I love Fincher. His music videos are better than most movies today. I brag that I am one of the two dozen people who saw this movie in the theater. Even though I knew the ending (I had seen a documentary about Zodiac/ALA a year or so earlier), I still thought it was his best work.
Citizen X left the biggest impression on me. The frustration of the investigators with the government as they were downplaying the situation just to appear like they had everything under control
@ “ an American phenomenon” they said . When I watched that mini series Chernobyl, the Soviet government in the show made me feel frustrated too n reminded me of Citizen x
The only thing that bothered me as being very inaccurate was Aileen's size. She was extremely petite. Charlize is 5'10". But I agree, she 100% deserved that Oscar.
@@katyburch6593and her girlfriend was quite heavy and also ginger. The movie isn't very accurate at all, at least compared to the book. Having said that, it's absolutely my favorite as well, love her performance.
Citizen X is such an excellent made-for-TV film, pretty chilling. And the way Chikatilo was dealt with at the end was so satisfying: no drama, just step through the door and dat’s dat.
Monster was both incredibly disturbing and deeply saddening, all at the same time. It shows how child abuse ensures a life of trauma, and creates a cycle of violence. I could only watch it twice. I commend the director for not sensationalizing or glamorizing Aileen Wuornos's life and crimes. It was an absolute tragedy.
Another serial killer movie worth mentioning is "The Town That Dreaded Sundown". It is about a serial killer who terrorized a town and was never caught.
Zac efrons performance was so underrated and I honestly thought it was amazing that you don’t really see him kill as bundy but he still makes you feel so uneasy and uncomfortable
I remember watching that in the theatre here in Canada and people were leaving the theatre cuz they couldn't take it. I remember by the end the theatre was mostly empty
“Monster” always got me. It was sad also she they made the actress look just like her and seeing her real interviews I don’t see a difference in the two.
The Zodiac Killer scared me , when I was a kid for the longest time .He seemed like are West Coast version of the Bogey Man , that's just me when I was a kid of the eighties .Since there was a lot of serial killers back then ,but like Netflix just made a documentary on the Zodiac .Which this one dude seems have a eire connection to the Zodiac Killer .
Has the volume been raised on the background music? Because it was loud enough to be distracting. Please turn it down a notch or two (or don't have it at all).
I was stunned Shockingly Evil was ranked so high here. The ending was total fiction. Also, while I can't blame Zac Efron for his appearance, I can blame the director for including a scene that had "Bundy' remove his shirt to reveal a very muscular built. Shocking Evil plays into the myth that Bundy was extraordinarily handsome. No Man of God, on the other hand, was striped completely of any glamour. Luke Kirby was remarkable. He had Bundy's mannerisms down and oozed not just evil but sleaziness. He removed the veil to show a Bundy who was devoid of any empathy, just a psychopath who killed, as No Man of God bluntly stated, because he wanted to.
My father actually knew Arthur Lee Allen, they guy they kept trying to pin the Zodiac murders on. He still to this day not only defends Arthurs innocence but still gets sad when thinking about how the police out there harassed him until he couldn't take the stress anymore, had a heart attack and died.
Citizen x has to be the most insane movie I have ever seen, It has the inspector from v for vendetta, The guard from the green mile, barf,, and Donald Sutherland... It shocks me that more people haven't seen it, and it hasn't won awards....
Lilly Collins was fantastic in the Bundy flick. I’ve watched her in a couple of other roles to see if it was a fluke and suffice it to say it was not. She’s a terrific actress.
@@craigmmcgill it was scary. AW is one of my "favorite" serial killers... you know what I mean. So being very familiar with all the AW footage, yeah, she absolutely killed it. Pun intended!
I loved Changeling with Angelina Jolie. Although it focuses more on her character, towards the middle we get more of the Sk Gordon Stewart Northcott. Great movie no one seems to talk about z
Check out Dear Mr. Gacy. That film scared me. It’s about the reporter that went on Oprah who interviewed Gacy before he was to be executed. The reporter unalived himself a few years later.
All these movies are better than any crap we've been served these days either it's superheros movies, action movies shoot in front of green screen or movies with "messages" that nobody understands. These movies had great script and good acting performances.
@@jimbo9208 No, they are far from being good. Just because they are making much more movies these days, it doesn't mean quality became bettere, actually it's opposite. Percentage of good movies made today, it's significantly less than percentage of good movies made in past, today they are making 10x more movies, but we don't get 10x more great or good movies, we simply get far more bad movies, because today's technology allows us to shoot every crap. In past sometimes potentially very good projects wee rejected because there was no time to make them, because technology wasn't avaiable, I don't mean about special effects and CGI, I mean about time to make to movie, sets, locations, shooting, cameras, make up, locations, everything was much harder and slower to make. Today they can make movie in one month, in past that was simply impossible.
That version of Alcala is shockingly and confusingly unfaithful to the actual person. They didn't even make him look anything like Rodney, it was kinda weird.
Decent in my preferred order: Hunt for the BTK Killer Citizen X Zodiac Evilenko Des (mini series) Manhunt Search for the Night Stalker Peter (Yorkshire Ripper) The Grey Man 10 Rillington Place The Red Riding Trilogy (series) The Riverman Dahmer The Hillside Strangler The Town that Dreaded Sundown (2014) The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976) The rest are pretty crap: Bundy Gacy My Friend Dahmer Summer of Sam The Boston Stangler Henry portrait of a serial killer The Zodiac (2006) Ed Gein The Killer Inside Me The Zodiac killer (1971) Another son of Sam (1977) Monster Probs missed some
If the Boston strangler one peaks your interst listen to the last podcast on the left's mini series on it , the actor that portrays the killer in the film often appears on the show as well
I've always liked Rampage, William Friedkin's 1987 film with Alex McArthur, who's known for the Desperado TV movie series and as the boyfriend in Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" video. It also stars Micheal Biehn (The Terminator, Tombstone) as an assistant district attorney assigned to the case, which is based on real serial killer, Richard Chase. It's been lost in distribution Hell for years, but Kino Lorber was scheduled to release it this year...
Do you know how confusing it was to be at a friend’s place with a bunch of others late at night with a movie on, drifting in and out of sleeping, only to look up at the screen sleepily and see a dog talking to a man? That was my first experience of watching Summer of Sam when I was around 15 or 16.
No mention of Ed Gein or John Wayne Gacy? Those were the heavy hitters for the entertainment industry, but I can understand that their stories wouldn't translate well enough for the sake of "entertainment value" when their legacy inspired a lot of other film franchises.
after watching the zodiac stab that poor couple to death i actually cried, imagine being in that situation and only one makes it out alive, was actually gut wrenching to watch
TOTALLY agree with the number one pick! Zodiac is so real feeling. That stabbing scene with the guy and girl by the lake? It’s hard to watch cuz it feels too real. In my opinion anyways. ;-)
As for the Movie it was great movie on the Zodiac , and one Fincher's best movies to date .Like should watch too , cause some dude named Robert Downey Jr knocks out the ball park ,when comes the "Zodiac " movie .
‘The Vanishing’ (1988) and ‘Angst’ (1983) are two of the very best depictions of a serial killer. (I know the former was fiction but it felt very accurate.)
@@merilicious2410 he murdered two people. And he didn’t murder them for material benefit, for vengeance, as an act of political / religious terrorism etc. What would you call someone who does that?
David Tennant’s portrayal of Dennis Nilsen is so accurate, his photo is sometimes mistaken for Des’s. It’s wild. Citizen X is horrible. The accents are horrible. The descriptions are horrible. 1/10, do NOT recommend.
Citizen X is actually one of the best HBO movies. The accents, well it was pretty accurate for Americans and Europeans portraying Russians. And Donald Sutherland is great in the movie
Somehow when a guy is a serial killer who uses a gun, it pisses me off worse. When they are pervert serial killers you can accept that they are complete sickos, but somehow just randomly killing with a gun is like one of those school shooters who just want attention and want to feel important and powerful.
Best movie have seen about serial killers is The Deliberate Stranger. Ted Bundy was the most prolific serial killer of all time and this is not even close. Wanted to work for the Bureau and hunt serial killers because of Ted Bundy. He was a complete psychopath. He was highly intelligent and handsome and highly charismatic. He killed around 30-300 innocent women in 1974 and 1975. Ted Bundy was a terrifying monster.

I love Fincher. His music videos are better than most movies today. I brag that I am one of the two dozen people who saw this movie in the theater. Even though I knew the ending (I had seen a documentary about Zodiac/ALA a year or so earlier), I still thought it was his best work.
Zodiac was so well done I still get chills seeing clips from it.
Citizen X left the biggest impression on me. The frustration of the investigators with the government as they were downplaying the situation just to appear like they had everything under control
It got me frustrated the first time I saw it 😂. “There are no serial killers in the USSR”, dixit Joss Ackland (RIP).
@ “ an American phenomenon” they said . When I watched that mini series Chernobyl, the Soviet government in the show made me feel frustrated too n reminded me of Citizen x
@@SirPlayaLot82 Oh heck yes.
All Authoritarian country's leaders lie like that. It is necessary since their rule is built on 100% bullshit.
Was such a frustrating watch, every minute he went on not caught felt like eternity.
Monster is my personal favorite. Charlize Theron deserved her Oscar win.
The only thing that bothered me as being very inaccurate was Aileen's size. She was extremely petite. Charlize is 5'10". But I agree, she 100% deserved that Oscar.
Agreed
There's a scene in "Bombshell" she has with Margot Robbie. Need I say more?
@@katyburch6593and her girlfriend was quite heavy and also ginger.
The movie isn't very accurate at all, at least compared to the book.
Having said that, it's absolutely my favorite as well, love her performance.
One of my favorite performances ever.
@Killers-ICUfunny, ‘cause that one is based on a real story
Watch the original movie. It happened. Im from that town. @Killers-ICU
I just watched it last week!
I just watched that the other day! Yes, it was really good.
I'm so glad you put Boston Strangler on the list. I feel like no one talks about it. Also, Zodiac is a masterpiece.
Trying to pin the Boston Strangler crimes on some other guy was nonsense though
Zac efrons performance was so underrated and I honestly thought it was amazing that you don’t really see him kill as bundy but he still makes you feel so uneasy and uncomfortable
His was innacurate tho the most accurate one was the deliberate stranger with Mark Harmon
Jeffery Dahmer ate 5 guys before "5 Guys" became a restaurant franchise.
Misha Collins portrayal of Paul Barnardo in Carla has to be the best historically accurate portrayal of a serial killer
Misha hates that movie, though. He says they (actors) suffered under the director’s demands.
I remember watching that in the theatre here in Canada and people were leaving the theatre cuz they couldn't take it. I remember by the end the theatre was mostly empty
@@RedKresnik11 Yeah. Apparently, he didn't know that the movie was based upon an actual true story, for some reason!!!
Paul Bernardo isn't a serial killer
@@thirdeye42012 Yes he is. He has 3 murder victims.
There’s no asking for a Jeffrey Dahmer movie better than My Friend Dahmer.
I agree
Zac Efron did such an incredible job portraying Ted Bundy as the charming yet very manipulatively evil psychopath that Bundy was.
“Monster” always got me. It was sad also she they made the actress look just like her and seeing her real interviews I don’t see a difference in the two.
The Deliberate Stranger was haunting to with Mark Harmon.
Ten Rillington Place is a masterpiece. The cast was perfect.
5:55 Snowtown murders is a difficult watch, the director really did his best to put us thru hell
Citizen X was excellent. Absolutely chilling
Idk if this counts because he was a hitman but i was blown away from the iceman the richard kaklinski story
He's considered a serial killer for sure but that film isn't very historically accurate
Has the volume been raised on the background music? Because it was loud enough to be distracting. Please turn it down a notch or two (or don't have it at all).
How about Black Mass with Johnny Depp playing Whitey Bulger? He totally disappears into the role.
Such a good movie
I totally agree. Black Mass was a great movie and Depp did an amazing job playing Whitey Bulger. However, Bulger was a mob boss, not a serial killer.
@swlisman and this whole time I thought Mob Boss' killed people
No Man of God (2021) is the best movie about Bundy, it deserved more attention than Shockingly Evil in my opinion
Agreed.
100% agreed
@that_trans_dude942 👍🏻
Came here to say this. The performance of Luke Kirby as Ted was bone chilling and far superior than Zac Efron's.
I recently watched "Citizen X". It was perfectly cast & quite disturbing.
Good to see Snowtown get some recognition. It’s such a powerful, tough film.
Lilly Collins was fantastic in the Bundy flick. I’ve watched her in a couple of other roles to see if it was a fluke and suffice it to say it was not. She’s a terrific actress.
Zodiac is my all time favorite serial killer movie.
If only Mindhunter could be on this category, it would take the top spot undoubtedly
Charlize Theron nailed it as Aileen Wournis. Deserved Oscar. Brian Dennehy was utterly chilling in his portrayal of John Wayne Gacy.
Frozen Ground has to be my favorite
The TV movie ”To catch a killer” is also worth a mention. How the police got Gacy.
One of the best.
I had no idea Summer of Sam was co-written by Michael Imperioli!
Such a great Spike Lee Joint, everyone was tailor-made for their roles and the CBGB’s recreation was electrifying to watch.
Monster is probably the most visceral and emotional portrayal of a serial killer. Theron literally became Wournos!
She figuratively became her.
@@craigmmcgill You beat me to it -- literally.
@@craigmmcgill it was scary. AW is one of my "favorite" serial killers... you know what I mean. So being very familiar with all the AW footage, yeah, she absolutely killed it. Pun intended!
"Faced criticisms for seemingly glorifying Bundy"

I loved Changeling with Angelina Jolie. Although it focuses more on her character, towards the middle we get more of the Sk Gordon Stewart Northcott. Great movie no one seems to talk about z
100%!
An underrated gem.
Henry Lee Lucas's was full of shit
Zodiac movie had some crazy scenes that still haunt me ._.
I've only seen Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, The Snowtown Murders, Monster and Zodiac.
I definitely agree with Mojo's choice for #1! After watching Zodiac, it made me a fan of the "true crime" genre.
Blackbird was fantastic!
Efron's acting on ted bundy made me a new fan. Great acting 👏
Helter Skelter. Steve Railsback was horrifying as Manson..
He was also really good in his portrayal of Ed Gein in the movie by the same name that came out in 2000.
Manson never killed anyone. He was a cia asset and experiment. Not even on the same list as say bundy or toy box… Manson isn’t a serial killer period
'Henry' is an extremely disturbing movie.
The original Boston Strangler is superior to the recent one ,Tony Curtis was a revelation and should have received an Oscar nomination
Very messed up. Boston strangler, citizen x,1o rillington place, shockinglky evil, monster, Really messed up. Great video
The Deliberate Stranger was the best portrayal of Ted Bundy.
Interesting list
Zodiac had me a bit nervous after watching it in a cabin in Lake Tahoe in the middle of the night.
Putting citizen x at number 8 is some bullshit. Such a great movie with a great cast. I try to show it to everyone I know. When HBO MADE movies.
The best Boston strangler film is the one with Tony Curtis
Check out Dear Mr. Gacy. That film scared me. It’s about the reporter that went on Oprah who interviewed Gacy before he was to be executed. The reporter unalived himself a few years later.
To Catch a Killer starring Brian Donaghey as Gacey is a gripping made for TV film, it's absolutely chilling
I have The Manson Family (2004) on dvd. I don't know if its historically accurate but its an extremely brutal and trippy movie

All these movies are better than any crap we've been served these days either it's superheros movies, action movies shoot in front of green screen or movies with "messages" that nobody understands. These movies had great script and good acting performances.
isnt the Boston strangler from these days
@@jimbo9208 Of course it is, just like few others, but serial killer movies are not movies which go under industry just produce it and publish it.
I really don't understand the appeal of superhero films.
@@MarioCindric so that means movies these days are good
@@jimbo9208 No, they are far from being good.
Berkowitz admitted that he made up the whole 'demon dog' thing.
Funny that on a video about historical accuracy they opened with a talking dog
He didn't act alone either, he was part of a satanic cult
Also Zac Efrons portrayal of Ted Bundy gave me chills and I couldn't look away until the movie was over. Great movie
What about Rodney Alcala in "Woman of the Hour"?
That version of Alcala is shockingly and confusingly unfaithful to the actual person. They didn't even make him look anything like Rodney, it was kinda weird.

Citizen X
Zodiac
Evilenko

Manhunt Search for the Night Stalker
Peter (Yorkshire Ripper)
The Grey Man
10 Rillington Place
The Red Riding Trilogy (series)
The Riverman
Dahmer
The Hillside Strangler
The Town that Dreaded Sundown (2014)
The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976)
The rest are pretty crap:
Bundy
Gacy
My Friend Dahmer
Summer of Sam
The Boston Stangler
Henry portrait of a serial killer
The Zodiac (2006)
Ed Gein
The Killer Inside Me
The Zodiac killer (1971)
Another son of Sam (1977)
Monster
Probs missed some
If the Boston strangler one peaks your interst listen to the last podcast on the left's mini series on it , the actor that portrays the killer in the film often appears on the show as well
I’ve never been able to watch “Henry” all the way through and I’ll bet I’ve tried 4 or 5 times.
Zodiac, when he’s in the basement and he feels this fear, I felt it! I have to stop the movie… it is very very good!
Do you know how confusing it was to be at a friend’s place with a bunch of others late at night with a movie on, drifting in and out of sleeping, only to look up at the screen sleepily and see a dog talking to a man? That was my first experience of watching Summer of Sam when I was around 15 or 16.
The Deliberate Stranger was a far better Bundy film.

Somehow when a guy is a serial killer who uses a gun, it pisses me off worse. When they are pervert serial killers you can accept that they are complete sickos, but somehow just randomly killing with a gun is like one of those school shooters who just want attention and want to feel important and powerful.
Wasn't it Robert De Salvo?

Best movie have seen about serial killers is The Deliberate Stranger. Ted Bundy was the most prolific serial killer of all time and this is not even close. Wanted to work for the Bureau and hunt serial killers because of Ted Bundy. He was a complete psychopath.
He was highly intelligent and handsome and highly charismatic. He killed around 30-300 innocent women in 1974 and 1975.
Ted Bundy was a terrifying monster.
