It's weird thinking that not only was this originally a Miku song, but that the Gakupo version is the more popular version. (Listening to them side by side, I can see why the Gakupo one is more popular though... the style of the song fits his voice better.)

mardalfossen The vocals were not originally Gakupo. It was the PV. Miku's ver has a MMD PV, and it was supposed to be Gakupo model instead of Miku but the vocals were still her, but for some reason Gakupo model had some problems and they still Miku.
Neo Nyo I honestly think that it's because it matches his voice a bit better that Miku's.

So basically Gakupo is a demon who loves this girl and wants to marry her but the sister finds out and gambles with him, if she wins, she gets her sister back, if he wins, he takes them both. The sister loses and the demon takes them both to his world, he begins to do something with them (I dunno) but they attack him and run away.

I think it's that, but without the sister and attacking in the equation. He fell in love with a girl, wanted her, but he's a weirdo demon so he gambled with her (Demon's gotta eat too). If he won, he got her heart. She lost, of course, but he felt so bad for taking her heart (it made her an emotionless husk) that he gave it back which resulted in him starving to death

I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard a while ago that the intended singer of Joker was Gakupo, but the producer was unable to get him to work right so they had to use Miku instead.

I contemplated a lot about the meaning behind the song, and ran to a few possibilities. I'll comment on what I think is the song is about. I assume the song is about a sociopath who lives in his own world and treats the girl he lures with his charm as " cards" in a "game" which is the situation. The females he is probably kidnapping are depressed females who are attracted to his compassion and sympathy. I'll be using a few lyrics as why I think this is the most likely meaning. " Shall we begin? It's showtime" This is his way of mentioning how he charms the females. " How does a game sound ?" He assumes as a girl gets closer to him, they are giving him a consent." Please allow me some of your time" Meaning to let him into your world.
" Compassion is useless affection, you want a favor from me, penalties are inevitable" He acts as sympathetic and compassionate toward them, mentioning how compassion is a simple way of getting the " cards" The " favor" here is probably a metaphor on how the females want him to make them better . The " penalty" from my assumption is a metaphor of how it's his way of punishing them for their " performance " in his game." Pleasant circumstances have risen" The circumstance is his way of mentioning that there is a " card" he can obtain.I'm not exactly sure about his " game" but I assume he was betrayed by his past lover who he considers played him like a " card" to gain an affection of a another male. So, heartbroken he now considers any female who wants his attention as to people who want to use him so before they use him, he charms them and uses them as " cards" I assume after collecting a " suit" of cards. Which means women he collects and assigns them to spades, diamonds, clubs.. etc he will make them compete over the others females and the girl who wins will be allowed to join him ( the other women would be murdered upon losing the " game" )and they would continue to hunt down women and make the whole process repeat again, the girl who is the victor of one of his " games " would probably be murdered after the new " victor" , the new female would replace the old one and the whole process would probably continue.So how does it sound?

For those commenting, my translation is accurate. I tried to do it free but still faithful to the original Japanese. Rena's translation is interesting, but built more on rhymes than anything else. Not actual literal meaning.
