I think Nene was very aggressive, and Annie was not posturing before Shabani ran out. Annie is fortunate to have Kiyomasa and Shabani because Ai and Nene do not recognize her as a relative but part of the group. Annie has developed remarkably well considering her condition. Annie tries harder to get Nene's attention than Shabani. She is more skittish around Shabani than Kiyomasa is.

It always strikes me as odd that when gorillas want to show another gorilla they are agitated, they will run close to them so they notice, make themselves look bigger, and then look in a different direction like they are ignoring them, but its obvious they are not since they are right up to them.
I feel sad for Annie. It is obvious she craves attention and playtime with Nene and tries many ways to get close to her. starting at 2:06, watch how Annie looks at Nene. As if she is saying "please show me affection...why don't you like me?" then Annie imitates Nene eating as she looks sweetly at her. Annie sees the affection Nene gives to Kiyomasa and I think she would love a little affection from Nene. Nene has always been cold to Annie and has no patience with her. She never seemed to like or Accept Annie and I'm sure Annie doesn't understand why.She is still young and any kid will try anything for attention, even negative. And when Nene shows aggression, why wouldn't Annie show the same behavior to her? Glad daddy protects Annie.
Yes it was an interesting video of their interactions. I thought Nene was pretty tolerant really. Annie was being rather disrespectful at times...I do though feel for Annie at the same time
Hi gorillaphile! I understand what you are saying. Nene was NEVER kind to Annie and attacked her as a baby when Kiyomasa took her baby blanket and she tried to get it back Nene charged and attacked Annie when she 1st started to interact with the troop from being hand reared. Shabani protected Annie but she was so terrified she didn't go out of her little room for i think 3 weeks or months. If anything, it was Kiyomasa's fault and Annie was so small and just pulled on the blanket after Kiyomasa took it from her. There is a heartbreaking video of this. Nene never saw Annie as her grand daughter and Al never saw her as a daughter. But Al plays and can be loving. Nene never was kind to Annie and even when Annie tried to get close and loving, Nene would walk away and was very nasty and cold. After a while I'm sure Annie had a lot of confusion and anger towards Nene. I think that she sees the love and protection and love Nene gives Kiyomasa and would love that too or at least some play and affection. Nene wants nothing to do with Annie at all and tolerates her but never shows kindness. Nene is a great mommy to Kiyomasa, but that is it. My heart goes to Annie because I'm sure at times i would lash out at a adult who i tried to get close to that shows no love for me. She is still a little girl and learning. Just sad Kiyomasa had so much love and Annie never will have that. BUT, Kiyo and daddy adore and protect her. She has a strong spirit but you can see she yearns for Nene's love and acceptance. Watch how she looks at Nene in this video. Remember that same look from Moja sitting with Kamba as Tatu walked over and she had that head slant sweet look at Kamba begging for attention ... Tatu won and Moja threw that toy horse at Kamba and smacked her back when Tatu jumped on Kambas back leaving Moja just sitting there... Remember that one? I always enjoy reading your comments Mary :-) Yes I do remember dear Kam with Moja and how much Moja could be a little stinker to her when she wasn't the centre of attention heh.. Kam was always so patient...hope she keeps getting better after her operation a few days ago.
gorillaphile, thank you dear friend. I know Im a bit emotional and seem to feel badly about the little ones and their feelings. But they remind me of small kids. They are so much like us and with Annie, as any hand-reared Gorilla baby, I just feel so badly for them knowing that the mothers are so vital for them in protection, teaching, affections, etc., and Gorillas are a lot smarter then many give them credit. Im sure little Annie has been confused to why she doesn't have a mommy to protect and dote on her like little Kiyomasa does and I'm sure that hurts her little heart. As with Moja "the stinker" LOL! She is proof of jealousy and hurt feelings. She is just more expressive then other Gorilla kids. But you can see they have our same emotions of embarrassment, jealousy, rejection, sadness and love. They just don't have the voice to communicate what they are feeling, but watching their expressions and body language, it becomes easy to understand what they feel certain times. :-) Thank you again my sweet friend. I still enjoy watching the older videos you have of Prague family. I miss Tatu so much. He was a special little guy and through him is where my love of Gorillas began. I know he is in Heaven playing with other "fur babies" who left us too soon. Making the Angels who look after the babies laugh and adore him as we did here. Nuru reminds me of Tatu. He has that same gentle soul and affectionate spirit, especially with the younger ones (Ajabu) where Moja and Kiburi are more spunky and stinkers! LOL! Nice chatting with you! Maybe Annie wants the same attention that Kiyomasa gets from Nene. Otherwise why isn't she bothering her own Mum. Also read somewhere that male Gorillas mate with their own daughters in the wild. Maybe Nene and Ai see Annie as a threat.

This is 2023 now, but I dont care what anyone says, Nene is a sweet gorilla. Set in her ways a bit, but still sweet.

ネネさんは キヨマサを母親として守ってあげるという気持ちが強く働いているので アニーは何か自分がいつも警戒されている、除外されているような気持ちになったりして、うまくネネさんに甘えたり、心を開いたりできないのかもですね。
アイちゃんが出産したとき ネネさんや シャバーニは立ち会っていたのかわかりませんが、もしも立ち会っていたら自分の孫、子供という認識はあるでしょうね！。

おっしゃっている通りだと思います。自分に注意を向けてほしいアニーのとキヨマサしか眼中になかったネネでしたが、アニーが近付くと挨拶の様な行動を返すぐらいにはなりました。アニーの精神の強さは凄いです。
群れは、分けていなかったので立ち会っていたと思います。アイもアニーを抱っこはしていましたが、授乳が上手くいかず....。
