I have a ticket for September 8, 2021 ... in Philadelphia ... been a fan since 2004 and am finally, hopefully, going to see Jim and the guys play THIS SONG live ... I hope it's on the setlist!!!
I was lucky enough to be there that night, at the Louisville Palace, for this very special Circuital release show. The show lasted just over 3 hours, and it was burning up hot the whole time! This particular song demonstrates how smokin' the show really was!
@Ehudz I believe it's about knowing that the experiences/memories/feelings for things are always more valuable than the events/things that brought them about, and that they are what truly endures.
I've thought about it a lot, and come to the conclusion that the ending chant is "Aeolipile". It is one of the first steam engines invented around 1 AD.
@dj30harw There was a huge shift in the dynamic of the band and its music between It Still Moves and Z. I can see how that would turn off some fans of their earlier stuff.
@FCMahgeetah I started with TN Fire and it took me a VERY long time to warm up to the last album. I like to think that all the great bands evolve out of what their original passions for music were. Radiohead is a great example. I dont disagree with either of your opinions just wanted to say each painting an artist does is different. I would get bored sticking to the same formula over and over too if I were a band so I say cheers to MMJ
I disagree with everyone who doesn't want this band to evolve and become more maybe because I didn't discover them till Z came out but I think each and every CD is an evolution, I would put Circuital up as one of the greatest songs ever.
@FCMahgeetah To me it's all about the constant pull of love, lust, drugs, and money that tears relationships apart. 'Cause it's a choice..' But who cares. Like you said, it's freakin' Steam Engine. This song and Red Rocks were made for each other.
I thought I was take your money and your job? Could be wrong. Might feel like an idiot after I look up the lyrics. Probably should have before replying lmao regardless, incredible
@Ehudz It's definitely up for interpretation, it could be about God, I believe Jim said something like it being about looking past the physical attraction of something and finding something deeper, possibly like a relationship.
It can be interpreted in many ways, but basing off the vh1 storyteller version of Gideon is about spirituality in general, making it so it can be inspirational to all walks even none religious, this of course is an interpretation, but that is just what i thought, huge fans of MMJ saw them at mann center a couple months back and they played this song, stunning.
@prescotian1500 See, that makes sense, I thought you were just one of those "new music is dumb, just keep re-making Z and ISM" people, but there's definitely a huge shift in the style of music from ISM to Z, caused by the addition of Carl and Bo, there's still a few songs that have that older style (Dondante, Smokin from Shootin and Slow Slow Tune) But I can see how that shift alienated some fans of early MMJ. However, Steam Engine is totally one of their best, i can't see them topping it.
@dj30harw Im 30 (not a kid) and I have been listening to this band for a long time but they lost me when Z came out. I was stating that this is a great song, EVERTHING AFTER IS SHIT!!!! hence the phrase "this good" Is everyone on the internet not able to read.
Agree. Need to go back to roots. Progression is not always a good thing. 90% of their best music was in their first 2-3 albums. Only people that we’re on to them from day one really understand this. In their defense, it’s hard to improve on what was damn near greatest music ever made early on. JMO. To each his own.
My interpretation is that, the passing of time, is the “Steam Engine” rolling down the tracks, symbolically akin to a flowing river. All of which moving with a force, physically speaking, we cannot hope to stop, and must accept it for what is. However, there is something we as humans do possess that is, imho infinitely, more powerful than any force of nature, and that is the power of human connection. Which can be a moment so singularly powerful that Time and Space come to a stand still, goddamn them shaky knees. All lost and found again in the flow of that beat which leads all the way into Pat’s drum solo.

@prescotian1500 They obviously can. I think the new album proves that.

Entonces, yo sí creo
Nada de esto es físico
al menos no para mí
Entonces, yo sí creo
Que en cualquier lugar va
Siempre estoy conmigo
No es el sueño
Eso te hace débil
No es la noche
Eso te hace dormir
Pero es una voz
Y es una elección
Para llamarlo o quedarse en casa
¡Asi que! Yo creo
Nada de esto es físico
al menos no para mí
Entonces, yo sí creo
Que en cualquier lugar va
Siempre estoy conmigo
No es la bestia
No son las sábanas
Tan suave y cálido
Todo sobre mí
Pero, es el toque
Necesitas tanto
Moverse alrededor
En esta tierra verde
Toma tu dinero y tus medicamentos
Toma tu dinero y tus medicamentos
Y maldita sea, esas rodillas temblorosas
El hecho de que mi corazón está latiendo
Es toda la prueba que necesitas
@@Fireballfree You are a real one! Cheers!
