Okay, now I know why Kian said 'The Rose' was the very sad point of their career. On a TV show, I think that's a Dutch TV show, the lads said that they had to compete with some other big names (U2, The Beatles, Oasis, George Michael) when releasing The Rose. And it turned out that The Rose reached #1 in UK. The medias criticized a lot to Westlife , that how could Westlife beat those other names..said it's impossible bla bla bla. I myself also surprised, because I thought The Love Album just a cover album, so it's impossible for them to be #1 again plus when they named their competitors.. surprised.
It wasn't just criticized. Westlife and their Album were practically demoralized. For a week, newspaper "The Sun" published constant slanders to encourage its readers to buy the 'Oasis' album instead of 'the love album', and get westlife off the top of the charts, because they think the boys did not deserve it. It was a pretty bad time for the band but loius and simon didn't seem to care so much about it because they know it could actually help them promote the album at an even wider audience hence they got their 14th number 1, they got 1 week of free promotions. Lol. The guys didn't really like the single and the album itself but it sold at a very staggering amount, even outselling their 'Face to face' album which contains their biggest single of all time 'You raise me up."
They are not westlife hits. They are those songs some fans can love but could never reach number 1 on a general scale. I love Obvious so much but I know it couldn't compete with most of the number 1s.
Why do they said The Rose is a sad part of their career? I truly loved The Rose. It is in my top 5 classic Westlife. It's those songs that drew young and old audience/ fans .
