Universities should not be bound to classes DeSantis thinks are ok. I assume DeSantis doesn't have a teaching degree or a doctorate. He needs to stay out of this and let the experts do their thing.

You know it's possible to have courses that explore parts of history a little deeper. Sure African American history Is American history but that does not mean they shouldn't have a course for students that want to learn more about the struggles of African Americans during certain periods of American history.

The students have standing to sue, because DeSantis's ban actively harms their chance to get into their top choice colleges. Lacking AP African American Studies won't make or break an application, of course, but it puts Florida HS seniors at a disadvantage compared with students from other states who do have a strong lineup of AP courses on their transcripts.

We teach Black history in Florida. This course was sneaking in "queer" Black history whatever that is.
