8:19 was my favorite part. He was beginning to make a comment and the marimbas stopped him in his tracks and took him somewhere wonderful.

Man, im loving your vids! Yes those guys are judges. The field judges catch the small technical details that box judges aren't able to. And yes, judges get hit often . . .those are often the proudest moments of any performer.

I have run over a judge before at the Drum Corps Europe Finals. First time he saw the show... And yes, the judge is there the whole show on the field. You have a field judge and a booth judge. And together they make up the total score given to the brass (horns), drums, Front ensamble, Color Guard (dancers), and then you have a visual and ensble judge and points for the written book (music, theme, figures on the field and the marching). So yeah, quite complicated.

Wish someone would field this early 00s cavaliers style again. Cavaliers are something new and different now which is still great. Btw love the vibe of someone spitting out chew and drinking beer while watch drum corps lol. That blue devils show from the same year won. Watch that.

I remember that year, blue devils won because the green machine made there drill so hard that the music suffered a bit. Still though, I wish that modern shows would bring back some of the insane drill from the 00's.

Also, Paul, many of us who marched this show have watched and appreciate your experience. So happy that you enjoyed it. All these years later, it's a pleasure that you're entertained by all of the hard work.

Thank you for featuring this show. It is a great one! Today all corps are struggling financially with the costs. Covid and Inflation are the dream killers for many. Support this incredible and giving art form. Go to shows. Buy merch. Help sponsor kids that want to be rock stars on the field. Good reaction video.

Paul lives in Thailand but is from the Bay Area originally. He mentioned after his reaction on Tuesday to Cavaliers 2002 that he would love to get to a show when he is back in the states👍 Everyone should see a love DCI show before they leave this Earth😁

Speaking of Machine😏😏😏 Cavaliers 2006 show is called “Machine” 😂😂😂. Yes those were judges. Yes judges are both on field and up in the press box. Percussion judges, marching judges, general effect judges, music judges. And to answer your question performers are supposed to march to their points and NOT move around the judges on field. So if they or anyone else is in the way… well they get knocked out of the way.🤷🏾‍♂️

The Cavaliers 2006 “Machine” show should be reacted to on Friday as it is the last of my Domination of a Decade shows I sent to Paul for his reaction. They got pushed back one day due to his reaction to AMP Winter guard which was missed earlier in the month as he goes in order of premium requests So we should see the Cavaliers 2004 007 world championship show Reaction tomorrow followed by the Cavaliers 2006 machine world championship show reaction on Friday!

I've seen pictures of some judges that got bloodied up by colorguard equipment that smacked them in the face. I've also seen percussion judges run around wildly for their lives while surrounded by fast drill that is constantly making them shift their sprinting direction (Cadets 2008 ending is my favorite example of this). There has also been a judge that has helped a performer by picking up a dropped snare drum that fell off the carrier, and they run to the drummer that is still marching their place to give it back so they can finish their finals performance.
DCI changed the way judging works a few years ago, and they are regulated to the front of the field now, and they do not go very far away from the sidelines.

I honestly forgot how good the drill was in this show! Definitely one of my favorites as well. This was a show that would have won many other years, but 2003 had multiple outstanding shows including Blue Devils and Phantom Regiment.

You should definitely keep watching some drum corps though! Peep Cavaliers 2014 “immortal”. We were lil Victorian era vampires and stole the souls and hearts out of the brass members. 🫣🧛‍♂️

If I recall correctly the music/drill was inspired by a Washing Machine.

I marched cavaliers color guard in 2014 and I absolutely smacked the hell out of a judge with my flag at the southwestern regional in San Antonio. I mean my ass is running, I yelled “I’m coming your way” tk the judge and he ain’t listen so imma hit my dot regardless. Lolol.

I remember in Highschool one of our trombone's clotheslined a judge with his slide XD

They should've gotten the gold that year...oh well. One of the best shows in DCI history.

Judges can get in the way. There's a universal "BAIL!" to alert them to move, because it is THEIR honus to move, not the performer.
In 2002, a judge was hit in the head with a tossed saber and had to be carried off the field.
And yes, they are annoying. But necessary. :-)

Oh man… such a cool show. But dang, I forgot how bad the camera work was for this. Missed so many big visual moments for weird shots of nothing.

What can I say Paul, you nailed this reaction As you do with most of your reactions but you caught on to some items about the design of the show that really impressed me since you are still relatively a beginner in your admiration of DCI 😁 I am so glad you finally brought up the judges on the field. I always like to wait when someone is not familiar with drum corps shows to see how long it takes them to realize there are judges and khakis and green shirts walking and running in and out of the shows on the field👍😁 it shows that you are noticing more intricate items on the field as those judges are meant to blend in and I find it hysterical that you asked if they ever get in the way because I can tell you that it happens all of the time!!! Not as much as you would think but I had a very easy way of dealing with it if I saw a possible collision between myself and the judge or my equipment and a judge and that was me screaming MOOOOOVE!!!! 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️ it worked every time for me. You made a comment which is the one that really impressed me about the different color green on the front and back of the color guards uniforms and how visually pleasing it was and of course they were designed that way to evoke the exact reaction that you had to them so bravo sir👍 as you mentioned several times during the show this is my favorite cavalier show of all time and now you see why as it was just for its time well actually even in today’s terms some of the most demanding drill music and guard work ever. The craziest thing about 2003 is that while spin cycle is in my opinion the best, It is the only one of the six cavalier shows that you are in the middle of reacting to that placed second Well the three others you’ve watched and then tomorrow’s 2004 and Fridays 2006 we’re all world champion shows! I have my own opinions as to why this happened has The Cavaliers had been undefeated for a little over two years and judging in the world of DCI and WGI can be considered political, I believe the judges did not want to give The Cavaliers a four peat which would’ve ended up being a five peat since they won 2004 but that’s just my opinion. You’re excitement while you watch and react to these shows How long with your constant recognition of the demand and discipline in love for the activity really resonates with those of us who either did march or are marching currently so thank you again and we will continue our journey tomorrow😁👍

      @SmolFenFen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah judging is political, but you remember that year their musicality suffered because of the demanding drill. Blue Devils had a better balanced show in my opinion. Still though, Spin Cycle was insane.

How annoying is it to avoid judges you ask? Extremely. Lol. I think there's less of that happening now though than there was 20 yrs ago. They keep a distance now for safety reasons.
