightmare to keep in tune, and the newly installed Kenton MIDI Mod never worked properly. Would be great if this could be the start of building an updated version that didn't take 3 people to move! Great job....!
Rack mount?
@@snoolee7950 Speaking of which, I thought the Black Corporation's Deckard's Dream sounded very good, but not like a CS-80; something about the CS-80 oscillators being Hz/Octave or something, it missed the CS-80 midrange "fuzziness." FWIW, for a period of time I owned both the CS-80 and an Alesis Andromeda, and found a way to add band-pass filtering in the filter mixer to re-create that fuzzy tone. But no, not a rack mount, because a lot of the charm and musicality of the CS-80 was the way the interaction of the player with the (polyAT) keyboard and controls. Maybe a more modern chassis without all of that wood and Tolex?
100% tuning stability is not always 100% desirable and can sound a little less warm. Definitely interested in seeing this evolve!
Very cool. Interested to see where it goes!
Spot On
Great Job Retrolinear! When will these be available for sale? Why are several trim points eliminated? Also, CS80s & 60s stay very well in tune if set up and maintained properly. I don't know why everybody is complaining about the precision of the cards.
Awesome.
Thanks!
I designed the entire CS voice card clone about 2 years ago. I just wanted to mention that the tuning stability is only worth something if you replace all the cards at once. If you only replace out one card, the tuning won't track the rest of the original cards.
It appears that Tim has set an impossible target for anyone else to achieve. Making this claim without any backup is quite audacious.
Where is your video?

keeping an eye on this project, interested in the final product. I sold my CS80 worried about spare parts in case it failed. Now I have the Deckard's Dream of Black Corporation but this is another league
with due respect, not a fan of DD surface mount chips SMD and I do not like the sound of that type build. For me SMD and classic sound do not go together.
@@snoolee7950 These cards use SMDs
I had a CS-60 may years ago and one of the problems I had was physically moving it to go to a gig or a studio as it was soooo heavy. I did really like the feel of the keyboard, though, and the ribbon controller. You might want to consider producing an enclosure that's lighter than the wooden one (maybe carbon fibre)?
The cost of carbon fiber would make the price skyrocket
Would be nice, but I’m not holding my breath.
I think the ASM Hydrasynth Deluxe comes as close as possible.
Congrats on this milestone! Any availability and price?
Any chance of selling drop in replacements for the proprietary chips for original voice cards? Or a drop in replacement for the YM26600 and YM26700?
HELL YEAH
If Yamaha had any sense they would reissue this monster . they seem to be clueless to the synth market.
Would it be possible to expand the cs60 using the “memory” panel controls?
Where can I buy 😊?! Great work.
I'd like to suggest doing this as a Eurorack module. Do it as a single voice, as you've suggested, and anyone could add as many voices as they could afford.
black corporation already did it
@@pedrogomis You are correct, more or less. Deckard's Voice is quite expensive in my opinion and hobbled by its faithfulness to some of the CS80's quirkiness, so I'm still interested in seeing what RetroLinear can bring to the table.
@@pedrogomis Sorry, but their stuff sounds nothing like a CS-50/60/80. It has CEM3340 oscillators and not even the same sounding filter. They don't even claim it's a "clone", just "inspired". THIS sounds like the real thing.
Sounds like cats. 😊
If you are saying you have eliminated to drifting, then you have missed the piont
I'd be happy with a plugin if it had a beautiful physical controller like this so it could be played like an actual instrument.
So are gonna get a diy kit sign me up
We already have ME 80 VST 😂
Amazing work! Thanks for sharing your efforts.
This is very promising. Sounds excellent
Congrats!
Great job guys. We have to keep them all alive. Now you have done the voices, its not that much further to a full synth... or is it? 🤔🎚🎛🎚🎛
