    I like this song and I agree with the message. It really upsets me when people forget that these celebrities or idols are still people at the end of the day and deserve privacy and happiness. Especially when people claim to be fans but they're stalking them and trying to break into their rooms and following in cars so close they cause accidents. People like that make me nervous as a fan to go up and say hi to one of my favorite artists, should I be lucky enough to run into one, because I want to give them space. I wouldn't want them to be annoyed and think i'm one of "those" fans. Anyways, give artists their personal safe space please. They deserve it.

    • @raneetdhillon4219
      @raneetdhillon4219 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I totally agree because at the end of the day, if idols work so hard for their fans and they cant even receive something as simple privacy, it can be overwhelming and disappointing. yes fans might get excited but you should want the best for your faves, especially since mental and physical health comes first. everyone deserves to be respected. its very sad to see that invasion of privacy still happens, Even after songs such as idol, siren and bbibbi came out. these songs might even referencing to some nosy fans

I'm not an IU fan or anything but I do appreciate how she is always fearless with her music and she doesn't let the public dictate to her what she should or shouldn't do even though she's been in the industry since she was a kid. Singers (Gasu) on the other hand focus solely on vocals, which tends to give them very very high vocal skills plus they often have unique vocal quality, they also often write their own music (which makes her a step above and also often called artist in korea) while Idols tends to get their music produced. They are both on the same industry but they operate on different principles. You'll often see Idols saying they want to improve their vocal skills and be called a Gasu in the future.

    "It's true that many of the lyrics are written based on my personal experiences, but I didn't set out targetting my haters. The lyrics were written with a much broader scope in mind. The lyrics are not just about myself. In our daily lives, there are momemts when we worry that the other party is crossing a line even though they say it was done in goodwill. So I wanted to write about clearly drawing the line and pointing out those moments."
    - IU

  • @riclclhi
    @riclclhi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4615

    Interesting. I thought the whole line thing could also be a message to fans, who sometimes invade her personal space. And the line "we don't owe anything" might be her speaking as an idol. Idols are considered almost as "public property" and not seen as human beings. She could be saying, "Back off, we don't owe anything to you."

    • @MJkingofmusiclover
      @MJkingofmusiclover 6 ปีที่แล้ว +93

      I don’t think it was a message to fans. Especially because IU said it herself that this song was a present for her fans to celebrate her 10 years of debut. I don’t think she would’ve tried to “diss” her fans when she’s also doing all she can to thank them and also previously told us, this song was like a gift.

      It always amazes me when celebrities complain about fans invading their personal space. You can't have it both ways: be famous and have people leave you alone. It doesn't work that way. IU and every other celebrity CHOSE to become a public figure. If she's tired of it, she can always go back to being poor and irrelevant. I'm sure she said to herself during all of those auditions that she would do anything to become famous. Now that she's a top star, she doesn't like the limelight? Huh? No one forced her to do anything.

      cl There’s a bottom line even if she’s a celebrity. You get to see her on broadcast but you do not get to dictate her personal life, give her advice, send death threats, etc. People do not seem to understand this thing that should be common sense.

    I especially like the line “she’s hanging out with ‘that person’ these days” and “she’s a problem too.” Although you didn’t mention it, i think this is a direct reference to her comeback w/ the song 23 where she was criticized a lot by k-netz as someone who romanticized the lolita concept and how weird that comeback and album was. Which they all related to the fact that IU was hanging out with f(x)’s ex-member Sulli, an idol that the public also considered, at that time, problematic and someone who’s been acting weird and inappropriate because of her instagram posts. Great video explaining the true meaning to these songs, keep it up!

    Seems like half the videos you explain are about how hard it is to be famous. I'm curious as to whether that's a new trend in kpop and whether it's selection bias (that's what you're choosing to explain). Anyway, terrific content as usual.

      Seems like a bit of a trend. I doubt he wants to explain a cutesy love song or meaningless party song. But IU, BTS, Sunmi, etc. are top artists and a lot of these songs are huge hits.

    • @amyrhoda
      @amyrhoda 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@MegaTenser Yeah, that's what I was thinking, that the more lyrically interesting songs seem to trend towards this theme and also rebellion (millenials vs boomers).

    • @zulal9926

      Honestly it might be trending but I think it should be more than just trending. Bc if idols keep their mouth shut and companies doesn't change their approach they by 2025 idols will be judged for breathing. I get y its trending, they are kinda fed up and since now kpop is more open to western society as well idols are more encouraged to to be themselves and not to care abt judgements.

Every time when the music video was on, I have to decrease the volume . And when it was your scene, I have to turn the sound up a bit... Hope your next video could fix this problem. Thanks again. I love the way team IU puts it. Lyric "If you cross this line its trespassing"! I insert 'Unless' ... ? Which has the effect of leaving the door open (Song 'Fall on me' The nutcracker) under certain circumstances that are, should we say, favourable. Thence the realm of signs which are not always easy to decipher, nor meant to be in some scenarios also being multifaceted, in combinations thereof, suggesting 'The life not examined is not worth living'. Socrates.
    Thank you very much for the work of translation and the delightful interpretations which underlines the multifaceted nature of symbolism or signs as you like it, running intertwined or concurrent, as social perspectives do when viewed as a whole heightening contrasts and shining. Keep up the good work, subscribed and thank you again. ✨

    Best description I have seen for her song and it's so right. I love her so much because she speaks the truth that many people are scared to in the industry, mostly from backlash (i.e.what happened to Hyuna and EDawn recently, and currently the comments on Twice's dating ban lift) that can arise from being human in a spotlight.
