Hecate Enthroned - Slaughter of innocence. Love me some Old Man’s Child Pagans Prosperity as well but they are not necessarily bonafide into a category imho. You know what was a great album - perhaps the one and only “cosmic metal” coined band? Nexus Polaris by Kovenant (Covenant)
@@wastedthoughts I thought I was the only one in the world who sees 'Virus West' as a masterful album. It may be the best composed black metal album ever. Everything in that album makes sense, does not drag, and never gets boring.
It's refreshing to see a "favorite BM albums" video that is not the same norwegian 90s classics over and over again, nor just the popular and trendy stuff, and actually showcases the richness and variety of the genre. By the way looking by your taste I think that you may like a black metal band from my home country Chile. They're called Sol Sistere, and their self titled album from 2021 really gets to experiment with progressive, emotional and post-bm stuff while remaining black metal. I saw them opening for HFTS when they played here and they're awesome :)))
Yeah I almost never even listen to those albums anymore tbh. I had that phase when I was like 14 and I’m not gonna lie there is some legendary stuff from that scene, but there’s so much more to the genre. I’ll check them out. I got so many recommendations at this point I have to start writing a list lol

Yeah, I love it too. I think blending some beauty into ugly music can be sooo amazing. I think some newer Emperor songs have that nailed down with the added clean vocals. I'll have to check on CoB tho, I heard the band name so many times, but never heard any of their material.
Good call out! Check out Windir and Journey to the end - I think it’s called? Ephemeral Metal experience from straight metal to this synth element that envelops you.

I'm glad you included Abigor in your list. Out of all the classics, Abigor is the most underrated. They should be just as popular as Burzum, Emperor, and etc. I find 'Opus IV' to be the Abigor album I constantly come back to, but 'Nachthymnen' is a close second.
They’re great. I think they probably don’t have a lot of listeners because they weren’t in the Norwegian scene where all of this blew up. I haven’t really dug too deep into their catalogue yeat, because I haven’t known them for that long, but I’ll check out Opus IV. So far I’ve only heard Nachthymnen and Orkblut, but from those, Nachthymnen is the superior one.
Haha yess, thanks bro! I had a phase when I listened to a lot of dsbm. Still do sometimes, but not as often. Some albums, like Death, Pierce Me really just take you off life in a couple of minutes

@@VikingStrengthBB I don't know if you'll care or not, but I think 'Meloncholie 2' by Coldworld is the best DSBM album. If you have not listened to that album already, I highly suggest it. It is much more melancholic than depressive, but most still consider it DSBM. Unfortunately, every full album upload on TH-cam gets copyright striked, but you can still find the individual songs on TH-cam, and Spotify has the full album, I believe.

Interesting recommendation! Im more into death metal (and blackned death) but im gonna check some of this recommendation (at least the ones i didnt know about it)
What bands are you into? I want to get a bit more into death metal, cause I just realized I barely listen to it and barely know shit about it, so I'd be happy to hear some recommendations.
@@VikingStrengthBB WOW first time i get to recommend a "new guy" to death metal. I d prefer to gives you some blackned death since you come from black but im gonna give you also some old school death metal that people lovs to recommend. First my favourite BEHEMOTH. They started as black metal to became slowly blackned death metal. Favourite Album "the Apostasy" and "The satanisti" which is their best. Then MORBID ANGEL. Now 99% of the fan they ll you that Altar of madness is their best but to me is more "death-thrash" so i wanna give you the more death metal ones and im gonna recommend the Album "Covenant" (best songs in it are Rapture and God of emptiness) and "Domination". The something from the swedish current of death metal (yes as you realized by now death metal has alot of subgenres in it) DISMEMBER. They dont have a bad album but my favourite are "Massive Killing Capacity" and "Indecent and Obscene"(cause the last song here is my favourite, its called "Dreaming in Red). Back in America "Deicide" (only the first album). Dying Fetus with Destroy the opposition (the opening track is probably my favourite its called Praise the lord). For "slower" death metal i d say ASPHYNX's album "Last one on earth" (titletrack being again of my favourite of all time) or Obituary "Slowly we rot"
Sooo I'm not "new" to death metal, I've been listening to it for like 5-6 years at this point, but not a lot of it. I mostly now "mainstream" stuff. I know Morbid Angel, really love 'em. I've heard a couple of songs from Behemoth, but never a full album, so I'll def check that out. I gotta check out Dismember as well. I love Deicide. I've listened to the Dying Fetus album you were recommending today and I like it a lot. It reminds me of Suffocation. I also never heard of Asphynx, so I'll check them out. I probably only know like Death, Morbid Angel, Entombed, Possessed, Deicide, Suffocation, Obituary, Amon Amarth, Cryptopsy, Vital Remains, Belakor, Blood Red Throne and Angist.
@@VikingStrengthBB You should try Portal. They may sound really messy and incomprehensible at first, but they are the best Death Metal band ever. I recommend Portal because they are sometimes regarded as "Death Metal for Black Metal fans" considering that they prioritize the atmosphere before a "killer riff". Like I said, they are heavily atmospheric (specifically a Lovecraftian soundscape) and I think 'Outre' is the best death metal album of all time. I also suggest The Chasm, Mexican death metal at its finest. Any album by The Chasm is a good place to start.
I’ve heard Ion from Portal and really liked it. I like that sort of messy, chaotic vibe. I haven’t heard anything else from them though. But I’ve heard that Ion is probably their most death metal album. I’ll check out the other stuff as well.
Thanks man! Yeah black metal is definitely not easy to get into. Give a listen to Pillorian - Obsidian Arc. That was the first bm album I really got into, partly probably because it's pretty different from all of the other stuff. But I won't overshare on that, cause I'm planning on talking about that album in an upcoming video...
So glad you had HFTS in there most black metal fans refuse to accept bands like this as Black Metal. Also one of my favourite albums and really underrated is MIDVINTER 'At the sight of the apocalypse dragon'.
Yeah I mean what else would it be? I don’t understand people who say something isn’t metal or isn’t black metal just because they don’t like it. And Midvinter is absolutely amazing. I discovered that album and that band only recently, after making this video and I’ve been bingeing it. It’s such an amazing album.
Honestly I have to listen to it again, because I don't really remember much of it. I've heard it a couple of times, I remember that it had some viking metal-ish elements that I really liked, but I didn't listen to it many times, no idea why.

I just can't stand Silencer after listening to 'Dictius Te Necare' by Bethlehem. It is in the same vein of DSBM as 'Death-Pierce me", but I think 'Dictius Te Necare' is better in every way. That is just my opinion though.
It is very similar, Silencer definitely takes a lot of influence from Bethlehem, but I respectfulky disagree. I find Death, Pierce Me superior in every way. But Dictius Te Necare is also a really good album honestly. I think it also has to do eith the fact that I have a very personal relationship with Silencer, I listened to them at a very weird time of my life, whereas when I listened to Bethlehem, there’s was nothing special happening.
@@VikingStrengthBB I guess we all have sentimental albums that we cherish more than other albums. I still think Agalloch is the best band ever even though I’ve listened to maybe 1000 albums since discovering them back in 2019.
