Cheers. I’m 42 & it’s my son’s 9th birthday today (subbuteo a birthday present for him). First time either of us have ever played it, so great to see rules. Didn’t know you could reset players at goal kicks for example! All our players were down the wrong end.
Also great to know that you get a defensive flick for EVERY successful flick in your opponents possession. I like that the point is to defend, not attack the ball. If that were true, everyone would attack the ball, all the time.
I'm an American football fan that only just recently heard of this HUGE hobby, that doesn't seem to have much presence here. Got the UEFA starter kit, and plan on ordering an Astro pitch soon!
Sir, your store has GREAT prices, and I love all the custom made teams painted to order! I'll be ordering an Astro 77 pitch from you soon! Everywhere comparable that sells it, sells it for the same price in GBP (so around 75-80 dollars) and is around 50 dollars to ship. Lucky I found your channel and shop.
@@subbuteoman No thank you! I printed the rulebook from your website, and with a few more watches of your 20 minute vid, I think I got all the nuances down! It's really a matter of just, learning how the rules of football translate to a tabletop game, but the entire ruleset is basically just football when it's starts to click.
Great demonstration of the rules! We’re a gang of 8 members, or ‘cats’ (that’s what we’re referred to by a low key disinterested member), have been into this as way back as 1995, but one or two of us just keep on dragging instead of flicking! Just thinking that the easiest cure to this malady is chopping off their finger or hammer it down until they learn the lesson!! Joking ;)
Thanks for this very helpful video. A couple questions that I might've missed the answer to in the video: 1) If in possession I flick the ball into a stationary defender, and then it deflects into another of my players, do I maintain possession? 2) Somewhat related, what happens after a legal shot is saved and the ball comes back onto pitch without touching anyone? I assume if it comes back out and hits a player, that team gets possession?
I used to have this game in the 70's, I must say that it looks like the quality of the figures has gone down dramatically. Good to see the game still being played though.
Hi King. :-) Players that fall off the pitch are placed at the half way line (think like where a sub stands before coming on) . They can be used on the next flick and are "in play". I hope that helps.
so if attacking the ball cannot hit an opponent or they become the attackers. defenders can't flick and hit the ball. fair enough. but what if attacher flicks a player, the ball is moving, a defender flicks their player, they have stopped, but the ball then hits them - what happened then?
if a defender flicks and the figure is stationary after flicking - and the ball hits the defender - it is a change of possession. Key is the defensive figure must be stopped and the ball rolls onto it. If the defensive figure is moving and the ball hits it. It is a foul to offense, or offense can play on, their choice.
Fantastic video! As a big soccer fan, I'm inclined to start playing subbuteo. This is the best explanation of the rules I've seen yet. Thank you!
many thanks Jonathan!

You can reset the players after a goal kick!
Great to hear Richard!

you are welcome champ :-). 1) yes, you retain possession.. 2) Change of possession to the team who made the save. Take care and thanks for watching!
Really good breakdown of the rules 👍⚽️
thanks!

Superb video. Very clear. Thank you very much for all the time you invest doing this
thanks for that Damian!
Do you know what are the dimensions of the pitch or the cloth;
That helped I didn’t have a clue how to play
when you reposition for a goal kick are the defenders only allowed to reposition backwards or anywhere? thanks
Anywhere David.
Useful!
Hi what happens if ur bad like me and flick your player off the pitch. Can I then pick it up and put it where it went out?
Hi King. :-) Players that fall off the pitch are placed at the half way line (think like where a sub stands before coming on) . They can be used on the next flick and are "in play". I hope that helps.
@@subbuteoman so they can be anywhere on that half way line or just at the start of the half way line.
Not anywhere, they have to be on the side of the pitch just outside the touchline
@@subbuteoman alright thanks
I saw this when I was a kid... At least seems simpler that Warhammer.
