Thank you. I appreciate the realness but also the hope in Christ as we carry our individual cross. With God, all things we must endure are enduring. Without him, we'll still need to carry, deal with things to endure so I'm so Glad we have Christ who knows how to help us carry our cross and my ending is only the begining of something greater and better
Dear Jon, You're messages and your spoken word really touch me every time I watch them. They come at the exact time I need them. Thank you so much for everything. I'm so grateful to God for showing me your channel. I hope God uses you even more mightily for His glory. God bless. Love, Sarah.
To deny myself and take up my cross is what we need to do to become a Disciple of Jesus. To deny myself means to realize that my ways are wicked/sinful/unrighteous, etc. To carry my cross means to put those things to death, not my physical life. This is the first part of repentance. The other part is to replace those sinful acts with righteous acts/obedience to God's teachings/commands (O.T. and N.T.). To be the changed person God wants for us, to be imitators of Him who is Holy. This is what is pleasing to Him.
Jon, thank you for this amazing sermon. You prayed the Holy Spirit would speak through you and that's exactly what happened. That verse is so often misunderstood (even by myself), by misunderstanding it to be our "earthly burdens" that we pick up and "bear" as "our cross". But the truth is, it is how we deny ourselves, are willing to pick up the same cross Jesus picked up, and take on a new heart because of Him. This was my favorite sermon of yours! Thank you for posting your sermons on here, I listen to them when I run, so I'm looking forward to more!
The opposition of Jesus ended in eternal reconciliation with God; the shame of Jesus ended in eternal honour; the suffering of Jesus ended in eternal peace; the death of Jesus ended in eternal life.
You’re message really helped me understand that verse in such a deeper way. I have grown up hearing that and not giving it much thought but that made me think about it in a way I never have before. Thank you for all the inspiration you bring into the world and have given to me. You are awesome thank you for all that you do!
You have a fine message with this young man. Thank you for posting, may the Lord make your influence grow daily. That said, "You never spoke of what the "Cross to be taken up" is for the everyday preacher or "professional minister" if you will." The list you spoke from about what Jesus suffered, and what "we" will suffer for being His follower is spot on. Every syllable you spoke about them is pure truth. But that is NOT our cross to take up. Jesus used this compare and contrast to indicate something else. What was the cross of Jesus? (His ministry) The first purpose of His ministry was to be a sacrifice for sinners. (Only He could) The second purpose of His ministry was to be "...that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.(Rom.8:29)…Sir, you're teaching "discipleship" to young people, I believe..."THAT IS THE Ministry of "Everyone." His was to teach, be an example for us, and ultimately take away the wall (Veil) of separation between God and man. Our "Cross to take up" is whatever our gift and calling is, as listed in Eph. 4:11-13...All of what (almost everyone) sees is the things that we will face in the process of "ministering according to whatever spiritual gift Cross) the Lord has for us. May God bless you young Brother in the Lord.
Thank you for this message... I had been waiting for a good explanation for this verse Luke 9:23.. After reading this verse few days before, I had a doubt what is actually the cross is meant for in our life?? I wasn't clear about that... Soon after a week you have uploaded this sermon which was really helpful.. I'm thankful to God and to you... It was really a touching message...!!
I've heard people talk about a problem they have and say it's a cross they have to bear, but is this what Jesus meant? A: No, this isn’t what He meant-although it’s not necessarily wrong to refer to some problem we are having as a “cross” we must bear. In Jesus’ day, a cross was a symbol of suffering, and we all have trials and afflictions that may be very hard for us to bear-even with God’s help. But Jesus meant something far deeper than this when He told His disciples to carry their cross. He said to them, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). In Jesus’ day, a cross wasn’t just a symbol of pain and suffering; it was mainly a symbol of death. What Jesus was telling them is that they needed to put to death their own plans and desires, and then turn their lives over to Him and do His will every day. You see, Jesus doesn’t simply call us to believe that He existed, or even to believe that He can save us. He calls on us to commit our whole lives to Him-to trust Him alone for our salvation, and then to follow Him as His disciples. He said, “Anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:27). Is Christ the master of your life? Have you put to death your own plans and committed yourself to His will for your life? Don’t be satisfied with anything less, for there is no greater joy in life than following Christ every day.
To deny yourself is to deny your earthly and fleshly desires and goals and live how HE lives. Everyone on here must understand that this is not at all what "take up they cross means". The word "cross" is a mistranslation and a deceptive one at that. Jesus had not even been crucified so why would HE have said that. The word is really "staff" which was a very important part of their lives. They had it everywhere they went. It would be like us going somewhere without our car. Or walking or running long distances without your shoes. Jesus ministry caused for HIM to walk all over, and long distances. If you look at the history of the people in the Bible from Genesis on up, you will see they always spoke of their staffs. But other than all that, the Bible dictionary and Strong's tells us that the word cross, is staff. No one should have crosses in their homes or on their persons or pictures of them. They are pagan in origin, and idolatry. Y'all need to stop following all these false prophets.
In Nomine Dei Nostri Satanas, Luciferi Excelsi. In the Name of Satan, Ruler of the Earth, True God, Almighty and Ineffable, Who hast created man to reflect in Thine own image and likeness, I invite the Forces of Darkness to bestow their infernal power upon me. Open the Gates of Hell to come forth to greet me as your Brother/Sister and friend. Deliver me O Mighty Satan from all past error and delusion, fill me with truth, wisdom and understanding, keep me strong in my faith and service, that I may abide always in Thee with Praise, Honor and Glory be given Thee forever and ever.
