I remember Robbie Vincent Playing this on his Sunday night R1 show in the mid-eighties. Took me by surprise as it was new to me then. Still sound good after all those years... Such a shame he is no longer with us. RIP.
love Terry Callier... haven't discovered enough of his music yet... but what I have discovered completely seizes my soul....and this song? God DAMN! Just, wow......
African violet.... About the struggle of African Americans through the lens of a typical struggling woman searching for redemption Terry Orlando Collier was more than an artist for me his music pushed the boundaries of jazz folk blues and soul music. Sadly he was almost always under the radar throughout his career his music was ethereal and spiritual yet still rooted in the human existence and our capacity to feel Rest In Peace Terrence you're up there with every great soul jazz folk artist there was and there ever will be. A voice that was deep soothing emotive and reassuring when people tell me my voice is awful I look at you and I say Terry had a deep baritone voice just like mine and his music transcended beauty. Sleep my dear friend
Memories:top DJ HC played this regularly on The Brotherhood show, years ago on Sunset Radio, it made me sit up, wide awake at 3am ... Once heard, never forgotten. Terry Callier's voice, the lyrics, awesome.
